Nexus 5 Pre-Release/Speculation Thread

Why am I buying the Nexus 5?

I already have the Nexus 4, all that the Nexus 5 will really give me will be a better camera and LTE. Which are nice features but I'm not too bothered about them.

After the initial excitement, it'll be virtually no different from having an N4 in my pocket, I can't see any advantages it will really give me. Sure, the screen is sharper and it has a better CPU, but nothing runs slow for me now, and 720 on a 5 inch screen is fine.

I know all this, and I know it will add almost nothing above the capabilities of my N4, yet I'm still going to buy it, why?

Only you know the answer to that man. If you don't know why you want it then don't get it. Simple as that. Just don't get it.

Me on the other hand. I really want LTE mainly because I have played around with phones that have it and I feel those speeds and get extremely jealous. I hate AT&T HSPA where I am 2-3megs tops LTE on the other hand 35-40 megs. 0_o I wants that!

Also 16GB is nice but once I start rooting and changing roms and music 16 GB doesn't last long. 32GB taking that in a heartbeat!

I like the design of the Nexus 5 better as well. Not a fan of the glittery effect.. never have been.

I think the HTC One is the best phone available at present, certainly now they do a vanilla one. Why do you want to ditch it, is it the HTC skin?

If so, now they do a vanilla HTC One can't you flash it with a pure Android experience?

I'd pick the vanilla HTC One over the Nexus 4 if they were the same price. However, given the N4 is half the price it's a no brainer. There's no other phone, regardless of price, I'd pick over the N4.

There is no better reason, apart from maybe owning an earlier iPhone.

I used to own an iPhone back when they were the best phone around. Then I switched to the GNex when it came out, and wouldn't consider going back at the mo.

I'm wondering the same thing. I see a few people are ditching the HTC One for the N5 but I'm not sure why.

I haven't got the time to be bothered rooting and flashing anymore. It just doesn't interest me like it did.

I really quite like the look of the Nexus 5 and want the latest software.

Plus if I sell my HTC One on eBay I expect it should all but cover the cost of the N5.
 
Unfortunately I'm on Verizon.... So I won't be able to get the N5. I was 3rd in line when the Gnex came out at my local Verizon store. I'm really going to miss the pure android experience. I'm going to have to settle for a LG G2 or Sammy Galaxy Note 3. I just died a little bit inside.

I'll pray for you. Ha! No, but that suck Verizon can't seem to be logical about things.

While I understand, it is hard to see a Note 3 as "dying inside." ;):p And, if there was a Verizon N5, they would just end up messing with it. :rolleyes:

4) SIM locked depending on carrier
5) Possibly region locked
6) Slow updates

It's still a solid phone at the end of the day. I own one and love it. But of course I rather have a pure experience after owning previous Nexus devices as well, and all that only matters to the developer kind of user. The average user doesn't even have knowledge of all that. Unfortunately are tech savvy community is really small compared to the average user. A good camera, speed, and big screen is all the average user needs and wants.

Note 3 is not a bad runner up. if there was no Nexus i would get a Note. that huge beautiful display is awesome. that huge display is at least somewhat of a consolation.

Agreed, it's still a solid device at the end of the day. Some people like touchwiz, some abhor it. The same can be said about the rest of the things I listed. I'm just picky that I only will buy a phone that contains most of the things on that list. SIM Unlocked, Region Lock Free, and Bootloader unlocked are musts though for me.

Unfortunately are tech savvy community is really small compared to the average user. A good camera, speed, and big screen is all the average user needs and wants.

Have you checked out the MotoX? Closer to stock vanilla experience.

You really cant go wrong with most high end devices today. Its all about what you prefer.
 
You know, all this talk about how Google failed the launch has got me thinking. I'd say that they've succeeded well beyond advertising it.

First, they've leaked stuff in a way that gets all of us enthusiasts encouraged riled up, but not really in a way that anyone has given up on the phone. Instead, we're all hanging on waiting for our next fix.

Next, all the leaks have been very strategic in where they show up: tech blogs, message boards, and the like. Really, they've reached their target demo without trying too hard.

Finally, presuming it gets released soon, they wouldn't have crossed that line to really tick off the hard care enthusiasts who want this phone anyway.

I suppose it's just my thoughts, but I'm pretty amazed by how well they've generated so much buzz about this phone without spending anything on marketing....

If anything; if ethics werent all too good, they could've generated money from marketting. I mean, who would say no to "Hey, want a Nexus 5 leak on your site? Sure, we'll give you one, just give us a bit of dough"... Not saying they did this whatsoever as it wouldnt be ethical at all; but would it work? Yep.

Why is this? Lack of coverage in your area, tied in to a contract?

Everyone is always complaining about Verizon, I'm surprised they have any customers left.

Sorry, I'm not to clued up on the US cellphone market, apart from knowing the Oligopolistic practices are a disgrace and the gov needs to give them a massive kick up the arse.

Here's what I did. Kept the phone I had until my two years were up, which is now. I'm going to pull the trigger on the N5 as soon as it's available, and will likely activate it on Straight Talk to start.

I decided to ditch Verizon when I figured out my Moto Droid RAZR Maxx was so locked down I probably couldn't even flash it to use on another carrier. That, and I hate the bloatware almost as much as I hate the updates to the bloatware.
