Subject: Ascend M860

Hello, I have the Ascend M860 mobile cell phone and love it, I was just wondering if there was going to be an update or upgade of the Android OS from 2.1 to 2.2 for the Ascend M860. Thanks, Victor

There tech support will be like most other companys, one person will tell you one thing and another person will tell you something totally different, so when I see it I will believe it, until then I'm just going to keep loving my Ascend :D

I think getting the update will not happen anytime soon, don't hold your breath. I went to the huawei website, registered, browsed for a while, then decided to reply. The moment I did this, I became a guest again. They're like chrysler, they don't support the products they make. I'm beginning to not like the company, they are only in it for profit. Customer concerns, and support, seem to be foreign to them. Don't get me wrong, I like my phone. The public, and the carriers should pressure huawei, to do the right thing, otherwise, they should stop making phones. Huawei hurts their reputation, before they can have one. I only deal with reliable products, that have support, I may never buy huawei's products again, no matter how good they may be. I don't deal with companies that shaft you.

Relax, this phone has only been out for 3 months and it's a $100 phone. There are people with Samsung phones that have been out way longer than this that are just now getting it.

Besides, They did at least release a kernel so people can modify the phone (Make new roms). It's too early to tell where this is going. I also agree that it is indeed one of the cheapest phones made with android on it. Just the fact that we will get an update is something we should appreciate! ^^. Besides, I love this phone. Even if I don't get that 2.2 update...

My sentiments exactly.

LOL! Why am I not surprised! The day my Ascend came in I went to the local corp store to get a blue tooth, which they didn't have the kind I wanted natch, and had my first experience with their total lack of knowledge. The first time I had to call in for support, like the second day, the rep who took my call asked me to hold while she got the manual. :D

I found Android Forums that day! :p

I think you might be seeing them. No one was interested in any custom roms for the zio when it had only 1.6 but with 2.2 things should change. However, the Ascend has become the phone of choice for the techies now so I think you will still see more concentration and effort there.

yeah thats exactly where i was headed lol i was at some hope thinking maybe they can mod the zio update to run the asecnd lol.. wishfull thinking lol

;)
Never say never - but I wouldn't expect that to work, as each maker does just that one little thing in hardware that can require the software to match exactly.

If this can be done - wait until a number of developers agree that it can and does work. Typically what happens when this is attempted is that the phone turns into a brick.

I think that a lot of people are busy working on roms (2.2 unofficial, Icarus, etc) for this phone. Besides having issues with MMS, I've heard a lot of good things about them. With or without an official update, We'll all have somewhere to go with this phone. ^.^

I have the ascend with metro pcs. I was talking to a customer service representative and asked them about the whole upgrade thing, and the lady has no idea what I was talking about. She said that metro has nothing to do with things like that and that if there is an upgrade that I would have to talk to the manufacturer. Someone tell me she just had no clue. Lol

Just keep checking back on this thread. We'll be sure to let everyone know. No matter who finds out first, We all report here!

Most of them are clueless. It's just not their job! I could go on...but I think I'll just stop there. LOL

:D

Sorry about that post, but I like to build comps, and I normally read up on things before I buy my components, including support for the products. I just had enough that night about reading this, and that, about the update, I will just wait for march 16.

okay ill keep reporting here.this community seems to be more reliable than customer service anyway.lol
I had been getting my info from here for a while, lurking, before making this account, so I kinda knew you guys before you responded to me. Lol kinda creepy.

I know it's highly unlikeely, but if, god forbid, metro decides to not help with an upgrade, would there be a way to use crickets? I'm a computer geek but I literally know diddle about phones. This is kinda my first one. Thank god for budget smart phones.

Hi Reposiric! Welcome to our happy little forum! :)

Don't worry...if an upgrade comes out (and we are most definitely expecting it) there will be all kinds of support here, regardless of who the carrier is.

LOL@Thank god for budget smart phones! I've never actually looked at the Ascend that way but I guess you have a point! hahaha

Thanks. I'm glad I found this forum.

I really can't wait. I use my phone pretty much only for gaming. there are some serious real gamer gaming opportunities, and i need to move stuff to SD so bad. Totally full within days of getting it.

Lol yeah it sort of is. ill spare my life story, but I am super poor, and was so excited to see how cheap this thing was. Lol

other than sd move, does anyone know the other specs coming along with it?
