New Firmware

okay, i installed the new firmware, but I wasn't able to flash Galaxo 1.1 on it.

I just used the same update.zip and rectools that I used to flash last time. I even copied II5.tar, but it didn't work. The phone would book past the screen with the green android, then it would show the grey "Android" text screen, then it'd just go black.

So, I just have the firmware from this thread and it works really well. New keyboard, fast, quick compass; but for some reason my battery is draining super fast. I charged it to 100, and I just left it on the floor for 1 hour, and it's at 85%!!

I installed advanced task killer and killed all the apps, then uninstalled advanced task killer. Let's see what happens tomorrow. It used to drop like 3% per night (8 hours).

Has anyone managed to install galaxy with this firmware or experience similar battery issues??

i personally wouldnt try flashing Galaxo on this firmware as its based on a lower firmware model (II5)

since you flashed IK4 have you done a factory reset?

Just an quick note for friends here.

I odin only "phone" of IK4 over Galaxo, used for few days now and it still working fine. All radio works.
I am not sure is it better than II5, but just keep it till it go wrong.

I rate it "worth to try".;) maybe something updated inside.:o

Battery is doing great with new fw on my phone.
After 3 days it's still on 85%.
Other than that, I didn't find any other improvement compared to ii fw...yeah new keyboard is ok too :)

no, actually. I did it now. I noticed that it would try to autosync this morning even though I disabled it.

I did do a few wipes while attempting to install galaxo though.

let's see if this factory reset fixes it.

I never switch mine off either, but once every few days I'll go to use it and it won't wake up. I dunno if it's on, but the screen lock is stuck, or if it's powered down, but the only way to get it back on and running is to remove and replace the battery. The normal power on/off button does nothing in this situation.

I'm on original O2 II4 at the moment.

I'm also on original O2 II4, and I get this. My phone stays on all the time, so it's not a powering up issue. I'll go to do something, and the damm thing is dark and wedged. Battery out is the only way to restart.

Today all my purchased apps finally showed up in the market and I was able to download and install them. Seems like Google has "whitelisted" the IK4. Hooray!

I have 3 zip files I downloaded with the below folders and files:

GT-I7500_OpenSource.zip
BSP
libcore
Middle
webkit

GT-I7500_OpenSource_Update1.zip
BSP
I7500XXII5

GT-I7500_OpenSource_Update2.zip
BSP
I7500XXIK1

I haven't rooted my phone or anything.. how do I get these onto my phone?

Those are the source codes for the kernel that's used on the galaxy. Normally only developers deal with source code. For normal users, you'll want the compiled and packaged ver. Check the link in this thread leading to IK4 and the threads on how to use odin.

No offence, but that is exactly why most of the how to flash guides say something like "don't do it unless you know what you're doing" =)
I understand many people want their phone to work properly, but unfortunately you at least have to know the very basics.

Anyway, please read the forum carefully. Especially in last moth or so it became quite newbie-friendly. There's a lot of information on how to flash and root your phone - just "shop around" and don't rush.

H8 -> IK4

So far so good. No noticeable difference in speed, however, there is more
RAM available. Also, 3D now works. Battery life seems to be the same.

However, the bug with SMSs getting sent twice is still here. I'm not sure
about the Google Talk bug yet, I'll let you know when I have more data.

O2 tell me they've had no one except me report this issue to them
Hi there, I had the same issue ever since I installed DroidLive, I tried all the apps and the only one to give me weird issues on my Galaxy was DL. Since uninstalled no issues so far.

hehe, glad you found another phone with swap enabled. ;).

you can put swapon command at the end of /
system/bin/rc to apply it automatically at reboot.

I have tried to add the swapon command at the end of rc but when I boot the swap is not automatically applied.

Currently the last lines of my rc file are:

sleep 60
kill -9 `pidof com.android.alarmclock`
swapon /dev/block/mmcblk1p2

Am I doing something wrong? (Yes I have waited the 60 seconds after boot before I have checked the status of swap with free command)

Have you tried DroidSwap?
Its on free on the market. You can set swappiness, have swap enabled when ever you reboot your phone, you can also choose whether to use a swap partition or a swap file from the external sd.

And it all works on the Galaxy.

Hope that helps. :)

i tried using DroidSwap
it always says Failed to create swap etc.
I've root galaxy
What should i need to do to solve it
using IK4 version

thanks,

Press menu/configuration/info and see if the swap file has been created or if your using a swap partition, it should now be used.

If your using a swap partition check the box in the Advanced preferences labelled: Use swap partition and also make sure the path is correct in the option underneath that one: /dev/block/mmcblk1p2

If you want a swapfile and want it on your external SD card, under Swap place put this path in: /sdcard/sd/swapfile.swp
and the choose the size and swappiness you want.

n8schicht, great thanks for the link!

Is there a way to undo the theme other than completely re-flashing the phone?

Not as easy as applying the black theme :D But you could pull the original files with adb before you decide to go with the black theme. If you don't like it you could then push your original IK4-files back. Or you could back up your system with Nandroid...

The stock kernel doesnt support SWAP - it hasnt been compiled in. You need to make a custom kernel if you want to use swap. Galaxo kernel supports swap for example.
