I'm not 100% sure, but after I downloaded Flash 10.1 I was able to see animated gifs in the browser. This is on the original MOTO droid though, so i'm not sure if that is an issue.

no clue. does the phone seem to be running slower?
here's my latest benchmark.

Hey, you guys seem to be trying to get fast quadrant scores. If your goal is to have the fastest android phone, you should probably return the DroidX and wait for the Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate.

Androidandme and the Developer of Quadrant benchmarking app, have both confirmed the Samsung Galaxy S phones have the fastest GPU and CPU.
If you are running the free standard Quadrant you will be tricked into thinking the DroidX is faster, you need the professional version $24.99 to see that Samsung Galaxy S phones are truely faster. You can watch the video below, at 8:33 they confirm the Samsung Galaxy S is faster. You can also visit their website to see the full results with graphs, which shows the Samsung Galaxy S phones coming ahead. The only area that DroidX is faster, is in I/O, which gave an inflated quadrant free edition score. However, the Samsung Galaxy S phones have shown that with the I/O fix that many users are using, Galaxy S blows away the competition in every benchmark.

Spectacular! I bet it has great "Troll Droid X Forums" scores too!

Are you sure you were seeing animated GIFs and not Flash animations?

yeah, i am a member on some pretty nerdy message boards, and a few of them have "best animated .gifs" threads each month. I have been able to view and post .gifs since I got 2.2.

It probably doesn't have anything to do with Flash, could be the way the browsers are different from original droid to droid x? i dunno

This is exactly how I'm thinking right now.

I can't wait to hear about some bug in the leaked update, and then that the fix will come a month after the official 2.2 ota.

Idk, I'm just a pessimist. Maybe I'll make the jump tomorrow if things keeping looking up.

The update works fine, but there are some bugs....namely it seems we can't find any app that has copy protection in the app store, and a few others. For instance, I can't find LogMeIn Ignition to buy/download. Even the flash update....AppBrain shows that I need the update, but when I click it, it says it can't find the app in the store. (Note, the flash that comes in the 2.2 update does work great....just can't get what appbrain says is an update).

For me, this is a big deal breaker and I might go back to 2.1. There is a posted "fix" of the issue...but it requires being rooted to do it (basically it fools the app store into thinking you're running a different phone). Maybe once 2.2 is officially available for the X, this problem will go away.

I bet it is the DX. I have a replacement DX and my original (with a little screen problem but otherwise functional). I updated one to Froyo clean, right out of the box from Verizon (after rooting). Market worked for about an hour and then stopped. The DX still on 2.1 reaches the market over WiFi without a problem.

I did a factory reset of the Froyo DX and after the reset it was still unable to reach the market (same network server error). After restoring the device with Titanium Backup, everything works except market.

I have also tried the AppBrain solution, downloading an app with appbrain and the market problem did not go away.

Other devices may have this problem, but i can say with some certainty that two identically configured devices running 2.1 and 2.2 behave very differently with the 2.1 device having no issues.

Lastly, if it helps anyone sort this out, immediately after the 2.2 update on the new DX the market didn't work, but that was solved by simply opening up the browser, closing the browser and going back to the market - so i chalked it up to a data connection issue.

I hope someone can figure this out and fix it since losing the market is not the best tradeoff for having froyo...

I retract my statement above. Late last night and early this AM the market works fine on both the 2.2 and the 2.1 DXs. Many others were correct in thinking this was a market issue (that unhappily coincided with some of our froyo updates)

Gifs work for me.
I went to a gif site, clicked on a gif, it loaded and looped gif playback in the browser.
You can also press and hold on gif and select save link., the browser will then download and save gif.
The X itself supported gifs in 2.1, as long as you downloaded the gif file. (Not directly in browser)

haha. I think I am going to wait too, too many things can go wrong, its just not worth it.

what can go wrong? one click root, get the bootstrap from the market, download the file modified by koush to work with bootstrap. bootstrap it and flash in recovery. it took me ten minutes. watched family guy on the way to work yesterday on fox.com.. to me thats well worth it.:)

Just bench marked mine and i am @ 1364 Did not clear any running programs before running. I am rooted and have renamed some of the bloatware files. I did play around with it earlier and got a 2230 but then i changed it back.

Make sure you DO NOT install Koushs recovery it will send the phone to BOOT LOOP land

Wow thank you for your complete fail and lack of understanding. Yes that recovery will put your phone into a boot loop... but if you simply boot into recovery and clear the cache and wipe user data it then starts without issue.

We seriously need an option to give a thumbs down for geniuses like this guy so people in future threads will know not to listen to them.

this was super easy, did it this morning, took about 5 mins. was already rooted via 1 click, upgraded, still rooted. 1373 quadrant. flash, speed. awesome. custom status bar already done over at xda. mydroid world received a c&d. better grab the files while they last!!!!!

Just curious...im really new at the whole android thing and pretty dumb to what all i can do with root...

but yesterday i rooted my phone and manually updated to froyo...havent taken any applications off or anything but my phone seems to be a little more buggy now with froyo while i had no problems at all before

just curious if i will still get the finalized froyo OTA even though ive done all these things to my phone?

I am wondering if anybody has went back to 2.1 after using the leaked 2.2. I am asking because I have, I think I am just gonna wait for the OTA update. I hope that the leaked version is an older build because it just didnt seem that good, it had alot of issues and bugs. Overall I liked 2.2 new features, but my main proble was no mototourch support, and my market didn't work :(

Are you sure?

I thought I read that once Froyo has been officially release, you will need to revert back to 2.1 stock (this includes installing any and all bloatware you may have removed since rooting).

Yet another reason why I'm in no rush...

Nobody will know for sure yet Jubba. As you may have read on the forums, many Eris users are warning that they couldn't update after installing a leaked copy. However, we can't really base our situation on that because Motorola is an entirely different company than HTC... so who knows what will happen! ;) But you won't be alone, that's for sure!

We're bound to find out before too long :D

At worst, we'll have to flash SBF and have a do-over.
At second worst, we'll be able to manually apply the new update.zip.

No biggie. The only tricky part will be keeping root through all of it I think.

I've been intending to exchange my Droid X for an Incredible, but the froyo pull was too great and I installed it yesterday. I also received word that Incredible would be in stock soon.

Have I voided my warranty? I am not rooted.
