Help Note on creating threads

How about deleting threads that talk about why other threads should be deleted?

LOL, ok I couldn't help myself on that one.

Anyway, I got to say that the first time I joined this site I was a little worried about how heavily moderated this forum really was, but then I realize why. I am a member of several different sites and I got to say that I find myself always coming back. This community is incredibly peaceful and down to earth compared to many other forums out there. There really are a lot of idiots and internet tuff guys around here and its good to have dedicated mods trying their best to keep the peace while maintaining a respectable community.

was it really neccessary to name drop your employer? what did that accomplish? I can name drop also but what would be the point? Are you Bluescreen?

I have monitored this thread off and on for 2 years.

:p silly Cajun, this thread was just started today... :)

I agree with the deleting and locking of a thread like this. The thread makes no sense. I have monitored this thread off and on for 2 years. You don't need to be a member to see what is written. I work for Google and I like to read about Android phones. I guess that's a crime in this forum. Don't worry, you can deactivate my account after today. If I need help I will call up the developers of Android.

Slick, you're killing me. :D

That one's better than when you were going to buy the site to have me fired.

I say we take care of that pesky account right now.

(not BlueScreen, not IOWA (he wasn't a troll) ... that's all I can say here)

Ahh, but we've got this theory that if a thread becomes recursive enough it will cause a rift in the very fabric of space and time, HTC to give me a 2.3.x update for my Desire Z with Sense, and Rob to answer Phases' PMs in the same month he receives them. Although that last one is probably a long shot. :p

More seriously, some of us still wake up screaming in the middle of the night remembering the madness of previous "super phone" launches. Experience has taught us that some preemptive management pays dividends, for both staff and users.

Good news - admin is working hard to fill out missing forum structure.

We may get the same layout as - HTC Thunderbolt - Android Forums

If you've not seen the prefixes, please check out the idea - if you've not been to the TBolt forum VERY recently (like, today) - check it out.

That would alleviate the problem we've been managing to - fingers crossed!

And it seems you're not finding a lot of value in the organization we're trying to bring. That's ok, there's no one type of person or right answer for how the world should roll.

"A person is smart; people are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals."

+1 You can never please everyone. ;)

The girl just got a Thunderbolt today!

Thanks for cleaning things up.

Are the mods here a little bit quick on the trigger/overly proactive at times? Maybe...definitely so compared to some other forums where Mods are nowhere to be found. Is that a bad thing? Not to me. I've seen very little that has appeared to be anything less than as even handed and impartial as can be. I for one love the work the Mods are doing, and congratulate them on a job well done.

I wasn't around for the original Evo 4G launch, but I know most of the mod staff was, and they have a good idea what is going to be happening (history tends to repeat itself). Let 'em do their jobs and it'll be a much cleaner and more organized place.

Love the username btw:D

The dude abides....

Man, I'm so glad I don't have to mod a forum, anymore. Trolls can be entertaining in their ignorance, but only if you don't have to take out the trash.

But just thinking about this makes me remember when I was a mod on a fairly popular game forum. When will people learn that there is no such thing as an online public forum? Androidforums.com, like every other forum on the interwebz, is hosted on a privately owned server. Hence, said forum is owned by the people who own the server. It may be operated and maintained by others, but with the permission of the owner. The first amendment is not applicable here, even if androidforums.com is hosted in the United States. It is 'private property'. So, therefore, the owner(s) and any designated operator(s) (known as administrators and moderators, depending on access levels) can run said forums the way they see fit. So long as someone with higher access doesn't disagree.

That said, the mods here have been fairly open and level headed about how they run shop. I've seen EM state on numerous occasions that if you disagree with what actions he has taken, you are free to PM him about it and express your opinion. That may or may not change his opinion, but at least he gives you a chance to clarify why you posted what you did. I'm sure the other mods are also willing to hear your opinion, given that you present it like an adult, or an adult-like manner if you are not quite 18, yet.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen so many mods congregate in a single thread lol.

Although w/ that said, this is definitely one of my favored forums, because the posts here tend to be much more helpful and less childish than some of the other forums where the mods don't do anything.

To be completely honest i've been lurking the evo 3D for months now. I did the same for the Droid before it got released. After the Droid release the forums went to hell. I hung around for a few weeks but it was just bad IMO. This forum has been heating up over the last few weeks. I think the mods do a great job keeping things on track. I even fired off a pm to thank them for it. So I say keep pruning the trolls and garbage post. I think most people want to get in and get out well informed not reading a bunch of crap.

Now I just want my freaking phone:D

The new prefix codes are here! :) :)

Prefix codes replace subforums - we hope you find these better and faster.

We'll be moving existing threads into their correct prefixes as quickly as possible - meanwhile, please follow your instincts and classify your new threads just as you would if we were using the old subforum structures.

One more thing - it's just after 8 am EDT - welcome to launch day!

Okey dokey - I've set as many prefix codes as I could to allow things to flow smoothly.

Now - call out the Uh Oh Squad - I'm fixing to be late to go pick up my 3vo!

Stay cool - congrats to all getting theirs, use your prefix codes, pet your dog, and I'll be back with a 3vo! (fingers crossed!) :) ;)

i am still going to therapy over that launch. At least this one is being handled quite well. :D

We are like mold, we are everywhere. :p Some more quiet and secretly lurk in the background, others front and center.

Looks like the next PopCap game in that pic :P

I'm new to the Phandroid app but have always come on this forum via browser. Yesterday I was trying to ask a question by starting a new thread but I just kept getting a message telling me that I need to add a prefix. Can someone explain how I go about doing this?

On the browser, you should see a dropdown menu to the left of the title field when making a new thread. You just need to pick the most appropriate one of the four prefixes from there and it will work; it says 'no prefix' by default but having one is required.

Once the app in the market is updated, it will be the same process with the prefix dropdown menu right below the title field.

Love android forums and the evo 3d forum, absolutely hate the subforum tag thing. Maybe if you could set it to default to general when you enter and then select the others at will it would be better. I just don't like coming in and seeing all 100 new threads everytime and then having to drop down to clear the junk out.

Just a suggestion.
