Help Offical Moment Update

Hahahaha!

You were joking, right?

No. :( :)

this is a technical question and these are technical answers with hopefully enough detail to answer your question.

2) it sounds like you're referencing the recovery.rfs which the "official" update from sprint installs into the bml8 partition.
there is a thread by Zefie discussing this recovery.rfs - What it is and why we do not use it

to put bml8 into perspective, there is a thread discussing the different partitions on the phone here

Cool, thanks for the info. I might go dig my laptop out of the closet and try to handle the update myself.

I have my Moment through my company and our corporate plan, and our Sprint rep had this to say about the update:

" There will be an OTA coming out soon, but in case someone is complaining now, we do have a solution for them."

The "complaining now" bit is about the battery life. And even though it's vague, I would be inclined to believe there is an OTA update coming at some point. It could be another case of a Sprint employee being misinformed, but at least this guy is higher up than a tech.

I haven't taken mine in yet to do the update--last time I called the repair center in Cherry Creek here in Denver, they said there wasn't one available, but that was a couple of weeks ago. I haven't been back or called yet, as that store's customer service is pretty rotten.

No, it didn't take them 3 hours to update it. It took them 3 hours of just chatting in the back and browsing the internet until they felt like working on your phone. They do that crap here in Tally at least, I know this as fact. I've seen the chairs forming a semi-circle facing the TV on the back wall in the back. They just f#ck around back there unless it's really busy. When it's busy (shockingly here, it's the best time) they usually get stuff done faster to get everyone out, I can only imagine why. Took them 15 minutes at 4:30pm on a Saturday to do mine.

Mine and my wife's Moments were updated in 10 min tops total.

All the repair centers around here (upstate SC) keep telling me that the update has been recalled. I've tried talking to three different locations, same response. A guy down in columbia told me he'd do it anyway, but that's a several hour drive, so screw it. If I talk to a sprint rep on the phone, they have no idea that the update was recalled. Amazing.

I'd have done the zephie update a while back, but, of course, I keep having problems getting my computer to see my phone.

I uninstalled every thing on my laptop that was from samsung and installed studio pc. Then connected my phone in download mode and when it didn't install the drivers, I directed it to the studio pc in my program files to find the drivers. They installed and every since I have had no trouble connecting my phone to my pc.

One more note, I had an instinct before the moment and I had software for that installed that I also removed, so if you have anything from a previous phone that was for a samsung, take that off too.

No dice. Even with PC Studio 7, and manually pointing it to the folder, windows still won't recognize the device. I have no idea why.

You can't use version 7. Use version 3.2....I had to uninstall 7 and when I went to reinstall, I installed 3 instead. Worked like a charm for me.

You don't have the right drivers or conflicting drivers if you have a yellow Android Device question mark in device manager in the 'other devices' menu

And reboot PC 1st with Moment NOT connected until Windows is finished loading. Connect Moment to PC USB port with power off than turn Moment on...FWIW

Finally got my phone updated.....they had the first one a few days trying to upgrade it...ended up bricking it. Ordered me a new one and updated that one, took about a day.

Since the update the battery problem seems fixed, phone is alot more responsive but it's still having problems when recieving calls with the screen coming up.

Here I am, almost a month after release of this update. I live in the Las Vegas/Henderson metro area...

I called the customer support number, the first person didn't know squat. Okay, that's the usual thing with tier 1 people. The actual "tech" spent 10min or more to find what this whole update was about and to verify the availability. No go. The tier 1 gal even said the tech could probably send it OTA but the tech couldn't do anything or find anything and I directed him to the press release over the phone!

There's several corporate Sprint stores and full service repair centers here. I've called every one of them several times. The only one that has the equipment to do the update has been "broken" since a week after the update was released. If I don't get that excuse I get told to call or go to another of the stores, which once I do that I'm told they can't do it at those other stores. Friggin' lazy retail employees. I may just have to drop in on a store and wait around and force them to do it.

There's no reason for the update to not be an OTA update. All this hassle to get an, in many minds, essential update for this device by having to go to a repair center staffed by lazy kids. Hell, I'd even opt for a push through PC Studio or something (can I get a link to that, btw? Haven't been able to find a reliable version). I'd prefer not to use the hacked stuff from SDX.

If you actually understood what the update is you would realize there is a damn good reason it is not OTA... Stop assuming anything can be done OTA and start reading...

If you are afraid to use the "hacked" stuff from sdx... I suggest you stop trying to get the update in general because the sdx stuff is identical to the sprint one (even the update procedure is identical) EXCEPT for the SBL (and there is a very good reason we are not updating the SBL)

what page can I find instructions to update it with windows xp
and does it really solve the battery problems?

I am starting to think the versions are dependent on what OS you are running.. Version 3.2 didn't work jack for me on my netbook with windows 7 but version 7 worked great on windows 7... Granted all i was doing was extracting the driver set then removing the program.. But the v3 drivers didn't work on windows 7..
I completely gave up on Sprint. My phone is 100% Zefie

ZE10.3 Kernel is going to have some very exciting upgrades :)

What OS version you using? Also you might have to manually delete all teh drivers (might have a bad one in there)...

