Nexus 5 Pre-Release/Speculation Thread

Even if it's clocked higher, the Snapdragon 800 chipset is much more power efficient than the Snapdragon 400 chipset. Will battery life match the G2, absolutely not. But I agree that I think it's going to be much better than most are expecting. I have little doubt that most will make it all day with 4-5 hours of screen time if not more. Plus this unlocked bootloader will allow custom kernels for underclocking/undervolting if you need to squeeze more life out, unlike certain other devices with locked bootloaders. ;)

I do hope all of that is true. I think for me the key is that I just don't want to worry about the battery crapping out during the day while using it. I feel like my fear of the phone dying dictates my use of the GNex as it just sucks the life out even when nothing is going on.

I think worst case scenario, buying the phone off contract and doing a prepaid plan would let me sell it without losing all too much on my investment if I wasn't happy.

I'm in training for the Nexus 5 release.

Routine: Consume 1 Kit Kat Candy Bar daily.

I don't give a flip if it makes a difference, but it sure does taste good :D

Just ate a king-size and chased it down with a Barq's Root Beer.

Still not Android Kit-Kats in the stores here. I want to win a Nexus 7.

yup nexus devices always have a black front. draws focus to the Screen and away from the device itself. Never a colored front, just like how it will never have a logo or text on the front.

You don't need a specific android kitkat. Literally any kitkat variety will work. I have been using it for weeks now.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but once you redeem your first prize, you cannot win any more. Only one prize per email/name/household.

I think its got a lot more to do with the fact that its a cheap phone. People would (more)easily be able to buy it outright and not have to lose their unlimited data

Verizon CEO: Unlimited data plans just aren't sustainable | Mobile - CNET News

I was on that carrier for a short time for the gnex, but I wouldnt give them money knowing how this guy runs his business.
McAdam talked about the "friction" he has put into the process of upgrading a smartphone, which makes it tougher for a customer to get a new device, which he said helped the company's bottom line.
Just terrible. The gaul this guy has is astounding.

But back to the main point remember how T-Mobile and other retailers priced the nexus 4. Outside the play store it was the normal ~$500 retail (or whatever). Play store was the only place selling the phone 'at cost'.

Early on, the Play store was sold out and tmobile was really the only other place you could get it.

I'm not surprised by the carrier price increase... there's no incentive for them to sell it if they don't make money. There wasn't enough competition from other 3rd party retailers to drive the price down.

Carriers make their money by selling phone service. If you aren't signing a contract for their service they're going to get their money other ways, IE the device

Out of curiosity, I went back and checked and it looks like the Nexus 4 was officially announced on the Android Blog on October 29th 2012. It was a Monday, making the equivalent date this year Monday, Oct 28th. Consistent with other rumors here. Google seems to like repeating patterns.

There was suppose to be a major keynote that day in NYC, but it just so happened to be the same day that Hurricane Sandy came ashore there. So they canceled it ahead of the storm.

In the email I got it says to try daily for more chances to win more google play credit. Plus on a forum I went to a lot of people said they have won 30$ credit and that was several weeks ago.

I think that may be a difference between the US game, which is run by Hershey (who makes KitKat in the US) and the game in the rest of the world, which is run by Nestle (who makes KitKat everywhere else).

I'm pretty sure this week will be interesting. I think we will get some worthy KitKat news this week and Nexus 5 right after it.

I hope you're right, would be nice to get some sort of date at the least. I still worry about supply issues like what happened last year which is why I'm willing to take a money hit on selling my Nexus 4 to ensure that I still have a good phone while I wait and in case I don't get in on the launch supply.

I still think the 31st is too perfect of a date for Google to overlook.

If it comes before then I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I won't be on the edge of my seat until it gets later on in the week

Like I said a few days ago I really do think they will release it on the 31st. If not I hope they will at lease unveil it.

This is probably what I hope more than a feeling but with all that is going on it does make a lot of sense.

Selling the S3 tomorrow, hello GNex for the next month

Gutsy, especially since we have no idea whether Sprint will carry it. Or if they'll pull a Gnex at release it 3-4 months after the GSM version came out. Or are you considering changing carriers?

Nope, sticking with Sprint for the time being. I'll likely be on there till the family cuts me off their plan

You bring up a good point with the possible CDMA delay ala gnex. I hope they don't.

I just had a lab conflict come up with the time we agreed on, so if he can't meet a little earlier ill have to wait another day.

Which is one of the many reasons why I'm moving to T-Mobile in the next couple of weeks. I waited for Sprint to get the Galaxy Nexus....not this time.
