How-To:

I am not an expert at flashing a phone using download mode and I am not responsible for anything you do to your phone with this information.
I like flashing my phone one step at a time and verifying the results before proceeding so this how-to is structured with this in mind. Note: MS Windows 7 is not my native OS of choice.

Quick unbrick instructions: Read this How-To and and flash this:

Samsung Transform Ultra CWM: tu_CWM_recovery - Minus
984faccaecf0c7ff87eb0e819f4ae99a tu_CWM_recovery.tar

Mod edit: please CWM found here instead (there were issues with the prior recovery):


Then press volume down and power buttons at the same time and you should see a new recovery.
I have tested this only on my Boost Mobile Samsung Transform Ultra

You will need these files:
Warning: minus.com seems to rename .exe files to .bin...if this happens, just rename them back to .exe

Samsung phone drivers for your version of MS Windows(hint bads3ctor - Minus.com ) Search for them. I will not post them here. It should look like this(your COM ports might be different):

Depending on what you are trying to do, you will need some or all of these:

Stock system file is a zip so you must unzip it and use the tar file inside.

These stock images are for Sprint only.
Stock system file is a zip so you must unzip it and use the tar file inside.
These images have been tested on Sprint TU and Odin has problems flashing them. More testing is needed. The image files are good....KydDynoMyte used dd to copy them to his TU partitions and they booted fine.

If you can flash back to stock with Odin without messing with /data, that would be preferred. Trust me, do not mess with /data unless the image you have is EXACTLY the size of your current /data partition. If you flash a /data partition image smaller then the stock size, you will be sorry and the phone will not boot properly. Read the bug tracking post below this post.

Put your Ultra into download mode by holding down "volume down" + "camera" + "power" buttons all at the same time. This is called in older hacker terms as the three finger salute. :cool: You should now see this: Warning - Minus

Now, hit the up volume button on the Ultra.

Plug your phone into a usb port and I THINK you will see this(Modem number might be different):

Now fire up Odin: Check boxes and version number are wrong in this image

Your COM port number might be different. If you do not see a COM port number then you did something wrong. All check boxes should be checked except Reset Time and Debug Only.

Click OPS button and give it the TransformUltra.ops file

You will be using the One Package button from here on. All you need to do now is put the image you want to flash into One Package, click the Start button, and pray it flashes properly. :eek::rolleyes:

For developers, here is the info:

I have personally tested these Odin ops mappings on my Ultra:
6,boot
7,system
9,data
10,recovery

The rest are unknown so DO NOT try them unless you are brave!

Odin ops file:

0,mibib
1,FSBL
2,OSBL
3,AMSS
4,APPSBL
5,DSP1
6,boot
7,system
8,parameter
9,data
10,recovery
11,misc
12,cache

Note: We think 8 is /cache but this is just a guess.
 
Ultra CWM recovery has a hardware "feature" that causes the phone to reboot after 2 minutes.

  • FIX: Do a restore of a known good backup and recovery will stay up forever after that.
  • FIX: Do a backup of a good booting phone and recovery will stay up forever after that.
  • FIX: Mount the SD card and run rmt_storage from the console.

Flashing an image of /data partition that is smaller than the Ultra stock data partition size cause problems in Odin.

  • FIX: Don't flash a data image! :cool:
  • FIX: Reformat /data in CWM recovery and then flash a known good kernel with Odin
  • Note: I flashed a /data image with Odin that was ~10MB and my data partition was ~10MB but the phone refused to boot to Android and booted instead into CWM recovery. After I reformated /data, the data partition was 1GB but the phone still refused to boot into Android. After trying a few things that failed, I flashed the Ultra OC kernel to /boot using Odin and I got a good boot into Android.

Sweet thanks guys, now all we need is cm7 and the ultra is good to go:). We are way ahead of the Warp and Marquee in both odin and cm7.

I want you all to know that bads3ctor and I spent a lot of hours on this, and bads3ctor put a perfectly good working phone at risk of bricking so that we could figure this stuff out.

We wanted to do this so that the people who have bricked TUs can get their phone back

Thanks for all the countless hours of work you are doing for the community fellas. I've been following your works since the TU was made a section on androidforums. I actually use you guys as an example of the power of the internet when I am working with my IT clients - a few interested technically inclined individuals that have presumably never met before in real life and yet they come together to piece together some incredible releases that benefit the entire community at large.

Keep up the good work guys, and know that your work is much appreciated.
 
Hey, I cant get my ultra to go into download mode it will go in to bootloader mode but my computer want pick it up when it in it running shrvron 5.1 rooted and cmw. Please help.

Hold down "vol down" + "camera" and then power in that order with the phone turned off. It should boot into download mode. If not, pull battery, replace battery, then try again. If this fails a few times then you have real problems.
 
Lol I love the way you go go to a new device and then reckemend boycotting it. I know you did your research. At least al little
 
I haven't been able to download the drivers for the MS Windows. Where do I get them I do have 1 installed but it did not show what u have in the picture provided. Also no luck on the odin. Am I doing something wrong? Have had good luck with the prevail with odin.

The acs root and cwm posts both have driver links on them and samsungs website too but I'm not sure if these are the same drivers.

I put a hint on OP about where to find MS drivers. There are at least 4 different Samsung drivers: Windows XP x86, Windows XP x64, Windows 7 x86, and Windows 7 x64.

We would need the dumps from a sprint rom in order to make odin tars for it. I need someone with a working sprint phone and clockworkmod installed on it to meet me in a chat and I will show them how to do that.

then I would give it to Bads3ctor to post in his op.. pm me if you're a willing sprint user
 
I have a potentially dumb question..

If a user has cwm don't they need root? And if they have root wouldn't their dump also have root? And finally, wouldn't the restore have root making it a non stock restore you can't bring back to samsung?

Edit: ahh I just checked the cwm post and it doesn't mention needing root, I thought it did...

New question: do you need a sprint user that doesn't have root?
 
I do think you need root for cwm...im not 100% sure.
If you restored to stock with root and deleted su than no one would ever know it was rooted.... many people have sent rooted phones to Samsung for reflash/repair and they don't even care to take the time to look... its Easier for them to just plug it in an hit the enter key to start the reflash... people at places like radioshake and best buy don't hook it up yo a computer to see anything... they might try to turn it on but that's about it........


just remove su ( super user ) before you return it if you are scared ... but in 99% of the cases that does not need to be done.

No. You could use Odin to flash CWM and not have root.

No. It would be a stock backup if CWM was flashed through Odin.

No. Not if it was done as described above.
