Root New Updated Gapps

I haven't even been installing Gapps with BACKside, just Google maps from Market as far as I remember

I almost always have to install gapps I guess because I almost always do a 'clean' install.

Just remembered, I think it went to the market for voice search once when I tried to use it. I don't even really use Gmail for much, I can do without it.

Just FYI- gapps is a collection of Google apps including the Market, the Market Initializer, the Market Updater, and Google services frameworks (I think there's another one too, can't remember off the top of my head). Once you install it, reboot, and sign in, it then offers the option to download the rest of the Google apps (gmail, books, maps, etc). ;)

If you're using the market then you installed gapps.

Hey I just go by the instructions on Jerrys changelog page where it says.. 6 Install gapps(hopefully not necessary anymore, ymmv) so I havent been and I at least dont remember doing it since the lazt time i completely wiped. Maybe its included with rom i dont know?

I understand what gapps is. I was just wondering what's different. With this updated gapps?

I see that the- Flash gapps (hopefully not necessary anylonger, ymmv) that I saw is actually written under the "Updating from a previous BACKside-IHO build" and not "Installing from another ROM"
I was just trying to remember back and thought that I didn't last time I did a complete wipe,
I did try Harmonia 2.03 like a week ago and gapps isn't required for that. Maybe that's what I'm thinking of?

I've never heard of the Harmonia ROM. Any good?

It's suppposed to be more stripped down. I didn't notice much difference, then again I didn't try it for very long. I started missing the customizing options with BS right away so went back..

Sorry don't mean to derail thread.

Edit: incorrect info.

JerryScript is working on incorporating the gapps into the ROM like the Harmonia IHO.
Sorry, wont be doing that. CyanogenMod received a cease-and-desist order a while back from Google for including gapps in their ROM. There was a huge fight over the issue with the open source community accusing Google of not being open source with Android, and Google stating Android was open source but gapps was not. In the end, they negotiated a deal that allowed gapps to be packaged separately.

So no, I will not be adding gapps to the ROM. I will probably be switching my recommended gapps package to a modified one that uses the older Market (falls under your purchased license), and has no MarketUpdater app. ;)

Nothing secret.
I simply put them in the rom, not all, just the very minimal needed (Market, email, Gmail and the underlying scripts).

Most simply don't because of Cyanogenmod not including them, I just take a little time put them back. CM and Google got into a small war over this, which is why they don't have them by default. They eventually came to some agreement, but I don't think CM has forgiven Google over it.

Thanks a lot Lesie Ann. I was pretty curious how you accomplished that.
I haven't tried your newest IHO version. Now I guess I'll have to fall off the wagon and flash your's just to see.
My name is AndyOpie150 and I was a recovering ROM flashing addict.
