Help Offical Moment Update

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum as I just got my Moment today but I've been lurking and reading in preparation of my new phone. I just thought I'd share that my phone came with the updated CL14 software in case anyone is wondering.
Just curious... but do you also have an extra port on the top of the phone next to the headphone jack?

I went by my local store today and was told there was a system wide issue with the system used to install the update. They weren't sure when they would have it fixed. I'm thinking of doing it myself, it doesn't look to hard to me.

By the way, the tech told me there will be a android os update coming in mid feb...I asked if the cl14 update would be a must in order to get the android os update, and he said he was sure it would be. On a side note he said it will be android 2.0...when I said I had heard it would be 2.1, he said he hadn't heard that yet.

Some repair centers say there is no update, others say it was recalled, still others are doing the update and a few even own up to simply not being able to get it to work. From what I've gleened, the update software is a pain in the butt to get working (driver issues?). If the repair center is too lazy or incompetent to get it to work, they sometimes tell the customer a story to get them to go away. The problem is that we have to take the device into a repair center for upgrade in the first place and frankly in 2010 there is no excuse for that. Also, the Sprint store (and every other carrier as well) personnel often know less about things like updates and device release dates than random people passing by the store. Take what he told you with a giant boulder of salt.

ah, thats the store i generally go to! let us know how it goes!

Updated! Gps works, takes about 15 seconds to lock onto my location, keyboard lag is gone, phone seems more responsive over all. Updated at the sprint store on broadway and maiden lane (NOT the repair center on the 21st floor of whatever building that is that is on maiden lane...they still don't know). You have to leave the phone for two hours. All my call history sms and apps restored using the free version of my backup, I will probably get the paid version. Can't give a report on battery life yet.

I guess I am lucky - my local Sprint affiliate did the update with no problem. It was the first Moment they upgraded so it took a little bit. It sounds like going through the process there were several steps requiring multiple buttons to be pressed in different combinations.

got my update today here in san antonio. the rep looked at me like i was stupid when i told her i needed the update. she said "you can do that over the air....", and proceeded to grab my phone and go to "about phone". I looked at her with this dumbfounded look....really? Go get me the tech....

30 minutes later my phone was updated. and thanks to astro file manager, i'm back up and running just like before. seems good thus far, but i need more time to play.

Ill make this as fast as I can. I have been reading on the hero and moment. seems to be issues with the gps on the moment. amoungst other thigs like batt life, keybord delays and a few others. seems like this update cl14 fixes most of everything. I really want 2 know why I should pick the moment over the hero. Im about to buy 1 and i will need to use the nav alot and I do like the slide out keybord and faster cpu. Is the hero as buggy? What really make the functionality of this phone better than the hero? The non-multi touch thing bugs me but ill get over it. please if u guys can give me some good input on how much better your phone is running after this update...Thanks for your time.

Just got my Moment updated. I am also seeing the lack of keyboard lag and other quickened responses others are reporting. For those on this forum in Oklahoma City, the store on S Santa Fe is able to apply the update. 1 hour and I was in and out, no problems. Looking forward to seeing what other improvements (Battery) I find.

I just got the update and my GPS finally works! I'm so happy they fixed that! It also seems to be running a little smoother. There are only two negatives:

1. I had some force closes as I was opening some applications for the first time, but it went away after I re-opened them again.
2. My side camera button doesn't work. Instead of turning on the camera, it goes to email.

Anyone else experience this?

just double checked and my camera button still opens my camera. no idea why it would open email? if you are near by, i'd take it back to the sprint store and show them...that is very odd.

only thing i can think of is the camera application was removed/missing?
i removed the voice command program and now when i press the side button, it takes me to my call history.

Did you install any messaging apps? Some of them hijack the camera button.

Ya! I had just installed ChompSMS.

I tried it again and now it works. Must have been some glitch with the installation.

Not sure about ChompSMS but I had this problem with Handcent. There is an option at the very bottom of the settings within the application where you can select the camera button as a shortcut. I would assume this is what happened to you with Chomp as well. Hopefully you don't have to get rid of the progam all together.

just an update to my previous post. awesome update! the phone is much more responsive and fluid in movement. the battery life is much greater as well. i was on it with heavy use (browsing the net, youtube, and messaging, along with a few phone calls) and by the end of the day I was barely getting to the yellow in my battery power (don't remember what percentage i was at). long story short, had i have done this previous to the update, i would've needed a charge by mid-day.

You want to know what I consider a kick in the sack? The Nexus One got its first update today..unannounced and OTA. They wait a whole 2 weeks, we wait several months and then have to search for a capable repair center. Congratulations on buying the neglected and almost forgotten stepchild of the Android world!

Even though HTC is th e manufacturer, this doesn't work like other phones... HTC more then likely didn't do crap to the update.. it was all google i bet.. Considering how skilled they are at android (and i damn well hope they are) and the fact they dont have to worry about extensive carrier testing to ensure the update is good (hahaha like that really happens.. the ensure it is good part.. not the extensive testing) it means they can pump nexus updates out faster then most manfuacturers can even get wind there is an issue... And since they can pretty much filter content that has the word nexus in it from the search engine, they should be very aware of any issues.. Like if someone searches google for "Nexus ate my dog".. you can bet someone in mobile development got a copy of that search string (atleast that is how i would implement it.. ok maybe not the random ones, but strings that come up over and over again atleast)...

Err...now my phone's screen keeps coming on and off.
mine was doing that the other day after i installed the overclock widget. i removed the widget and restarted the phone and it cleared up.
started flashing again but less frequently and i just re flashed the whole system and it went away. so far so good 4 days later!

I'm in San Antonio, and I've been considering doing this update, but one of my concerns was if the repair center would be able to do it.
Can you please tell me which Sprint RC in San Antonio you went to?
Thanks.

Err...now my phone's screen keeps coming on and off.
My phone started doing that relentlessly the other day after I installed the app "Settings Profiles" (a competitor of Locale). I uninstalled the program and the flashing stopped.:) Hope that applies to you.

Thanks for the info guys! I had to turn off my phone and pull the battery out. I don't know what made it start doing that because I don't have either of that apps that you guys mentioned. I just hope it doesn't come back!

WOW! I cant beieve how many issues you guys are having with this phone. Oh and pasta....the way your answerd me shows me how much of a head ache this phone has caused you. I will get a hero or wait for the nexus1 to come out in a few months. i really dont feel like dealing with all this crap with this phone..thanks for the help to everyone...( now ill wait for the bash back..im suresome1 doesnt like me now..oh well)

Dude - the PHONE rules. The issues people have had with the update are Sprint related.

Post the update, the phone runs like a champ.

the issues being reported here are usually the above average users who are messing with the phone. some change things to a greater degree than others.
either way, for the average person, with the CL14 update, the phone runs great. just keep in mind, if the first time you were to meet people was at the hospital, you might think all people are sick. gotta put the sample selection in proportion to the real population!
im sure the hero and/or nexus one are great phones too, but i have to have a physical keyboard.
