...and 10 minutes later : "Congratulations! Your phone has been updated successfully to version 2.09.405.8" :D

Now lets see....

i downloaded what appears to be an official HTC update package from htc.com, copied it over to my phone but how can i initiate the update process?

Hi I have an orange phone that I debranded. When I check for updates I get told that 1.15.405.4 is available, I this what I need to download?

To somebody who said the HTC_IME keyboard doesn't work any more, it does. You just need to update it to the 2.2 version. A lifesaver - I can't cope with the little popup that follows you around highlighting the keys you've pressed on the default keyboard.

Anyone tried this?
[ROM] Official 2.2, with: busybox, old A2SD+, OpenVPN (TUN), EXT4 support, 802.11N - xda-developers

It's (apparently) HTC 2.2 rooted with some extras, so I assume Sense etc is there too. It uses the old Apps2SD method which I'm not sure about. I know it's better in that app devs don't need to enable it, but I'd like to return to non-rooted Android if possible so I can install updates/etc no worries. I only really use root for Apps2SD on 2.1.

EDIT: Ha, just got beaten to it. Very l33t celticone (get it? The post number? oh never mind)

Thanks. Could you post a link to it please :)

I'll have a proper catch up with this thread shortly.

Am I right in thinking that handsets received direct from T-Mobile are still to receive the update?

This happened to me too, after fiddling with it a bit i realized my access point wasnt selected, so you need to go to:

Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > select the Radio button next to your access point (note if you press on it you will be taken to the ap settings).

So make sure there is a little green dot next to your access point.

Brilliant - thanks

orange branded desire. Not happy!!!

Not sure how long it will take orange to pull their finger out and complete their crapware rom.

I'm very tempted to de-brand my phone but not entirely sure what i'm doing!

In fairness to Orange - they would only get it today too from HTC then have to add their branding crap - same as t-mobile etc

ok im trying to install the update manually, but i get error

E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

I have a tMobile Desire which i debranded (the one that got all the problems with the last small update).

Im not seeing the update yet. Only giving me the update that gave me no wireless before (1.21.405.2)
