Root New Update taking forever to install

DriverSS

Lurker
My phone notified me of a new software update so I downloaded the new update and started the install. It then went to a black screen that has a white triangle with a yellow explanation point in the middle of it and a blue android under it. It has been on this screen for about an hour and half.
Is this normal or do I need to abort?
This update just showed up last night.

Welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Is this the 4.54 update? Not sure exactly what happened with the update because it should have been a 4-5 mb update. Have you pulled the battery and tried to turn the phone on again?

Thank you. Yes it is 4.54. I just now pulled the battery and took my sd card out. I am going to try to update it without it in there.

How long should this take? It back to the same screen. I know I should have mentioned this before but I do have it rooted.

Ahh, well, that changes things alot:eek: You should never accept an update from HTC/Sprint while rooted;)

I'm going to move you over to the root section, that way others can give you some advice:)

Give us a little information. What rom are you on, how did you root and what's your recovery?

You might also try and get to the bootloader and then to recovery to see if its intact and if you still have s-off(pull the battery, then hold volume down+power til the white bootloader screen comes up). What is your hboot version?

You should unchecked the notify me when an update is available. Be glad it didn't brick your phone. Fortunately this is only a security update and no changes to your hboot should have been made

yep like andy said never accept an ota while you are rooted. it could do some serious stuff to your phone. in general ota's usually will change the software of your phone. it has the potential of:
1. changing your hboot and thus closing any exploit that was used to gain root. in other words, it could unroot you and close the exploit so that you will not be able to re-root it. fortunately this update will not do that. but this applies to any phone, so when you do an upgrade and you root that phone, this could happen.
2. in some cases i have seen where ota's will leave you with s-on but leave the custom recovery you have installed like amon ra or clockwork mod. this is a weird state and can be difficult to change.
3.or it could just brick your phone.

so main thing is whenever you have a rooted phone never accept an ota. all you have to do is wait for the devs to come up with a stock rooted version of it. or wait until the devs have cooked it into their existing rom.

When I do that this is what comes up.
Supersonic EVT3 Ship S-Off
HBOOT-6.16.1002

The phone does as long as i dont try to install the update.

ok so that part looks good. if you can get to recovery then i would just flash either the stock 4.54 rooted rom or try somthing like mikg 2.6 which has it included in his rom. you can get it in the rom/kernel sticky.

Excellent. Can you get to recovery from that screen? If so, do as Ocn said and flash a rom to get you back to a usable state. If you can't get to recovery(you get a red triangle or something like that), then we can get you a recovery flashed.

The phone works fine as long as I dont try to do the update. How should I go about unrooting it? I need to take it in to see about getting it repaired or replaced for separate issues.

Use the Rooting for Dummies guide for GB for information for unrooting. All information will be there for you;)

And I would recomend using the 2nd RUU at the bottom that u run from the pc. Seems to work better than the one you flash.
