HI GUYS I KNOW EVERYONE HAS BEEN WAITING FOR THE UPGRADE ON OUR ASCENDS......WELL WAS ON THE INTERNET TALKING TO ONE OF THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS AND SHE SAID THAT THE 2.2 UPGRADE IS OUT AND THAT THE ONLY WAY FOR U TO GET IT IS U GO INTO UR LOCAL STORE (METRO THAT IS) AND ASK FOR THE UPGRADE FOR THE DEVICE! SHE SAID IT WAS RELEASED THE SAME DAY THAT THE TAPOUT CAME OUT! I ASKED WAS THERE A FEE AND SHE SAID YES ITS AROUND $10.00. IM NOT SAYING THAT THIS IS THE TRUTH BUT I WILL LET U GUYS KNOW IN THE MORNING OR LATER TOMORROW BECAUSE AS SOON AS I GET TIME I WILL BE AT THE MERTO STORE OWN THE ROAD FROM ME AND IF IT IS TRUE I WILL POST IT TO LET U KNOW IF SHE TOLD THE TRUTH!!!!!!!! SOOOOOOO HOPING THAT SHE WAS TELLING THE TRUTH!
GUYS JUST REMEMBER DDONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER SHOOT METRO FOR LYING TO US CONSTANTLY!!!![/QUOTE
Looks like another reason for me to leave MetroPCS.
Metro seemed quite alright for me until they started bringin in smartphones. They have been really becoming a pain in the behind lately. These are the reasons:
1) Jumping the gun right from 2g to 4g leaving all of us who purchased 3g enabled phones in the dust.
2) Since I bought my Ascend the day it came out it's been replaced 4 times and they charge for warranty service.
3)My insurance deductible on a phone I paid $100 for is $80 and the deductible for the phone I paid $200 for is only $35.
4) If for some reason you don't pay your bill on time and your phone gets shut off and you pay it two weeks later, you still have to pay your plan price on the original date it is due or they'll shut it off. Yep so you're paying a full month for 2 weeks of service.
I wish there was a way to unlock my Ascend so i could use it with Cricket. I have not heard any complaints from people I know using that service. If anybody knows if this is possible can you link me in the right direction?

Just it being 2.2 will be an improvement but after metro gets thru with it it prolly wont be much better than the stock 2.1 lolI am going to have to drop down to my local MPCS. I want the update... Regardless that it is going to cost 10 bucks, as long as it works, right out of the box! You know what I mean?!
I don't know that *flies off bridge*African or European?
I love CM7
well metro gets enough from me for paying my bills, and therefore i want give them nothing extra for no update, btw if alot of peoples wait it out, they can get it for free.
i dont know about everyone else but me personally i bought the ascend instead of the blackberry because its a free os and i shouldn't have to pay for something that is meant to be freeEven if there is a $10-$15 charge is really that big of a deal. Serious we paid $100 for a pretty good phone, we shouldnt be complaining at all. If you want free upgrades than maybe you should buy a $400 phone. Not being rude just saying even if it is an extra $10 its still a pretty good deal-----Wouldnt you agree??
Thing is Metro does nothing but f*ck it installing their bloatware n branding on it. Huawei is the one that compiles it for the Ascend.Love that you're all frustrated with the idea of a $10 charge to upgrade.. I've been reading this thread daily since late february and I would easily dish out $30 by now to have that update. (edit: this being said, I've tried to put Icarus 1.1 on my phone with a mac, windows xp, as well as windows 7 and got stuck at the "searching for phone drivers" each time so I'm a little frustrated with this slow ass stock phone by now).
regardless, if they do charge you it's a basic service fee covering the time they're spending doing it for you and there will CERTAINLY be the option of doing it yourself, for free, one way or another. Save gas, time, and money? yeah.

For as you're custom rom install fails, its most likely you didnt do something right n not the phone
Have you tried to installing w/o a PC??? Its alot easier that way. The PC way is great for those who can get it to work, but it can be a PITFA to get a PC setup to do it. Trust me, I got my desktop setup to be able to create apps n push em to the phone, but my laptop goes stuppy lol.I didn't blame the phone? I didn't blame anything but if you want to come watch my friend's PC computers stall at the "Searching for phone drivers.." screen for 30 minutes that's great. I can follow 1,2,3 instructions as well as anyone else who installed Icarus, but unfortunately I fall under the category of those who were unable to install it.
