Nexus 7 LTE?

Yep, that's the resistance I was expecting. This is an lte only device with no cdma radio that runs on the block c lte (band 13). According to the regulations Verizon agreed to when they purchased the spectrum, they have to let any device that is compatible with that frequency onto their network. In the past because devices have had a cdma radio in it, those regulations haven't been enforced because the can deny cdma access.

However, since this is the first device of its type, Verizon employees haven't encountered this situation and will likely be clueless on how to handle it.

So the answer is nobody knows?

More or less. We're in uncharted waters because this is the first device to directly challange Verizon's closed network.
OK, Guess I will wait and see how this pans out. VZW should like this scenario. No HW support and they get to collect for the service. seems like a No Brainer.

I have really been waiting on the LTE version; was going to sell my old Nexus 7 as soon as this becomes available. So I guess the question now is, Am I patient enough for this to come to Verizon, or should I just go T-Mobile right now?

The answer is Im probably not patient enough--lol.

It's SIM unlocked out of the box, so even though it comes with a T-Mobile SIM, you can still activate it on Verizon (if they ever get it together) or AT&T.

For realsies? (LOL).

Let me get this straight: I could buy that now, and wait until Verizon gets its act together, in the meantime I could just use it Wifi, correct?
Indeed. It even comes with a month of free T-Mobile data, so you could use that in the meantime as well.

Ordered mine today! Paid the $14 two day shipping so I'll run it through some testing to see if the LTE was worth it. Will let you know how T-Mobile's LTE signal handles in various conditions.

I have T-Mobile on my Nexus 4 with LTE enabled and it's pretty decent. Obviously your mileage may vary based on location. But if you have it, you should be pretty content.

jhawk,
true about the reception varies depending on where we are. I'm just tired of carrying around my heavy, slow ipad 2 with 3G cell reception.

I talked to a tier 2 Verizon Tech today.. First he said the SIM form my iPad 4 may not work , something about Apple being special or different or such. He then said that getting the SIM for a device should not be an issue. He did say that there is the possibility it would not work on VZW because it has not been tested and basically does not have VZW crap installed on it.

SO I said, since VZW is 700MHz LTE and this is 700MHz LTE, in theory it will work right? he did agree, I think he was just CYA incase I bought the Nexus & and it did not work on VZW. I assume the Nexus 7 would be one model for all 4 networks anyway so I am still deciding if I want to buy one to try it ( I like the free shipping right now)

That's interesting to hear. Also about it being all 4 networks, I don't believe it's compatible with Sprint. But it is definitely compatible with Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile.

My mistake.. there is no support for Sprint.. I fat fingered that one

Yeah, not that I'd go to Sprint anyways, lol. I want to see if my T-Mobile SIM in my Nexus 4 works in the tablet. Getting 5GB of data for 30 dollars is pretty sexy. ;)

As a general question, if I use my HTC DNA as a 4G Hotspot on Verizon with the Nexus 7 WiFi, what am I loosing in regards to speed? I have external battery backup so not really concerned about power drain. Is getting the LTE version just a convenience at that point?

I haven't noticed any speed reduction, if anything it seems like the tablet loads faster than the phone when doing exactly what you describe. If you are like me and always have your phone with you... No need to spend the extra money IMO.

I would agree in most cases, but the share plans that Verizon and AT&T have make it somewhat worth it if you're already using those plans. Granted this is if you can stomach the insane price of them.

Still waiting to receive the device - have UPS tracking number but no delivery date for some reason. Its in KY so should make it here this week.

That said the plan is to pull the micro SIM (I believe the correct size) from my old Razr and call Verizon telling them to switch the number from my Xoom to this new SIM.

I don't plan on bringing up the NExus at all if I can help it.

Also, for those who don't have a phone with the correct size verizon sim hanging around, you can buy them on Amazon supposedly new.

I heard you can also go to the Verizon store and get them for free but . . . . . their stores are scary.

I have found that using a phone as a hot spot vs having the wireless on the device can sometimes result in slower connections.

Nothing scientific, just a perception that whatever the phone is doing occasionally interferes with being a good proxy connection for another device.

You also impact the ability to make and receive calls when tethered.

Its worth ten bucks a month to add a line to my plan and have a dedicated device.

Probably would not be worth more than $20/month though.

So how does it work with the Sim. If I currently have a family data plan for my family. Do I just get the sim card and add it? I guess that VZW will get me for $10/month additional for the activated SIM card. Is that accurate?

You have two options for this. If you want it to have it's own sim, you pay the extra money to have the tablet on the plan. This could be as small as 10 dollars if you're on a share everything plan, or more if you're on a classic family plan. If you want to pop your sim from your phone in, you don't need anything else IIRC.

I beleive this is correct.

I need to move the SIM from the Xoom to the Nexus because I already have a Xoom on there under contract for a few more months.
