sounds like you need to apply for a job at motorola. mabye chief engineer or ceo.

Maybe I would like to seem one of them explain how they can complete a whole different phone is less time than it takes to complete a software update.Do you really believe they can design build and ship a phone with Froyo on it in less time than it takes to complete Froyo for the Droid X.A new phone is not designed and put into production overnight.
Mustang vs. Camaro fight!!!

Seriously though, ZX is right on the money. You may not like the answer, but either way you are going to have to live with September.

My primary concern is that if it's taking this long to work out bugs on a brand new phone...I can only fathom the wait we'll have once the DX becomes long in the tooth. Toast to the original Droid anyone?

*Edit* also, correct me if I'm wrong, but 2.2 brings the capability of flash, but wasn't Adobe going to issue an update separate from 2.2 or am I misinformed?

Another month is not a big deal. Y'all need to relax. You've never had flash, and now it is only a month away. You'll live. Just enjoy the sick phone you have right now.

Also I don't buy the whole they're holding back to boost Droid 2 sales theory. If you're the kind of person who cares about getting 2.2, you also know that the DX is getting the update soon. Are you really going to buy the Droid 2 just because you can't wait another month? No. You either chose the Droid 2 because of the physical keyboard or some other feature, or you want the DX because of the screen, camera, etc. Both phones will have 2.2 by the end of September, so there's no way that having Froyo postponed on the DX would boost sales for the D2. Your theory just doesn't add up.

I'm depressed too. Coming from a blackberry storm, this is starting to look very familiar. A software update within days of the intial release and new OS's getting pushed back with glitches. I'm starting to have nightmares again. Don't get me wrong, this phone is light years above and beyond the storm. I guess my mentality when purchasing a new phone needs to be that I need to be prepared to live with the phone that comes straight out of the box until the end of its "life cycle".

Depression and nightmares!?!?!?!? Over a phone!?!?!?!? Man, I guess I just don't understand the emotions people assign to... a phone. Much less an update that is on schedule for late summer. I have to assume yinz are exaggerating, otherwise it might be worth while seeking some help. Just sayin.

I think some people need to get out of the house more :p

I thought that was the big thing with froyo was that it was an update coming out with flash...If its been covered in another thread sorry, but what exactly is froyo updating??

froyo is bringing the ABILITY to use flash 10.1. It is also bringing, the new Dlavik JIT compiler which makes everything run faster and more efficiently. I'm sure there will be a few more nips/tucks and tweaks to the OS but those are the two main ones.

I believe they stated it would be out late August at the press conference where they unveiled the X.

There is a critical component perhaps not being considered. The Droid 2 has been marketed as having Flash player functionality and being the first Verizon phone to come with Android 2.2. Because of this a delay in Froyo for the Droid 2 essentially means a delay in releasing the phone, which would equate to lost sales.

And once the Droid X and Incredible have Froyo updates available it seems reasonable to assume that they will start being shipped with Froyo. If so, the window of the Droid 2 being the only phone shipping with Android 2.2 would be dependent upon when the Droid X or the Incredible start shipping with Android 2.2. As you say, the Droid X was released with Android 2.1 and people that want the DX for other reasons will probably wait, so a reasonable delay in Froyo for the DX will probably not hurt Droid X sales. But that time period between when the Droid 2 is released and the Droid X starts shipping with Froyo may be the only time that the Droid 2 is indeed the only Verizon phone shipping with Android 2.2, a cornerstone of the Droid 2 marketing.

Perhaps someone can offer some other logic behind being able to release the Droid 2 with Android 2.2 next week but not releasing Froyo for the Droid X for a month or so after that. The two phones are very similar and the Exchange sync and notification issues being discussed where the September date was mentioned for the Droid X would seem likely to apply to both phones. Are there other known factors that would require an additional month to have Froyo for the Droid X?

Nowadays our, "phones," aren't just phones anymore. They're becoming less and less like phones and more like incredible multimedia devices. I barely even talk on the phone much, but I really want this thing.

I guess people just get attached. :P I know I sure do.
