Network vision & LTE rollout

well.. i am here to say...

i live in Dallas/ft worth Texas..one of the first to get 4G LTE sprint.
my 3G sucks.. and has sucked for close to 2 yrs. below 500kbs .. often below 100kbs

That sucks, but it is entirely possible that wherever you frequent is in one of the many transitional zones. Many have confirmed that signal and speeds have decreased in areas that are under construction/improvement prior to them getting better.

They may be separate works, but they're in the same rack and using the same backhaul.

Picked up some great speeds yesterday while walking from my office (70th and 2nd) to catch the E train (51st and Lex).

I noticed today the data connection icon on the taskbar of my EVO 4G LTE says it is connected to 4G rather than 3G as it usually is. This would be great, except I live no where even remotely close to a 4G LTE network.

I do notice my speeds appear much faster than normal (maybe a placebo affect), but I checked them and they are only around 3Mbps which would be way to low for 4G. I never benchmarked my speeds before so I don't know what I'm usually getting.

Why would the phone suddenly think it's on 4G?

The only way your phone would show 4g is if you are on 4g. Speeds of around 3Mbps are not way too low for 4g. That would just be far from the source tower. Sprint is turning on towers everyday throughout the country ahead of actually launching the markets. For instance I am in New Orleans and we have about 8 LTE towers active ahead of the launch (probably launch sometime around May) The fact that you have 4g is a great sign; Where are you located?

Yup you have two towers in your area shown as either in progress or full LTE. The tower that is full LTE is around 2812 Rockwell Drive. Looks like your area is getting LTE sooner rather than later. Go to Community Blog List - Sprint 4G Rollout Updates (I hope the admins here don't mind me posting this link). It is a site that deals explicitly with the LTE rollout and there are even Tower Locations and Progress in the Sponsors forum. Donate a couple bucks and you can join those of us who are mapping out our areas early via Sensorly. Also check out Sensorly (they have an Android app) and contribute to the community.

It's possible they activated the new 4g equipment but don't have their new backhaul in place yet... You might just be running as fast as the existing data will run. When they flip the switch it should take off.
 
This tower was probably just activated a few hours before I ran this. I bet I was the only person even connected to it!

I ran 6 or 7 tests to be sure it wasn't a fluke. They were all in this range.

I'm not sure if you ran that test connected to LTE on the top of that screen shot it shows you are on WiFi. You need to turn off WiFi for LTE to light up.
 
Um, I took the speed test while I was out and about and the screen shot when I was at home. My Speed at home is only 15MB and this is twice that. The test was 3:58PM and the screen shot is at 7:02 the next morning. Not only that but the speed test clearly shows LTE...

The test is legit.
 
I did not say the test was not legit. I think my reply came off wrong....It was more of a question. I was just going by the screen shot you gave. Glad to see you are getting good results. Good Luck
 
The Raleigh/Durham, NC area is seeing spotty 4G, nice but voice/SMS are suffering. More often than not now, we would get disconnected in the middle of phone call multiple times, phone calls and SMS not getting through, or SMS comes double, or not getting voice mail until hours or days later.

Did you experience this or is experiencing this as NV/LTE are being rollout in your area? It's been like this for at least 3 months. How much longer? :(

How do I report this to Sprint where they will accept or able to track? Will they compensate, you think? :rolleyes:

Same stuff happened to me when I was on sprint. One time I sent someone 25 texts in a row (even though I only sent 1, sprints network resent the message another 25 times).


And as far as the calls dropping and things like that the first thing is I wouldn't even ask them about network issues because they will just tell you "ah yes sir, I see we are having tower issues in your area, please call back in another week if the issues are still on-going"

And secondly, they won't give you a credit, the only thing they ever offered to me was an airrave to use while at home, and they offered to terminate my contract with no fee if I returned my 2 year old evo.

On the days sprint worked (at least in my area) it was awesome, I could get around 1.5mbs to 2mbs down on 3g, and my voice signal was great, no dropped calls. But honestly after they "completed" their 3g overhaul in my area my service was awful and I ended up having to leave sprint after not having usable 3g speeds (around .03mbps) so I couldn't retrieve work emails and I started missing calls from work.

Well now that doesn't make sense. NV suppose to make it better not worse.
