[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

i upgraded to the 3.0 already from the rom manager before and i tried just for shits and giggles to back up the rom im on and the same thing happened. when i get home from work im going to try a idea from nuttmet about fastboot installing 3.0 instead of the version from rom manager and see if that works

yea take your phone to a metro store and they will do the upgrade for you
 
for some reason i cant watch videos anymore on my huawei ascend i did the 2.2 update but now its not letting watch videos =[ it says sorry,this video is not valid for steaming to this device and my phone goes really slow even with the new update
 
well going to try to upgrade again. redownloaded the files and have a plan in case it fails again.

It has worked. Wow cool.
 
Hi my phone gets stuck on the first step is finished wait for upgrade to froyo ..then i try to reboot it and it tellls me and gets stuck on unpacking /update fail..can someone please help.Thanks

This is the same problem i ran into. Phone must be more than 90% charged and download the latest version of the files from the metro site. Also i recommend doing with all plugged in to the wall charger. First thought you will need to restore to the stock firmware go a couple pages back and download the files. Follow the instructions and that will fix it for you.

Ill try that .also my phone wont shut off like if its frozen...Is that fixable?Went to metropcs people but they are useless.I have download the files to reboot my phone but since i cant shut it off if wont let me I take out the battery but it goes stay to the white screen sayin fist step is finish blah blah ..and wont let me boot..I hope i can get my phone back.Thanks

reverting back to stock, ok power down the phone and download and extract this to your desktop MetroStockRecovery-SCRIPTS.zip after you done that press and hold vol down, end key and tap power, your phone should be on the white huawei screen and it should stay there, now open the folder that you extracted and run both of these file, first run fastboot-windows you will see a black box come and leave quick, next run metroPCSStock-windows.bat than another black box will pop up and it will do its thing, once it finishes the phone will automatic reboot itself.

I already have the files on computer..But my phone is stuck on the first step is finish wait for upgrade to froyo and it wont let me do the hold vol down, end key and tap power, your phone should be on the white huawei screen.How do i get it to actually get back to stock with that issue?Also when i do the vol down,end key and power it takes me to the upagrade fail screen and my 3 buttons are blinking ..can anyone help?

Yeah. The instructions are here but swtich setp 3 with 4. That will ensure you know its working. Just be sure to pull the battery and leave it out for 10 seconds. It works.

Yeah all good now everything works ..Kinda hate that doesnt have different themes.But thanks im happy i got my phone back :p
 
Ok so now that i have played with it for a few days, and have decided that it sucks. I am going back to CM6.

Sorry but to many issues on CM7, so i am gonna chill with 6 and enjoy having a good working version of Froyo...

Not Metro's locked down and blogged up crap.

Thank you to the CM6/7 Devs..your doing great things..

On a side note..with the update CWM 2.1. does not seem to work at all. Kept freezing up..
I had to set phone back to stock...2.1 and then install CWM, and then go for CM6...urgh so frustrating little phone.
 
2.2 works grate i like the added features talk to text ,:cool:and the 5 screens are more than enough wish i could get stupid zombies as a game
 
Ok, figured out that the software was not able to install the packets via their system... So I had to do it via the SD card... The website has it wrong, on their list of how to do it... I got it after 30 minutes, and 2.2.2 looks great! It's faster, has apps2sd, and looks so much cooler! I am impressed. Now all I need to tackle is the rooting of the phone, and remove bloatwares! Love 2.2 so much more! Seems more simple, and way better!

First, I can no longer hook my phone to my car stereo via the USB and listen to the music on my SD Card, and my computer will no longer "auto load" when I hook my phone to it using USB... I have to connect by using the phones buttons...

anyone having these issues? I'm more concerned about the car stereo usb issue, and not the computer issue since I can connect to the computer, just not as quick... :)

So I guess I'm the only person having this issue?? I've reflashed my Ascend 4 times now, and same results all four times... Hmmm... well I guess its back to freaking 2.1 again... SAD.... :(:(
 
It sure was a down grade, i cant get back on cm7 or any other rom. it freezes when it comes to backing up formatting or restoring cache. im stuck

i had the same problem , but no matter what i did on 2.1 i could not get cmr to let me flash another rom
 
I think I screwed the pooch here.

I was going to put playfulgod's tweaked rom on my phone last night, so I went ahead and installed CWM ROM manager on my MetroPCS Ascend. Even went way out of character and paid for the full version, just to be that kind of guy.

So I tried to do a backup of the ROM using the RM and it hung on the Huawei screen. I had a full battery. After about an hour, I went ahead and pulled the battery.

When I restarted the phone, it told me there was an important update for my phone that would enhance its operation. It downloaded, then said installing update, phone will not be usable while this is in progress.

What's important to note here is that I didn't ask or confirm any of this while it was happening, I was an impotent witness to the imminent demise.

It restarted, the screen said "Software update 1/2 Unpacking" with a pink progress bar.

When the pink progress bar got all the way across the screen, it froze.

So I waited another hour or so, and did the battery trick.

Now, if it's off and plugged into the charger, I can get the "battery charging" icon thing, but if I press any buttons at all, it just goes to a screen that says "Preparing to update..."

I let it sit there overnight on the off chance it would magically finish, but this morning I've tried the reset and quick boot options and it just doesn't respond.

Help me Huawei Forum, you're my only hope.
 
Honestly you would be better off and way more satisfied if you just rooted the phone and flash a custom Tom. Icarus, cm6, cm7. You wont be disappointed.
 
For anyone who might be having problems uninstalling bloatware apps using Titanium Backup, try upgrading the Superuser app.

Open Titanium Backup, and on the Overview screen click the "Problems?" button at the bottom of the screen. You'll get a "Troubleshooting" screen, and click the "Upgrade superuser" button. This will take you to Market, update the Superuser app and once it has been installed you'll be able to uninstall bloatware.

You must be rooted to do this, and also be careful what you delete, and make sure you're backed up.

Just noticed that I didn't have a problem unistalling Metro Studio, but I'm getting the same error as before trying to uninstall some of the other apps, such as Metro Xtras.

Sorry about the false alarm....
 
What is with all these people?

They post the fact that Metro has released the update, and they want thank's...

WE ALREADY KNOW!! READ THE FORUM JUST A LITTLE AND YOU'LL SEE WE'VE KNOWN FOR A WEEK NOW.

I'll give thanks to whomever makes it usable for Cricket. Not to a repost of old news.
