[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

I had the same issue with no data after flashing from CM7 to the PlayfulMod-1.0_signed.zip. Looking at the APN settings there were none to be found after the flash. I tried the Metro_OFF fix for CM7 but that did nothing at all.

Here is what worked for me:

*228
Option 5
Option 1

After phone rebooted:

Open APN's and add...

Name: MetroPCS
APN: <Not Set>
Proxy: proxy.metropcs.net
Port: 3128
Username: <Not Set>
Password: <Not Set>
Server: <Not Set>
MMSC: http://mms.metropcs.net:3128/mmsc
MMS Port: <Not Set>
MCC: <Not Set>
MNC: <Not Set>
Authentication Type: PAP or CHAP
APN Type: *

You will get an error that "The APN cannot be empty." Just hit OK and then END.
Go back to APN settings and MetroPCS should be in the list. If there is no green dot after it, just put it there.

I am not sure if both steps above are necessary but it worked for me and I currently don't have time to replicate the flash and try each seperately.

Hope this helps.

80s have you tested you MMS with those settings?

What is with all these people?

They post the fact that Metro has released the update, and they want thank's...

WE ALREADY KNOW!! READ THE FORUM JUST A LITTLE AND YOU'LL SEE WE'VE KNOWN FOR A WEEK NOW.

I'll give thanks to whomever makes it usable for Cricket. Not to a repost of old news.

Post was not meant for you it is for others that are lost with all the crap others write that spams the original post and I did not ask for your thank I ask for who ever wanted to thank

has any one else come across this i cant restore my back up of 2.3.4 is stops at data says it cant be formatted what can i do to get it back should i just reflash i dont realy want to it took 2 days to get it to where i was satisfyed with my setup i dont mind the 2.2.2 update but i like the latter better it seems like wifi's slower for me data's about the same but why the heck is my wifi slower it loads ok but about 3/4 of the way thru loading it seems to slow way down
im in the same boat bud since sunday been trying to figure it out to no avail yet. please keep me update if you find something that works

I tried updating the firmware all morning. My first try was via wifi which resulted in a black screen crash of death. Second try was via downloading the software and installing from my computer which resulted in an update failed message while in the "unpacking" stage.

So I took my phone into the Metro store here in Los Angeles, and the girl behind the counter was trying to convince me that the only 2.2 for Huawei is in the Tapout edition. I instructed her to go to metropcs.com to check out the page with instructions, which also states that this update is NOT for the tapout phone. She had me speak with the manager who (was an a-hole) told me he had received an email stating that:

The firmware update is in testing stages and will not be fully available for six more days (which will be June 13).

I appreciate the info on trying to update it for my Cricket phone but when I tried to update it, it stopped at Step 2. Any ideas? or should I wait?

down load winrar. it will open toe cmw3.0.0.5 file. click the first link and donw load, then click second link and down load.

winrar: http://www.mediafire.com/?1i99auldfsru75s

cwm: http://www.mediafire.com/?58l7ccmtkmli107

then open cwm and put your phone into fast boot. power it off, hold down volume call end and press power and you will get white huawei screen. plug phone into computer. open cmw and if you on window click on abd windows, fastboot windows, and install recovery windows, a black screen will open and close real quick on each. when done disconnect phone and remove battery for 10 seconds. put battery back in and boot into cwm volume up call and power hold them down. you will have a orange and black screen showing cwm3.0.0.5. then start the normal flashing procedure. goodluck

If you are talking about the official 2.2 update, that is for metro only, not cricket.

the reason it stop was to keep from flashing metro to a cricket phone, and the headache for going to cricket and having them re program you phone!!!:D

The ROM doesn't have messaging installed so I was only able to test mobile data using Internet so far. Once I figure out the swype issue I will install messaging and give it a try using both SMS and MMS.

And that's funny u say that cuz on the metro pcs website it says to take it to the store (option³ for upgrade) ..to be upgraded "by trained personnel" ROFLMAO. But it also says they MAY charge $10 for backup/restore ... makes me wonder how bad cricket is goin to be.. if ever.. ...

i hate that cricket users cant try this out at the moment, but trust me you would get rid of it sooner or later...

There is an app called "link to sd" you can use that does the same thing as apps to sd. You will have to partition the sd card with a computer or rom manager first. This works on stock/rooted phones.
