Root New Phone Backup question

An UrgeTo Dance

The Hero of the Winds
Okay so I got a new phone because of broken speaker and back. I know has probably been answered but can I use the nandroids from my old phone as long as I don't restore the wimax? I imagine its probably better to just set up the new one without using my nandroids.

EDIT: I use Team Win recovery so I can select what I want to restore from my backups.

I've always seen it said that nandrids are phone specific, but if you use team win or the new amon ra you might be able to get away with restoring certain things.

Personally, its not worth the risk for me.

You could get away with restoring titanium backups maybe, unless they block that so someone doesnt just buy the app once and send it to all his buddies

Figured that, oh well, I can still do Titanium. Also I didn't know the new Amon let you pick what to restore. I'm going to have to try it out.

EDIT: can someone give me a link to the new Amon, all I see is 2.3.

thanks for asking that question OP. Alot of people would have just tried and and then came in here going What do I do. If the Nandroid only copied the ROM, Kernel, Data, and User Data Files you would have no problem. However the Kernel files are loaded in with the nandroid in "System" these would bring confusion to the ROM and cause it to lock up.

Taking Nandroids out of one phone and putting them in another is like taking the Registry from windows 95 and putting them into Windows 7 64bit.

trying to find the OP soon as I do I'll get it posted. If someone doesnt beat me to it

Yeah I haven't seen this question in a while and I was pretty sure I knew the answer lol. I figured I would ask it to make sure and to hopefully help people in the future.

here is the link:
Free File Sharing Made Simple - MediaFire

download the 3.08 supersonic version.

this is not flashable. just take an old amon ra PC36IMG file or even the one linked by mike and unzip it. replace the the recovery image file with the one you downloaded. re-zip the file with something like 7zip and rename it to PC36IMG.zip. and let hboot update and now you have the new recovery. it is not amon ra but a amon ra style recovery.

Got that from here I think it is already reziped but it looks like you posted an updated one?

>Although the developer has a download link to the recovery image, should you just want to install via standard the standard bootloader PC36IMG.ZIP method, another user has made that available later in the thread (or linked down below).[Developer thread | PC36IMG download] Thanks, Ropodope at Vaelek's Forums!

yeah i have not really the thread but i only saw the img file. it just needs to be packaged along with the script file as a PC36IMG file. if there is an updated zip for it then just install that via hboot.

You know, I actually think that you can restore certain parts of the nandroid, though I can't remember which pieces... so I wouldn't lol.

Obviously, the wimax keys are in the DO-NOT category. ;)

I'm unaware about the flashable-ness of that file, sorry.

Okay so the one labeled PC36IMG-AmonRA-3.07-gnm.zip is not flashable?

306 is flashable so try that one. I believe the difference between the two is the ability to restore certain parts. something i probably will not practice as it seems to be doing it wrong could have some major consequences.

306 is a .img file, I don't think thats flashable.(I may be wrong though) One of the reasons I wanted to try this is so I could get the option to only restore parts.
