Root Nandroid question

Hey guys i just want to ask so i can have a better understanding. Ive made numerous nands and i always do them right after flashing a fresh rom. Question is, if i was to nand right before i flashed a new rom would the nandroid retain all of my apps and settings and etc? or does it just save the rom at that point in time, excluding apps and such.

The nand retains everything. It is a snapshot of your phone at the time you make the backup - apps, settings, everything. When you restore a nand and boot back up, it will be set up exactly as you left it. I always keep a nand or two of my current ROM (in case an update breaks something) and the latest stock rooted ROM (handy for updating PRL, or whenever you need bone stock Sense to test something). And a nand or two on my laptop in case my sd card ever gets corrupted.

OMG all this time i thought that it didnt save apps and such. I have a bunch of nands with basically just the rom. lol Thanks for the info guys

Lol if thats all it contained you could just reflash the ROM instead of restoring a nandroid :p

Keep in mind that a nandroid will only keep a moment in time. As time goes on updates happen and the apps are old in the nandroid. I and some others only keep about 3 nandroids on the phone at any one time. anything more than that start's getting outdated. (app wise) I found that having a bunch of apps means that Some get updated very often I only keep 3 on computer and only as a backup incase the sdcard becomes corrupt. I keep a good working one (Tried and tested) in the dropbox. I find that just as important than having a good Nandroid is having a good ROM this gives me the ability to have my phone back up and running in no time so atleast I can have the basic functions of my phone working until I'm able to get back home and either restore a nandroid or TB Restore my apps / data

good point argedion. i only keep two on my phone. one nandroid backup of the rom i really like and the other is the current one that i just flashed. i have my very first stock nandroid backup kept on my pc and in the cloud(dropbox) as well. i also have a rom .zip on my card as well for the same reason you do.

hmmm that gives me an idea. i think i will added a best practice to flashing to the guide or something like that.

I always keep 3 nands on my sd card. Then 1 or 2 of my favorite nands on my laptop. Then my stock nandroid I'm my dropbox. I'm prepared with nandroid backups everywhere just in case any device fails. I've learned the hard way with my OG Evo.

Another tip, it is good to have a rom you know works for you, ready to flash on the card too.

Saved my bacon a time or two!

Edit: ah heck, you guys already mentioned that... well, guess we all learned at the same place, huh? :)

Brother we went to the same school ;)

Wish we had some of the others here like Andygu, Frenchy, Mizzou, and Azakabam learned a lot from them and their post.

Dustwun, Ocean, Rxpert, and Granite1 I'm still learning from. It's good to have those familiar faces in here. I guess I should add Earlymon as he is also a wealth of information that I am learning from. All these post would be meaningless with out you guys the "Core" of the forum

How can I make a Nand and store it on my laptop? I'm guessing simply drag and drop. But it can't be that simple. Can it?
