[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

So, yesterday I tried to update to 2.2 and it went through the whole process and did the two restarts. However, after restarting the second time, the phone wont do anything but stay at the huawei screen. I let it sit thinking that it would just take some time, but an hour later I finally had to pull the battery out to get the phone to shut down. Tried doing a hard reset, and it didnt work, still won't get past the huawei screen. And seeing as the phone wont load at all, i can't even try to flash back to stock because it wont even go into fastboot mode. literally wont do anything but sit at the huawei screen. Anyone have the same problem, or know of a solution????
 
I went to the Metropcs.com website and went to my phone and the uodate was available. I did the download the LEGIT way and my phone runs great!!:p
 
nuttmeg - With gingerbreak, is that a permanent root? Z4root was nice, becuase I could unroot if i needed to take back to MetroPCS store. Just curious. Thanks

i think we know that by know, theres alot of threads, in "All Things Root" section bout 2.2 update

yes it works just like z4root, and you can always unroot also if you ever needed to. I have manage to remove all bloatware in the metro folder and apps folder by using the latest root explorer 2.16... :D
 
can someone please help? I was trying to flash back to metro stock and did the whole thing with volume down,power and end button and when I ran the stock metro file it said failed, I couldnt get my phone back on, so I took the battery out and now i am stuck on black screen that says android. Ive had no phone for awhile.... If it is stuck on black ANDROID screen am I screwed? Did I brick it. Can someone help?
 
My dad gave me his old 2.1 Hauwei Ascend today, and I really wanna update it to 2.2. It's rooted, and most of the metro apps are gone. Any help?

Yeah. The instructions are here but swtich setp 3 with 4. That will ensure you know its working. Just be sure to pull the battery and leave it out for 10 seconds. It works.

I have tried this already is fastboot method and nandroid....nothing at all im starting to feel like i didi something wrong...HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

No.. I want to know how to download the official via internet. I'm too busy to go to Metro now.. (BTW I'm a kid, my technology area isn't bad, but it isn't advanced either..)

In all honesty, you would love CM7 much better than any 2.2 release from Metro. It runs faster and lets you do a ton more to your phone as far as customization vs using the stock ROMs. Rooting and flashing ROMs is not hard at all. If you need help I can help you farther. PM me if you need it. Just follow the guide above and you should have no problems.


But if you still insist on keeping the stock ROMs from metro then go to their site and you can get it there.

reverting back to stock, ok power down the phone and download and extract this to your desktop MetroStockRecovery-SCRIPTS.zip after you done that press and hold vol down, end key and tap power, your phone should be on the white huawei screen and it should stay there, now open the folder that you extracted and run both of these file, first run fastboot-windows you will see a black box come and leave quick, next run metroPCSStock-windows.bat than another black box will pop up and it will do its thing, once it finishes the phone will automatic reboot itself.

I did what you told me and now its stuck on the android screen....
 
My dad doesn't want me to use experimental operating systems, because if I mess up this phone, I can't get a new one for a while. We just switched from T-Mobile, too.

I believe we are having the same problem. Are you stuck on the start up with the android or where it says android? I am stuck where it says android and when I try to do the restore it says it's awaiting on the android or something like that.... It doesn't read that I have the phone hooked up to the computer.I've try everything and it won't even power off, just stays lit up on the screen
 
if you are running windows xp you have to go to device manager and delete adb android 1.0, than remove your phone from the computer, than reconnect it and the install wizard should come up and install, next you should be fine once it install, also it will not show up as a drive like it normally do when you plug it in like normal.
 
Titanium can't find apk after you updated to 2.2.2 on your Ascend? Ok first, buy (or otherwise acquire) Root explorer. Find your folder, cust/metropcs/app or something like that and change the folder from read only (RO) to read/writable (RW).

Now you're not done here. Some people then close the app and run titanium. See looped? Uno? These are apk files...

Ok, you DON'T need Titanium Pro/Donated version with this. Once you shift a folder to r/w in the apps/metropcs/cust folder to delete a stock app simply long press. A menu will pop up and delete is an option.
