[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

so im guessing tomorrow we will be getting our texts from metro with an update link rather then a warning about payments and super duper spectacular deals they are having

I just went to metro the guy said within a week or 2 week after the tapout ascend comes out so I really don't Care no more because I'm goin to get the next 4g Android they get
 
Was at a corporate store today in vegas and the manager and entire staff said the update for 2.2 would be here at the end of the month via sd cards through the stores

i just read on prepaidandriod.net that it would come out april 28 and you would to go to the store to get the update yea bring 10$ - 15$ and get a stupid warrenty!!!! sounds lame to me whatever happened to getting free updates..:mad:

Does anyone know if Jazziette is still maintaining this thread? Hasn't updated it since Feb 20th. So much for the "official 2.2 update" forum.

In a face-saving move, the ITU (responsible for the 4G spec taking so long and having been re-written more times than I can count) gave a press statement that because LTE, WiMAX and HSPA+ in the United States was such a leap ahead of 3G, it was ok to classify and call any of those 4G, with the ITU's sanction and blessing - even though none of them meet the final 4G speed requirements.

That reminds me of years ago when they started using EDGE radios in GSM cabinets and were calling it "2.5G".
 
I went down to the local MetroPCS store yesterday and got my new huawei ascend. As mentioned by others on here, the rep (who seemed rather knowledgeable) stated that they are waiting on the Tapout kickoff before they release Froyo (2.2). The Tapout tour is supposed to start tomorrow (April 9) in Dallas... now how much AFTER the kickoff they rollout Froyo, who knows? The rollout is supposed to go from April 9 to May 14, so hopefully they will do it sooner than later... he seemed to indicate that it would be by the end of the month, and notification would come in txt (not needing to go into the store)

Yeah, in the end, this is all rumor and speculation, but it is the latest semi-confirmable-by-a-MetroPCS-employee rumor and speculation...
 
Honestly, all we need at this point is someone to get the Tapout Ascend, create a backup, and upload it, then a fully working 2.2 will be able to be modded.
