[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

Yeah. Cricket's not really that bad anymore. Decent coverage, and 3g... and their phones and general service are getting better. It's just the fact that they're holding out on this update. That's really my only gripe about Cricket.

hello friends. so like everyone else, i wanted to try the 2.2.2 update and alas bloatware supreme!!! mean stuff too. like a bunch of cockroaches that just keep coming back. anyhow, do like playful god says and download gingerbreak(dont think it matters which one, i did 1.2) and root explorer. but to successfully remove the bloatware using root explorer, it has to be version 2.16. i tried 2.13, 2.13.1, 2.13.2, 2.17 and 2.9.3. none of them worked. get 2.16. worked like a charm. get 2.16 here Link Removed or just grab the attachment on this post. thanks to all the hard work from playful god and everyone else who loves this stuff. stay rooted!

AndroidForums does not condone copyright infringement nor software piracy.

please support your devs and donate for all the hard work they have done.

Wow.

Absolutely correct - copyright infringement and postings to paid apps are an illegal activity and AndroidForums.com can have no part in that.

I'll also be needing to know the source of that update being posted at Mediafire.

It that's the work product of another dev, then link to that dev's site, please don't mirror it behind his back.

Independent developers work hard to make Android work for you when your phone's maker and/or carrier won't. They deserve money when they sell apps, they deserve support when they develop things - they deserve the love.

So - support your local devs. It keeps you out of trouble with mods, it makes your hair shinier and teeth whiter, and your dog will love you for it. Seriously - tell your dog you're showing an Android dev some love and he'll tend to wag his tail, 9 times out of 10.

I upgraded my Huawei Ascend which was rooted. Then I couldnt root it again but was finally able to figure it out. SO my phone is rooted.

Rooted w/ Gingerbreak
then root explorer

The problem I am having now is that I cannot find on the market the following apps:
-Shopkick
-TV guide

I then tried to do it thru the market website but it says its not comparable. I also try to find it around other website where to download them from and it wouldnt work. But I had these on my phone before the update.

If someone can help me figure out how I could get these apps back on my phone it would be great!

Also, when I tried to join my contacts from FB to my phonebook, I would click on the FB contact, edit, and there was no "Join" option. So, if someone help figure out how to join my contacts.

Regards,

CM7 seems to have everything I want but I don't know how to install with 2.2 on my phone. I tried to install CWM via ultimate customization thread and after i debug booted (volume down+end call+power off) my phone rebooted and re-installed 2.2 back to stock lol.

If you can't get it to install from Fastboot, your other alternative is to download ROM Manager from the market, which will allow you to install CWM 3.0.0.5. Since your Market is not working, you can try going to market.android.com and logging in with your gmail credentials, lookup ROM Manager, and click Install to see if it will push to your phone. If that doesn't work, here are a couple of other possible solutions:

Fix for Market Apps Hanging on Downloading or Inst - techno zone

Fix Android Market From Hanging During Downloads & Installation

I could swear that I once posted another link with a long explanation of how to fix this issue, but I cannot find it for the life of me.

Thanks to all the bully's on here for attacking the new guy for doing something you've all done. Really stand up bunch you all are...

its not bully's, but one question how would you feel making an app that you posted for sell and never made any money cause everyone is getting it for free...chill out dude, your not the only one who has done this.

Let me say that my recent posts look like they're from a lunatic. I want to apologize to everyone here on this thread and on the site in general. I got busted doing something I shouldn't have done and I went into defensive mode. Again I'm sorry and it won't happen again.

Our registration process is clear and specific and requires acknowledgement of our rules - they clearly include that any sort of software piracy will not be tolerated.

(good thing I saw your last post!)

OK - just please don't do that sort of thing again, and if you need any assistance, just send a PM to any of us with red or green name tags, we'll be happy to guide you through the rocky bits.

So I'm not done here?

Cuz that would suck. I love this forum

I'd say your good. :)

Everybody makes mistakes from time to time. Fact is you realize your mistake and even apologized for it. We're not here to kick people out...we're just trying to keep this place running as smoothly as possible (and out of court lol). My only advice would be to keep your cool. Having a post deleted doesn't mean you're being ganged up on or that you're not welcome here. EarlyMon and nuttmeg were just doing their jobs.

Im trying to use this as opposed to root explorer bc I can't buy it,
I did all of the steps trying to delete the bloatware but the .apk keep coming back..
has anyone used this successfully?

I found that Root Explorer was the only thing that worked. If you google it, you may come up to some sites that could have a paid version or cracked that you can download.

While i highly recommend that people do pay for their software if they like it, sometimes cracked apps are what we have to work with from time to time.

What exactly were you doing at the time when it froze?

I've deleted your other thread, as I assume this is root related and we try to avoid having duplicate threads.

just updated my metorpcs Ascend to 2.2 and down loaded z4root for rooting my phone, but nothing happens. what can I do to root my Ascend with the 2.2 update ?

Help?!
Is there a way to stop it...
Or something... it keeps saying update failed

reverting back to stock, ok power down the phone and download and extract this to your desktop MetroStockRecovery-SCRIPTS.zip after you done that press and hold vol down, end key and tap power, your phone should be on the white huawei screen and it should stay there, now open the folder that you extracted and run both of these file, first run fastboot-windows you will see a black box come and leave quick, next run metroPCSStock-windows.bat than another black box will pop up and it will do its thing, once it finishes the phone will automatic reboot itself.

I just upgraded to Froyo 2.2 and everything is working fine...unfortunately, I had to re-download all my apps, problem is that Google is saying that the app(s) is/are now incompatible with my device when they worked before on Eclair 2.1. What gives?

Rooting is giving me hell as well, but I will get it to work, I usually do.

You need to have your phone connected to the PC via USB while doing this... you left that out nuttmeg... LOL :)
