this is what that said about the Eris leaks as well. And it didn't happen. I was fully aware of that when I installed the leak. Everyone else should be as well.

Wasn't that because of the third leak? I always thought because the last leak was the same as the final one being OTA. I installed the 3rd leak and then sold my phone so I never checked up on it.

I installed the update, and I guess I was expecting a "Vista to Win7" leap in the underlying system.

We got flash. Hooray, now I can view more web ads, or play more bejeweled quality games.

Gallery got an overhaul, which is nice.

Everyone seems to be crapping their pants over being able to mush a finger against the screen to take pictures. As someone with a real camera, I'm used to half pressing shutters to lock focus anyway, and was still using the hardware button.

I seemed to have way more instances of 'wake my phone back up, and have it just there with no icons on the screen for 5 seconds' though. Is no one else having little quirks like these? Overall, maybe the benchmark scores were 200 arbitrary points higher, but the phone in general didn't seem as stable ... and this is a phone. When I wanted to place a call, I'd be standing around waiting for it to work.

I reckon it'll get hinky when the OTA is finally ready (see Eris early leakers). I went ahead and went back to 2.1, rerooted, and restored my Koush backup, and began getting weird errors saying my Moto Blur Service password was incorrect. It took a full wipe and manual updating/downloading of each app to get back to where I was, which is where I'll stay for a while.

I know this thread will just get crapped on, but is anyone else really underwhelmed with 2.2, and went back to 2.1? Was it a smooth process? It took a while for me, and that Koush thing I paid two bucks for didn't make it as clean as restoring NANDROIDs used to be on my Eris.

Remember this is the unofficial release...the official will be similar but also improved over this, I woud imagine.

Mine is more fluid and I am enjoying a lot more. The speaker volume being higher alone is a huge win for many! And keep in mind that dead camera pixels and other issues that were caused by the last update are being fixed with this one. So although that doesn't effect everyone, those that are getting this fixed are doing cartwheels :)

I do have dead pixels in the camera APP, but not on the actual outputted photos. To be honest I didn't check in the 2.2 app removed those or not.

In general, I just felt like especially waking up from sleep (going from blank screen, to being able to start doing things) lagged badly, but maybe I didn't give it enough time to build up its caches... I had it on there for a day.

I was disappointed in the following:
- While I have noticed speed improvements in the home-screen/app-drawer, the unlock screen still isn't smooth.
- The browser seems to be more fully featured, but (perhaps as a result of being so) is noticeably jerkier on nearly all sites.

Exactly!!!

THis of course is an unofficial and still has yet to be finalized version of Froyo. Why do you think it hasn't been released yet? I'm sure Moto/Google is hard at work at ironing out as many bugs to prep it for a release.

Than people begin to wonder/create 40+ threads, why they are experiencing so many bugs.

Still waiting on my DroidX, but I know on my Nexus One... upgrading to 2.2 from 2.1 I had a noticeable increase in performance in every day use. Just a smoother and quicker experience, and a few upgrades here and there, but the biggest thing was overall useability...

Please tell me what they did to the Test Message screens? You can not differentiate between sent and received messages! This wash out baby blue is ridiculous! Can I change the background screen?

disable the lock screen altogether. If i turn my phone on, I want it on, not ready to be unlocked.

That's what I did, boom phone is on. No swiping or BS. Think about it, is your phone really that likely to hit the home or power buttons in your pocket anyway? Not mine.

When I first installed 2.2 my phone was slower than crap for about an hour while it was "syncing." I was very close to doing what the OP did (factory reset etc.) and then the phone started working properly.

Then, the Marketplace didn't work, which I read was common among early 2.2 leakers. Left the phone on over night and in the morning the market worked again.

One thing that is bugging the hell out of me now is that when i open an email it goes into landscape mode automatically. It was not doing this before the update.

I've been intending to exchange my Droid X for an Incredible, but the froyo pull was too great and I installed it yesterday. I also received word that Incredible would be in stock soon.

Have I voided my warranty? I am not rooted.

they'll never even notice. dont even worry about it. i would flash the .sbf, but if you dont know how, or dont know what that means, i wouldnt even worry about it.
plus, it doesnt matter if you voided your warranty. you have a 30 day guarantee. they'll still take it back.
even if you root a phone, you can tell them it's rooted, return it within 30 days, and they'll still take it back.

I wouldn't take bets on someone not noticing! If Motorola has taken notice of the 2.2 leak then you can bet that VZW also knows about it. Will they check the returned phones? Maybe... but then again maybe not! If, however, they do then it could come back to haunt you.

Verizon's 30 day money back guarantee is a nice thing... but I have my doubts that they'd let you return a broken phone without penalty during that 30 day window. For this reason I also doubt that they'd look kindly to you tinkering with the firmware on the phone since they can no longer simply return it to stock as a FRU. In this case they will have to re-flash the phone and test it before returning it to stock. A minor added step... but one that'll take extra time and labor to accomplish. Time = Money = less Profit to companies like Verizon and Motorola.

And while I agree that the extra time needed to reflash the phone is likely no more than about 15 minutes... Multiply 15 minutes times the theoretical 5000 potential bricked phones and you get over 1200 hours of labor. Not quite so insignificant now...

Haven't noticed any speed improvements, but no downgrade either. I do like the new camera controls (am an avid amateur photographer) and I do like auto sync in Market.

Although this is a leaked release, the actual release won't be too far from this. All the major components are there, the official will just be more refined.

Wouldn't Verizon just reflash the phones to stock anyways? It seems like a logical step for all returned phones.

That's the 54 million dollar question... would they?

Given some of the FRU phones I've received from Verizon over the years I have my doubts! I've also seen some reports of people receiving replacement phones from Verizon that had p0rn loaded on them. That, to me, indicates that they may not reflash them... and if they do, they may only reflash some phones.

EDIT: Here is but one example of Verizon refurbishing phones without reflashes:

I have to admit that I am also underwhelmed with Froyo.

There are some improvements, but there are also some quirks.

If I had it to do over again... I wouldn't!

There are only a few things that are bothering me with the update.

1. Regular wallpapers seem to flicker when switching between home screens. I'm not using LP either. Live wallpapers don't seem to have this issue.

2. When in "Contacts", if I choose "Display Group" all I get is a little window that says "Show". If I reboot, it fixes it.

3. Sometimes the browser really gets slow now. If I'm on the home screen and select the browser icon, it can take up to 5 seconds before the browser opens. It may have something to do with flash.

If you guys are having trouble with browser speed, set the plugins setting to "on demand". This prevents Flash from loading until you click on a Flash element. You should notice a big increase in speed for sites that have a lot of Flash advertisements.

I'm happy to have it. I knew from all the things I've read that it wasn't a huge leap. Mostly minor cosmetic changes and bug fixes. So far I can't really say anything bad about it. It seems like all I've really seen are improvements, and they are welcome. They keyboard seems easier to type on, I like the less haptic feedback, the larger spacebar and the auto capitalization of the letter I. The GPS stay awake bug has also been fixed.

The one "bad" thing I've noticed is something weird going on with the time and Text Messages. If you're using the stock messaging program it isn't really noticed but with ChompSMS it's showing the correct time for my outgoing messages but the incoming messages are showing a time of 4 hours earlier which causes the incoming messages to be shown before the outgoing messages and hard to find. I'm not too worried about it though, it'll be fixed. I'm sure ChompSMS and the others will fix this bug, or it could also be a bug with out "unofficial" version that will be fixed.
