Help Offical Moment Update

Thanks for the info guys! I had to turn off my phone and pull the battery out. I don't know what made it start doing that because I don't have either of that apps that you guys mentioned. I just hope it doesn't come back!

Happened to me when I had wireless locations on.

Even though HTC is th e manufacturer, this doesn't work like other phones... HTC more then likely didn't do crap to the update.. it was all google i bet.. Considering how skilled they are at android (and i damn well hope they are) and the fact they dont have to worry about extensive carrier testing to ensure the update is good (hahaha like that really happens.. the ensure it is good part.. not the extensive testing) it means they can pump nexus updates out faster then most manfuacturers can even get wind there is an issue... And since they can pretty much filter content that has the word nexus in it from the search engine, they should be very aware of any issues.. Like if someone searches google for "Nexus ate my dog".. you can bet someone in mobile development got a copy of that search string (atleast that is how i would implement it.. ok maybe not the random ones, but strings that come up over and over again atleast)...

Not so much upset at the speed of the update as I am about Samsungs inability to come up with even a pc based install much less OTA. Even more miffed at Sprint for not caring enough about the update to have even one repair center up to speed on the update in the NYC area at release, even worse that it took 2 weeks. In the now almost 3 weeks since the updates release, Samsung and Sprint could and should have come up with a better more convenient delivery system. You know, like the one you guys at SDX came up with in a few hours (minutes?) after you got your hands on the update files? I read it that they didn't because they just don't care to put any resources to the task. If this is the way they're going to handle the 2.1 update, expect that after having to once again travel to a service center you will have a vanilla OS with lots of issues that will only be addressed by you over at SDX. Although I blame Sprint for a lot of this, the lions share goes to Samsung. Phones on Sprint like the Pre and the Hero get their updates OTA without a problem, and WM and PalmOS phones have had updates released for PC install for years. Only this smartphone stands alone in needing to go back to the shop for updates. This was my first Samsung phone and they are making a great case right now for it being my last. There's still time to fix the thing, they could come up with a reasonable delivery method for 2.1 and it could be a solid release, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Hey Numus (or Zefie or anyone).. did we lose root with the ZE10 kernel update?? I've tried to do a few things using root since I flashed it and it hasn't worked. I'm using a terminal emulator app on the phone and an app that I have that uses root can't get past the "su" input. I'm pretty new to rooting and all of this, so sorry if I'm just missing something. Also.. in the wiki you talk about ZE10.1 but it's not in the downloads??

i'm able to get su access using the connectbot app with the ZE10 kernel.

are you using the patchoob version or the no patchoob version?
if you've ever had the sprint "official" CL14 update, you need the patchoob version.

Thanks chibucks, I've tried that one and another.. neither worked.. plus my app can't get past that point either.

@joeykrim I'm using the ZE10 patchoob version, although I've never ran the "official" CL14.. just zefie and the gang's.

I think I'll just re-flash everything, maybe try the reg ZE10 and see if the helps or resets something. Thanks guys

Edit: re-flashed using the Regular ZE10 (non-patchoob) and root works.. not sure what the difference is, but I'm good now. Thanks again guys (now I just need to figure out how to REALLY use root and adb shell and all that stuff, so I can use datatool to back-up and everything.. I can follow instructions and make things work.. but would like to know what I'm actually doing.. anyone giving classes?? lol)

on that note... anyone have the original NFL live app in a file I can have?? erased it loading zefie's CL14 and would like to have it for the Superbowl. I've tried several ways to download it from sprint and it just always tells me that I already since it's pre-loaded on my phone and won't give it to me again

Well, I decided to call a few stores here in Georgia to get the update, and to my surprise they told me that they received a memo instructing them to NOT do any more updates. This was yesterday! The reason being is because they are working on something new!!

However, as expected, one of the techs told me that she has a MOMENT and that the cl14 is old and outdated, and CJ05 is the latest, and she is not making this up! lol. She told me that the CL14 was released before the MOMENT was released, and that is why it was outdated, and when the stores received the phone, they all were updated to CJ05, and if there was a new update, it would be OTA.

She then offered me a great opportunity to come in so she can show me what she was talking about by showing me the "About Phone" info. I kindly declined this offer! (I considered going just to have more to post about here, lmao)

My only question at that point was, "Are you guys currently accepting applications"

wow... :) it's amazing how misinformed the "people in the know" are. :) or maybe it's a game to see who can make it onto the message board for the most incompetent rep. :P

i have it... which zefie CL14 did you load up? i had thought that if you didn't delete it yourself, then it'd be there... i could be wrong though. lemme know and i can send it to you (it's only 395kb).

Oh no, no game here, I swear that is what she told me. After the fact, I thought to myself, now, I shouldve recorded that, and youtubed her, and forward that to SPRINT, and tell them that this in not funny!! Its sad, that we have highend phone, and the techs (not their faults) have no clue about nothing because of the madness that is goin on from the upper end of the ladder.

But, If u like, I can call the same store back, record it, and put the link in here for all to take a peek at

Is there any update about the Moment update being released OTA?

My local places still don't have the update, and I don't know if I trust them anyway (last time I got a phone "fixed" there, I left with a nice scratch on my phone that they claimed they didn't do).

I did the rooted firmware update to ze10 and it works great.
It's simple too.

I was going to try that, but I had two issues (one major, one minor, I think)

1) I'm on a Mac (please don't judge me :p)

2) Doesn't the official update repartition some of the internal memory? If so, isn't that somewhat important for future Android updates which may require more space? (Or does the Zelfie method address this too?)

I have three issues.

I'm not smart enough to do the update myself.

I just wanted to post in a twelve page thread.

and I have the insurance and have returned my "scratched" phone twice since I got it. I use the call dropping issue and get them to swap it for a new one.
Time for #3 and get the update.

i got the update 3 days ago im not see that much of a difference in battery life . it is fast typing no lag . wish it would have address the battery better

I don't think it's much of a battery improvement, but rather it reads the battery status a lot better.
I too noticed the lag is almost gone while typing. I didn't have much trouble with the GPS before.
Overall the lag between the screens is almost gone.
The only thing left is to take out the Nuance/Moxier crap software.

thanks for the heads up still new to the android experience . im coming over from crackberry, and pinstack . had a blackberry for 8 years so its a whole different ball game with this os

Thats still a huge improvement on the battery. Just having it read properly. Now i dont drop to under 15% with a dim screen halfway through the day, and I dont drop to dead battery until I am going to bed.

Not bashing what you said..just supporting it in a strange way. :D

this is a technical question and these are technical answers with hopefully enough detail to answer your question.

2) it sounds like you're referencing the recovery.rfs which the "official" update from sprint installs into the bml8 partition.
there is a thread by Zefie discussing this recovery.rfs - What it is and why we do not use it

to put bml8 into perspective, there is a thread discussing the different partitions on the phone here
