Although I like SBC kernels, I never really saw a significant difference.

The difference for me with SBC kernels is night and day on my phone. Typically 12-14hrs or so w/o SBC, easily 18hrs+ with SBC. Tiamat 3.3.7 SBC is the only tiamat version that's worked well for me though, Netarchy's SBC worked wonders for me also. Lithid's More Freedom and Anthrax's kernel have been the best GB kernels that i've tried, but battery life is still normal compared to stellar. I'm really impressed with this Anthrax (004) so far though, so i'd love to see an SBC version of it if able. I know things will move towards ICS soon, and early development for that is a must, but depending on how well it does/doesn't work on these OG Evo's and how much space is used, will determine if i use an ICS as a DD ROM or not. I've even debated on going back to Froyo to use a good Sense ROM with SBC, but hard to give up the goodies offered in GB.

I usually just play with the phone for a few minutes in the morning untill I get the battery down around 90%, then put it back on the charger while I go shower and get ready. By the time thats done the phone is fully charged and its as if you had SBC.

What on earth did you say to him? You rock!
:D

Just getting in the game here, does anybody have any tips or links for a good AnthraX or other kernel that will pair up with my evo 4G and MikG3.0?

I used to have a ritual like that prior to SBC in Froyo. Then i got spoiled LOL Nothing like snatching it off the charger in the am, send a text or two all morning, and still having 99% left at lunch

Tiamat SBC spoiled me too, but since i'm on Sense again, i have to remember to keep it plugged into my PC at work if i want to be able to use it passed 10pm each evening

I've found if, if you don't let the phone get to 100%, say, stop charging at 98%, you won't see that huge initial drop

In essence were doing the same thing. I just charge mine overnight and then top it off.

The key is to take it off the charger before it starts discharging

My original message to chad:

Hi Chad,

I'm an Evo 4G user and just wanted to start out by saying that I LOVE the original anthrax kernel you ported over to the EVO 4g. Its head and shoulders above any other kernel out there for us, and its the only one that has recently been in active development.

With that being said, I ask you to please reconsider your decision to not port your work. Your AnthraX series has been a game changer and as of this point, your kernel development is the only thing keeping us OG EVO user's relevant.

I understand the time it takes to make and keep up with a development project, and I respect your 1 hr/day maximum time limit on the project. Honestly, we wouldn't even need nightly updates. Would it be easier on yourself to just do ports for major stable releases rather than the nightlies? I would be perfectly happy with a major update every few weeks or month if that would help your time constraints.

I hope you'll reconsider. I'm still flashing your v9 test build on every ROM I use.

Stroking an ego and telling it like it is can go a long way.

I'm looking for the same information. I've got MIKG3.0 running but can't seem to find the correct Anthrax kernel to install. I tried one but after boot I still show the stock HTC kernel. I'm thinking maybe I'm downloaded the wrong file

Sorry for the noobish questions, but...
1. if the Beats kernel is released for the Evo 4g, is the Developer only looking at a Sense ROM? i.e. will AOSP get some lov'in?

2. Will this kernel offer USB host mode to the Evo?

3. Will this finally replace the missing bluetooth stack missing on Sense? i.e. will I finally be able to use a Sense ROM and a wiimote/bluetooth keyboard/mouse?

4. Is Beats Audio really as great as people are saying it is?

5. If 4=YES! then what ROMS will be able to run it?

a lot of your questions will all be up to chad, the dev behind the kernel. not sure what kind of support he will offer for the og evo. i know that the evo 3d he has support for both aosp and sense. but with his 1st version he only had sense. so not sure yet. that is if and when he comes out with version 2 for the og evo.

and the same will go for #2 and #3.

beats on the evo 3d is awesome. i can only imagine it would be the same. sound quality is much improved with beats. and as far as rom support goes, there really is not many roms that have beats cooked in yet. i know that ☆ ★ | ROM | InfectedROM Eternity™ | NIGHTLYS | Sense 3.5 | XE BEATS AUDIO | ★ ☆ - xda-developers has it for sure.

I had been holding off rooting my EVO 4G until Cyanogen had 4G and HDMI GUI out working and gave up following them for this a year or two ago. But a couple of weeks ago I got interested in rooting and finally did it. so the first and only ROm I tried was MikG 3.0 and I like it.

But then I got interested in seeing if I could get HDMI out to work which got me into kernels and stuff which got me to here. From the title I gather this kernel also has USB host mode which would also be great as my goal is to use a keyboard and mouse with a monitor on my EVO if Sprint really does shut down the use of that program I guess we can no longer talk about here but which I need at work because my computer computer is locked down tight and I want to have internet access during the day.

So i went searching for the Freedom kernel and ended up here. So, now I learn about this great new kernel (I confess I have no idea what Beats is and why I should want it), but if it's good and has HDMI out and works with MikG 3.0 and has USB host to boot I want it, except now I think it is tougher to get. I think I got it (SUPERSONIC-SENSE-AnthraX-2.6.38.8-REV_zzzTESTzzz009) from the link in the first post that replaces the dead XDA one from the MikMik forum here:
http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?10584-Anthrax-Kernel-for-Evo-4G
(mod deleted, sorry)

If that is not the file for use with MikG 3.0, could someone PM me the link?

I guess a final problem is that my HBoot is 00.79.0000 - I think I read this may not be recent enough to replace my kernel. Is updating my HBoot a difficult or dangerous thing? I have Nandroid backups but it seems to me if HBoot gets messed up then i have a problem on my hands. Should I (do I have to) my HBoot and how do I update it?

Le's please respect the dev's wishes on this -

If you happen to have my older kernels, please do not post links to them, or share them in public forum. I was legally ordered to pull them all, so I did. If you downloaded them before 8PM Pacific Standard Time on 1-3-2012, you are fine to use them as you see fit.

Let's see if we can't be patient a bit longer until this is all sorted out.

Cheers, thanks! :)

Private message are public? What kind of a forum is this? I was once on a forum whre the administrator read PM's but never one where PM's were public

I assume he took out a link you posted to it?

If so, you can't directly link it. As he quoted, the dev got into some legal trouble and was forced to pull the kernel.

If you WERE able to get your hands on it, the v 9 test is the correct sense kernel

I didn't post a link to it. I asked someone to send a private (not) public message with a link to it or an attachment - whatever. That's not public in my opinion.

Chad's instructions were that people could do what they want with ones downloaded before 1/3/2012 so hopefully someone wants to give me a copy.
