yes you will loose your data, but you can always make a nandroid backup before and restore it afterwards.

and yes this is effective. you will get an updated bootloader as well, but you will still be able to unlock it......so it should not matter.

well accepting the ota will wipe your recovery, but it will not touch your sd card so your nandroid backup will be fine. your bootloader, recovery and rom will update to the latest stock versions. you will need to unlock the bootloader again, install a custom recovery, then nandroid restore and you should be fine.
