Nobody is getting crucified, but the penchant for over reacting and the need for instant gratification doesn't make for a coddling environment either.

September sounds about right. I have a friend that works at motorola, and he claims that he has been field testing an X with froyo and its still pretty buggy. At this time, he says like 5 weeks before it will be ready to roll. He has been feeding me info for sometime, and was right on the money when froyo hit for the first droid. So guess probably mid september for an official froyo on the X. And that would be a select few to start with to boot.

you MUST DO EVERYTHING HUMANLY POSSIBLE to convince your friend to leak Froyo to us.

Make Haste!!

Its too buggy at this point is what has been said. Not worth using yet.

:(

forgot froyo, he needs to get his hands on an engineering ROM with the encryption keys for the bootloader. That way we can really ROOT this thing and get custom ROMS!

not sure why everyone is surprised about this - honestly, "end of summer" and "Verizon" never had a shot at August

sorry, it's the truth

No where do I see the new video recording stereo audio update mentioned. Crap if the update is now Sept.. I was hoping for it today.

My money is on Droid X getting 2.2 either on day Droid 2 is released or right around there, at least a definite release date.
I agree that the D2 release may be a good indicator. The Droid 2 seemed to have a pretty well confirmed 8/12 release date with pre-sale and phones getting to stores the couple of days before that. But the Droid 2 release seems strongly dependent on having a stable, bug free version of Froyo for it.

Since the D2 and DX have so much in common, I don't see their being a month required between the Droid 2 being released with Android 2.2 and the Droid X getting an update for it. Whether that means the Droid X getting a Froyo update sooner or the Droid 2 being released later apparently remains to be seen.

Ugh... I just wish I could get Vanilla Android on the DX. I can't stand Moto's bullshit soft... Blur... or... not Blur... whatever they want to call it at this point.

But Froyo does look sweet. (Literally?)

This is laughable. It's to buggy to work on the X, but yet it is on a phone that they are going to start selling with the same processor, memory, skin and os in less than a week. What kind of sense does that make.I know physical key board, lower mega pixel camera and hdmi port. All very minor difference in the big picture.Yet it's so buggy on the X it can't even be used.Must be some major flaws with the X if this is the case.

Maybe I would like to seem one of them explain how they can complete a whole different phone is less time than it takes to complete a software update.Do you really believe they can design build and ship a phone with Froyo on it in less time than it takes to complete Froyo for the Droid X.A new phone is not designed and put into production overnight.
