[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

I would love to update my ROM to 2.2. Does anyone have the new ROM yet? An overclocked and optimized ROM from a trusted source would be very welcomed also. Cyanogen 7 is not available for the Ascend http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices and Icarus has issues. Will someone to post a link to the new Huawei Ascend TAPOUT ROM? Cheers, M

I had a small issue with sending mms at first with Icarus, but the help of others on the forum I got the issue fixed very quick. Now. It kicks booty.

I really can't review all 13 pages for these answers so they may have already been asked/ amswered, so ill ask anyway and hope for a reply....if my phone is rooted will i be able to receive the update over the air, or unroot first? Also why are we still programmed with 1x and not 3G? And I did the root correctly but my phone still lags and glitches. It took me 20 minutes to type this via dolphin brower. :(

Not sure if it's important or not, but the Ascend is no longer available on Metro's website. It says they are "refilling inventory." Think maybe they are upgrading the phones they have? Don't want to get hopes up, but this has to be a good sign right? MetroPCS | Phone Details)

A) we won't know until it comes out but it will get posted here.
B) Metro doesn't have 3g. If you are with Cricket I can't help there.
C) Rooting does not speed up your phone. It just gives you the ability to do more things which can speed up your phone, read the threads in the All Things Root subsection.
D) Get the Phandroid App. I'm using it now. It's quicker than using the browser.

That's a very good probability. I believe Cricket did the same with the Zio before it's update.

Have you checked out the Optimus C forum? They have had a total of of 3 posts since April 1.

Your right there is like no buzz over that phone. They only have eight threads. I don't mean I'd get that Optimus. It only has a 3.2 Inch Screen and I always wish the Ascend's screen was bigger. I don't know if LG is known for releasing OS upgades but they sure did just make a lot of Optimus users happy.

The Optimus 2x is sweet. Dual-core processor. I wish cricket would get the Huawei Ideos x5. It has a 3.8 inch screen. 3.8-4 inches seems like the perfect size to me. 4.3 just seems too big. I definitely wouldn't want to go smaller than the ascend, though.

The upgrades will happen when they happen. There is probably nothing anyone can do to hurry them so my advice is simply to be patient and wait because anything else is really just a waste of energy.

A)Ok, understood that a long time ago.
B)I have Metro, but...ok.
C)I understand that the purpose of rooting is not for speed enhancement, and yes, I have read the threads in the All Things Root subsection, and I have removed all my bloatware and installed the necessary apps to boot but I just thought maybe there was another problem to my lag, because since the root I haven't noticed much difference in my phone's performance all-around.
D)I have the Phandroid App specifically for these threads when I'm not around the computer, but for some reason I always get navigated back to the threads through browser even when I do use the app. But, thanks.

I saw a video a few months back. It appears 4g is only a marketing term. Real 4g should be 10-20 times faster than LTE.

Yep, saw it too.

In a face-saving move, the ITU (responsible for the 4G spec taking so long and having been re-written more times than I can count) gave a press statement that because LTE, WiMAX and HSPA+ in the United States was such a leap ahead of 3G, it was ok to classify and call any of those 4G, with the ITU's sanction and blessing - even though none of them meet the final 4G speed requirements.

Go figure.
