New Firmware

i've only been on k4 for about a week, but haven't had any reboots during that time - but i have noticed a very significant boost in battery longevity :)

I really fancied a go with this - and the concept of themes in general.

So I created a folder called themes on the internal flash, and put the darkstar for IK4 zip file in it as instructed.

Rebooted into recovery 4.4 and clicked 'apply a theme from sd'.

...and it just errors with "Couldn't open directory /themes/"

Has anyone a clue as to the problem? I have created the themes folder on both the internal and external flash now with the same effect. :(

There's a virtual sloe gin in it!

Are you sure you're putting it in the right directory? The /themes/ folder should be on system partition, not on /sdcard/themes/

You can:
adb shell mkdir /themes/
adb push DarkStarrGalaxoNF0.61_signed.zip /themes/
adb shell sync

And you should be good to go.

I get
"mkdir failed for /themes/, Read-only file system"
I have enabled su/root from recovery.
This sloe gin may prove expensive!

Do:

adb remount

and you'll have r/w filesystem. Just be careful with it.

EDIT: One more thing. Didn't see it right away. You're using IK4, so naturally you won't be pushing DarkStarrGalaxoNF0.61_signed.zip, but instead DarkStarIK4NF0.61_signed.zip

adb remount
remount failed: Operation not permitted

adb root
adbd cannot run as root in production builds

Oh dear. What am I doing?
I do appreciate your help screamingbug.

boot into recovery to use remount if you are on a standard build firmware and not galaxo

Hmm. You did root you phone according to Rastaman's instructions?

From recovery, you should get a root shell after adb shell -- prompt is: #
If you don't get it then probably you aren't rooted, but I could be mistaken, as I don't use stock rom. Rastaman will probably give you some better advice when he comes around.

It's not really rebooting when it "crashes" just loses service, it makes a notification beep and prepares the SD card. Then signal is then restored. Spare parts shows the uptime as if it's not rebooted. Seems to happen more often when I disable wifi. maybe I'll do another factory default when I can be bothered to type in my wifi password again. Would be nice if you could cut and paste it!

Hi
I just flashed from I5 to K4 and I have write the APN manually in the same way than my flash before (G8 to I5) but when I try to connect to google, 3G doesn't work. The only different step from before flash is that I forged to flash without CSC in this last case. any idea of what are happening?

thank you

Guys,
I'm very new with Android, so don't mind if I make stupid questions here, ok?

I've already asked here if I could flash my phone to the Galaxo ROM.
The answer was NO, cause in Brazil the model is different from Europe. Here is i7500L..
The stupid question is: Can I update my phone to the newest firmware here in Europe? Can I flash to the IK4? Mine here is I7500LVIII3 (but with all the problems reported with the first firmwares from Europe).

I really hopeless Samsung will release something for us in South America!
:(

APN problem solved.

Finally i don't know what is the reason of failed. I re-writed sometimes APN name, user and password and failed again, but I deleted and writed again and now is ok for me (I manage 2 APN and perhaps it's important the order of them)

I've been off the forum for ages.. has drakaz mentioned anything about building his Galaxo ROM to use IK4 instead of II5? IK4 sounds good but I like the Galaxo stuff.
