Nowadays our, "phones," aren't just phones anymore. They're becoming less and less like phones and more like incredible multimedia devices. I barely even talk on the phone much, but I really want this thing.

I guess people just get attached. :P I know I sure do.

Hey, I won't begrudge someone getting attached to their phone. I am just saying, that in my opinion, depression and nightmares are a bit much and at the very least, are a little over dramatic.

Well, even if Motorola or Verizon said that it would be here by August, it doesn't really matter much at this point. From the looks of things, it's now going to be by September, so we're all going to have to wait until then unless they decide to change things.

Sometimes things get pushed back, and sometimes the situation changes for the better and we get things early. Regardless of when it happens, the fact remains that it will happen.

I think they were exaggerating when they spoke about nightmares, but depression isn't too far off. I know that my current situation in regards to a Droid X is definitely causing me plenty of stress. I'm currently stuck with an LG Ally because my dad rushed me into getting it. We're trying to grab a Droid X, but he won't have the money until the 11th. Even when he gets the money, the estimated shipping date, as well as the actual shipping date, will most likely be set at a much later date than it is right now.

I'm sitting here with nothing to do but re-download previously owned PSX ROMs for when I get my Droid, and watch SyFy episodes that I missed the other night. I'm still dyin' ovah here. :(

Agreed. However, drama queens exist in this world. Now some of them have a Droid X.

When it comes to Froyo, I am the conspiracy theorist guy. LOL! I do feel it is already available, but they are delaying the release until after the Droid 2 has its moment in the sun during its release. It just comes down to Motorola's strategy to release products. The DX & D2 are both very similar aside from the keyboard & HDMI out, so I have to believe that Motorola's developers are (hopefully) talented enough to make 2.2 compatible with both. :) So hey, what's a few weeks to wait, it's not that bad.

I wouldn't be so hung ho about it offI was you guys. I have an Evo and many of us wish we had stayed with2.1. My wife has anEvo and my parents both have Xs. I can say without a doubt ask three phones run better than my Evo with 2.2.

If your phone doesn't run as well on a certain firmware, you can always try downgrading. I know for a fact that my LG Ally doesn't run well at all on 2.1 V8, but if I load V6 or the leaked V9 onto it, it responds extremely well.

This is bull. They lock the phone down and feed us the updates many months late. I'll probably just return my Droid X and get whatever's next from HTC.

How is September, "many months late,"? I don't understand what you mean by locking the phones down.

You'd return your Droid X just because of a slow-to-release firmware update? Why? I don't think much of the Droid X's stock UI or anything, but I don't think that it's quite that bad. Do you?

Many months, as in, Froyo was released in May - over a month before the Droid X was even announced. September would mean the update comes to a brand new phone 5 months after being released by Google.

I'm already sick of having the phone "locked down" - as in, we can't put stock android on the device. Only the customized version of Android for Droid X. Countless numbers of useless apps are running in the background (motoblur??) and don't forget that stupid CityID application which pops up notifications after every few calls... I've only had my Droid X for a week and it's notified me 3 times asking me to buy it. I can't even uninstall it!!!!

I love the phone, but I hate that we're a bunch of mice being fed by the one big hand... that's why I didn't get an iPhone.

From my jaundice point of view... They delayed the 2.2 update in order to write in a work around to keep the current Root method from happening again. You know damn well they have someone reading what is going on with the DEV end of things. If they didnt give a tinkers damn about the hacking they wouldnt have bothered with the boot loader deal to start with and left it wide open like all the others. This is why I have not rooted either of our phones yet. Verizon is a bunch of evil greedy bastards and had some other company come out with a better phone AND better coverage for my area id rather gone with them. I wouldnt be surprised if those who have rooted find it difficult to update to 2.2.

Just my point of view...

I personally think that all of you bitching about not having the update for the X within a months time are a bunch of whiners. I don't really see what's so great about this update to have everyone bitching so much.

Sure it adds some cool features like to download straight to your sd, but after putting it on my wife's Droid there aren't any apps that support it right now anyways...

Now I could maybe see if there was some major problems with the X that had to be solved, but that is not the case.

We will get this update when they see fit, and if it's another month then ohhwell....We should be getting 3.0 this winter anyways right?? Isn't that supposed to be more fantastic than 2.2?

No. 3.0 will be released near the end of Q4 - probably Nov/Dec. At this rate, that means we'll see it on our Droid X maybe in May 2011....

But here's why we are whining: This was google's job. Google created Android, and they did a superb version building 2.2. Now, rather than getting that update, we're waiting an additional 5 months to get Motorola's version - filled with bloatware, trails, and features removed. And we can't remove or disable any of these preinstalled apps.

The only thing that bothers me is that Droid received/is receiving 2.2 before any other Androids on Verizon... it's listed as an "End of Life" device.

The Droid getting 2.2 yes .....but that should bode well for anyone who buys Moto..... Realize that even older devices get some love ....also the Droid is a flagship device ..... another thing is from my experience working on Linux boxes (servers) the OS's are custom builds meaning the Hardware manufacturers have a great deal of control over FROYO ........

I know the feeling but you have to realize although us Droid X users are part of the great Android ecosystem .....Moto has to compete in the smartphone market against HTC and Samsung meaning their OS builds have to be unique and savvy .....as android grows the Hardware manufacturers are going put more restrictions on their builds .....

Yeah well, I think that Google needs to start putting restrictions on the restrictions that the manufacturers can set. :> Take that, Motorola. :D

Just return your phone & get something else.. then go whine on that forum.

He doesn't have a problem with the phone. He feels there's a problem with some of the software that's running on it. I don't see why one would completely exchange the phone for another simply because the firmware that it's running seems a bit lacking. Especially when there's going to be an upgrade soon.

Why is everyone pressuring? It will get here when it gets here. I want a complete, stable, smooth build so I will be waiting patiently.

And as stated it seems it will be right on schedule.

I agree. Froyo is not that much better, it's a small upgrade in my opinion (I tried it out on a co-workers Droid). It will come when it comes and actually I would rather them take longer and get it right.

seriously the phone is running GREAT right now, I can wait 6 more months if needed. I may not even update to froyo right away, I may sit back and see every else's comments on it before I hit the button.

I'm depressed too. Coming from a blackberry storm, this is starting to look very familiar. A software update within days of the intial release and new OS's getting pushed back with glitches. I'm starting to have nightmares again. Don't get me wrong, this phone is light years above and beyond the storm. I guess my mentality when purchasing a new phone needs to be that I need to be prepared to live with the phone that comes straight out of the box until the end of its "life cycle".

LOL yeah I am coming from a Storm also, but the X blows the Storm out of the water even with the glitches.