Reps don't know jack about the phone.. I would be happy if an OTA was released, because it means there is a backdoor way to flash bml2 and bml8 WITHOUT forcing an Odin update mode... something we have yet to see proof exists... As far was we can see the ONLY way to flash bml2 and bml8 is through odin downloader, which is why it is a "store only" update (the at home offical sprint option would be force boot into downloader mode via adb and then and odin flash.. probably through pc studio... sound familiar?)... the new bml8 tho integrated an actual recovery partition in the phone, so it should make it possible to do bml3,4,5 adn 6 updates OTA in teh future..

I'm on Windows 7 pro at home. I'll dig around some more this evening for drivers that I might have tried and forgotten about.

I do understand what the update is and does. Stop assuming you know everything about a person. The update could be done OTA and could carry a warning about data wipe. Anything CAN be done OTA, but I understand Sprint's reasoning to do so. Their piss poor roll out of the update to repair centers and piss poor roll out of information about the update to their corporate stores is ******ed.

Call me crazy, but I like to have all of the features of my phone available to me. It's not that I'm afraid to use them at all. From what I have read about each hacked together OS and update for the Moment that SDX has put out there's always things missing; some functionality that doesn't work that I use. I'd rather patiently wait for the official updates than use a crippled piece of equipment that I use everyday for business and personal uses.

I walked into my Sprint Repair Center on January 15th ready for the update. Nobody knew anything. I showed them the announcement and the backpedaling began. I gave them a break since it was the first day and opted to lurk on the forums and bide my time. I went back 2 weeks later after the tech said over the phone "we've done a bunch and it'll take 20 minutes".

I sat for 1 1/2 hours until the guy who told me he could fix it approached and wanted to "explain what he did so I could understand". I checked his BS by simply hitting *about phone* and showing that CJ05 was still there instead of the update. He then came clean and said he couldn't fix it. I dressed him down him in front of a co-worker (not yelling or being an @ss about it, but telling him how disappointed I was that the company I have trusted for years would try to pull a fast one on a loyal customer) and then complained to the highest guy on the ladder in the store at the time and he said "give him a new phone".

I got a new one and as they tried to rush me out of the store, I told them to chill until I verified everything was correct and it was an older version of the phone. I came back the next day and got a new phone in the box with all the trimmings and I kept my original 2 gb sd card for the hassle :)

Mind you, this is on the Northwest side of a LARGE metropolitan city WEEKS after the update had been distributed. I can't wait to see how the 2.1 roll out is handled.

Just a third party who uses the phone constantly and uses Zefie's files, I have to ask what they've left out that "cripples" the phone. So far I've noticed nothing missing but having all, if not more, of the benefits.

Seriously not looking for flames, just genuinely curious about what I've overlooked.

/edited for poor grammar

No it cant.. explain how you can flash BML2 and BML8 please if you know that it can be done OTA... We have been looking for a way for atleast a month now, but since you obviously know so much, please tell us cause it would make a lot of our problems go away... Otherwise stop assuming you actually know how the phone works..

P.s. If you don't know what bml2 and bml8 are, let alone how they are coded then you really dont know anything about updating the phone.. Also Zefie's CL14 IS THE OFFICAL RELEASE!

Wow a warning for data wipe...
Why not a warning: If the SBL flash on bml2 is incomplete/interupted/corrupted you phone will never boot up again! you really think they would even release a bml2 flash update ota EVEN IF YOU COULD WRITE TO IT WHICH YOU CANT

I am in the South Houston area. I called the Baybrook store as they have always been really good there. They said that they were unable to do the update because they have had problems with it "messing up" people's phones so the stopped doing it. She did say to wait a month and it will be available over the air(BS). SO I called the Pasadena store on Fairmont Pkwy and they said they can do it and gave me the stock "it will take 2 hours" schpiel. I brought my phone in as well as my wife's and they said it will take 4 hours for both....fine with me...I dropped them off.

I picked them up and all seemed well.

Results:

-The market would not load for the first day. Was gonna take it back if that stayed...but woke up next morning and everything ref market worked fine.

-GPS...I was one of the few where the GPS seemed to work fine. The aGPS ref the towers never did work but if I had Wifi turned on, the aGPS would work very well through them. After the update, if wifi is off, and no GPS signal availble(ie indoors), the aGPS cannot get within 2 miles of me. It places me AT THE POSITION OF THE TOWER with no triangulation. I am still testing and working on it. I am not sure it is working as good as it used to as it takes longer to get a signal outdoors.

-Battery meter...by far the biggest fix of this update. The battery meter works perfectly linearly. I can go a complet day of "my normal usage' and still be at 50% by the end of the day. I would be at 5% and in "degraded" mode by 6pm before this. IT WORKS VERY WELL NOW!!!! My only caution is that when it does get to 5%, it NOW means 5% and it will shutdown a lot quicker than we are accustomed to.

Keyboard lag...fixed!

General...phone does seem to operate more smoothly. Dunno if this is real or percieved but I think it is real.

Overall, very happy. Phone works basically like it should have out of the box.

Has anybody tried to tether since update???? I assume it still works although haven't tried.

That very well could be. I am running vista and ver 7 didn't work at all. I tried and tried with it, then uninstalled any samsung product from my pc then installed 3.2 and connected my phone..when it gave me the disk option, I directed it to the 3.2 install folder in my program files and it worked like a charm connecting. The update, and installing ZE09.2 as well as ZE10.2 all went perfect.

ZE10.3 Kernel is going to have some very exciting upgrades :)

Can't wait, any hints for the us?
