Okay I understand. So my better judgement tells me to stick with icarus until they make a mod of 2.2 after it comes out. The manufacturer is always going to limit. All technology is such. Have you any idea the mods you can put on gaming consoles? It's like woah. Lol

Good decision. Icarus is nice and safe and no issues.

My phone has been stuck on the boot screen for about 25 minutes. I am starting to panic. Is this normal? Should I disconnect the usb cable?

I think (hope) we have this taken care of now.

I KNOW right (Though it's a boyfriend in my case, He gets sick of be phone bragging)! Seriously my only downside is that I kill my battery. It's because I can't put the darn phone down now. I'm like "Downloading E V E R Y T H I N G", LOL. It takes like seconds to download an app now compared with before. Plus the way my home screens and app drawer fling around like ninjas, Man..Seriously there is like nothing bad about this at all for me. ^_^

My phone is growing on me...literally!!! hahaha Like a parasite!!!

Once they get the official 2.2 out, I'm sure there will be another custom rom based off it. This will be less buggy and more stable as they've got the ACTUAL 2.2 that is meant for the phone to base it off of (Instead of basing it off another phones Froyo). I'm actually really excited now about trying all these new things. Technology is addicting isn't it?

I honestly don't know if anyone will be working on it then. They will have probably moved on to bigger and better things. We need to all start looking for phones we all like.....so we can move on and up together. LOL

The downside or bad side effect is all the time you will spend using the phone with all the cool new features and speed it will have, Girlfriend is pissed i don't answer any calls when i am playing on my phone

The data issue is due to my service provider. Also, The MMS was fixed for me. My market works fine. I download stuff like mad. Then again, As with even the stock one there are going to be times of force closures. Icarus is based off Eclair. No matter how great it is, There will still be the same kind of issues you'd have if you were stock. No rom is going to be a "Magical fix all" rom. LOL. You've just got to enjoy the fact that Icarus does run smoother, Faster and is memory efficient. Oh and it also looks farking awesome. XD

I just don't see it being faster than what people will make as far as roms go. I also don't want to have to deal with all the bloatware again. The hardware in this phone is only so capable. No amount of updates is going to make it something it isn't. So far Icarus has made my phone the most efficient I think it can be.

Here are the cool features I like:
The see through notification bar.
The green theme, With the battery positioned vertical instead of horizontal.
The unlock/volume off sliders are smaller, Less lag.
The menu loads more quickly, I so far haven't had any time where it has to "Load the app picture".
Apps2SD, this is very good for effectively keeping your phone with more internal memory. I have almost twice what I had previously and I have MORE apps now.
As I'd stated, No bloatware.
This rom comes with it's own darn wallpaper, Cool ones at that.
I have 1x, Metro, So I have noticed my webpages and youtube load faster when I'm not using wifi.
The boot up screen is adorable, Plus the time it takes to start up is almost cut in half (For me at least).
OH and my apps load up so fast it's like a ninja is playing in my Ascend. Even with rooted and overclocked stock, It's nothing like Icarus.

My opinions of course. ^^.

I so want Apps2SD but as I understand it ... it doesn't work with the stock Ascend but will once 2.2 comes out (or if you install Icarus).

And yes technology is amazing and addicting. I've done things with this phone I never even thought were possible heh

I should point out this is my first smart phone and really my first 'complicated' cell phone. The only cell phone I had prior to this was a very basic TracFone which was VERY basic.

Agreed. It is quite addicting. Especially something so new, like phones. I do know, no matter what happens, I won't be using stock anymore. It is just always going to have complications that a freelance designer will override. I can't wait to get icarus and root my phone. I just made a big sale so ill be putting some if it towards the pro versions of some of the apps that are needed. I cant wait. >_<

Seriously, Almost all of us are using Icarus 1.1 now. LOL It's so fast you'd think that some tiny microscopic power suddenly erupted from within your motherboard. (A phone has a motherboard doesn't it?) Just sayin...XD

Not trying to put down the official 2.2 update but, I still think it's not ever going to compare to the ones that people custom make. Not saying you shouldn't wait but...Well...Very few of us have!

I'll try the upgrade when it comes out but I'll probably switch back until there is an Icarus 2.0 or something similar.

I installed it yesterday and am VERY satisfied with it. The speed is just incredible! It's a huge improvement.

Hey Andy! Doesn't take long to become an expert here on this forum does it? LOL I got my Ascend when they first came out and I think I rooted it the first week after I found this forum. We all kind learned together. It's been so much fun! LOL Good luck on Icarus! You will love it!

I'm not an expert here yet. Just a guy with "some" computer and electronics knowledge (Okay it's what I do for a living) and learning to apply it to the phone.

The Icarus install went quicker than I planned and I'm very happy with it.

I was gonna do this but september beat me to it!

I so want Apps2SD but as I understand it ... it doesn't work with the stock Ascend but will once 2.2 comes out (or if you install Icarus).

So I've been following this thread (and others) on AF since I bought my wife a new Ascend (Metro) and I have to say it was been very helpful to an Android novice. So far I have successfully been able to root her phone and get rid of some bloatware and have been waiting (not so patiently) for the 2.2 upgrade. After hearing all of u rave about Icarus though, you have me convinced that I should install this on my wife's Ascend... Especially since I am tired of hearing her complain of the speed - or lack thereof. The one question I have is whether the contacts will be lost if I install it, or what I need to do so that I don't have to manually input her contacts again bc that was a real pain. Thanks again for all of your help because I'm sure there are countless people like me who follow AF incognito and have been helped by the useful info given.

Welcome to the forums!

Log on her Gmail account via the web, then select the link for Contacts - ensure hers are there.

If not, the helpful gang here can help with the steps and config options to upload them.

With your calendar and contacts on Google's cloud you can swap devices and never worry.
