[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

Hi I just purchased my huawei ascend from Cricket today and it current has android 2.1 i was wondering if I can put the updated firmware from metropcs. Please reply back thanks

nope, but you can install cm6 which is 2.2 but faster, just click the link in my siggy for cm6...

just updated my metropcs Huawei Ascend to 2.2 and tried the z4root nothing happens. what am I doing wrong if I am, I have read some threads on other sites and they said that z4root does not work with the 2.2. If this is the case what other root tools can I use and where can I find them.

ive read some have had success and some havent .. my question is somewhat oldschool phone flashing question .. couldnt you just flash the cricket phone to metropcs android 2.2 update then just upload a cricket prl and *228 it ?? what about qpst ? no manual programming ?? these type of things should be getting easier to do not harder .. wish phones start having generic with a carrier pack applied .. make life easier and enjoyable

An a la' carte menu of phones/carriers/operating systems,so to speak. All dependent on the quality of phone you select. It would be nice.I could see a future in this, customer demand usually drives these types of changes to take place. I'm on board!

If manufacturers would leave android vanilla without putting skins over it, and the carriers would stop loading the phones down with bloatware, it would be a lot closer to what you are describing.

Ok awesome people in this site. I upgraded my huawei ascend to 2.2.2 and now need to root it. Z4root obviously doesnt work. I have been trying to find the gingerbreak v1.1 download because apparently that works. I am new to rooting but a quick learner. Could someone please give me a reliable link for a rooting program that works with 2.2.2 and step by step instructions. Once again, you guys/gals are "Awesome" and please help me.

First off, thanks to all the regular contributors here--I've learned quite a bit lurking!

I have the MetroPCS Ascend and I just installed the 2.2 update. Unfortunately, it appears the Google Music app is not available. When I opened up a web browser and tried to d/l it that way, I got the message that "This device is not supported."

Is this a problem with the Ascend? MetroPCS? Something else? Is there a work-around?

I have all my music uploaded; I'll be bummed if I can't access it from my phone. Thanks for your help.

I installed GgerBrak-v1.20.apk on my phone a huawei ascend and now is rooted put can not get the factory apps that I do not want to delete. I get a message that reads ( cannot remove system app fail to locate the apk file) can anyone help ?

go to cust/ and delete /metropcs

No the Ascend does not support Google Music. If you really want it you can download it offline instead of the Market. I don't suggest it because its illegal, I'm sure that app is copyrighted. Also you may get malware and it may record your email address and password without your consent.

after i updated my phone to 2.2...rooted with gingerbreak and used root explorer to removed all the metro apps. i tried to reboot and it gets stuck and keeps repeating at hello, hello hello wireless for alll

sounds like you deleted something you wasnt suppose to, do a recovery back to 2.1 and start over.

reverting back to stock, ok power down the phone and download and extract this to your desktop MetroStockRecovery-SCRIPTS.zip after you done that press and hold vol down, end key and tap power, your phone should be on the white huawei screen and it should stay there plug your phone to the computer via usb cable, now open the folder that you extracted and run both of these file, first run fastboot-windows you will see a black box come and leave quick, next run metroPCSStock-windows.bat than another black box will pop up and it will do its thing, once it finishes the phone will automatic reboot itself.

Nothing has worked so far, but here is what happened, I have the Metro version of the Ascend, rooted it with Z4Root, backed everything up with titanium, everything was working perfect. The Froyo came out and I did the upgrade threw Metro. The battery was about 75% when I started could not plug it in to the charger cause I left it at my brothers. It seemed to update just fine but after a few reboots it is now stuck on the Huawei screen but says first update complete, wait for upgrade to froyo, been stuck there ever since. Tried the hard reset, nothing, tried the fastboot, nothing. I live about 100 miles from the nearest Metro store due to moving, is there anything I can do?

I have tried this several times now, it just sits on waiting for device for hours on end.

your fastboot drivers are not install, go to device manager and uninstall adb android 1.0 and unplug it from usb than plug it back in.
it should now bring up a install wizard or some sort to install it. if you get a message just click install anyway.

it worked!!!! thank you very much...i was gettin frustrated and was about to take it to metro store. thanks to all the help in this forum!! especially nuttmeg

I'm using XP, all I can find in device manager is android adapter, hit the re=install driver, but windows cannot find it, where do I find this driver?
