so a few things to get off the my chest, i came to this forum to get info about my phone and to see if there any cool things to do with it, and all im reading in every topic is about the 2.1 update. I dont care if it comes to be honest. If it comes it comes. Does my phone make calls-yes, can i send a text message-yes, can i check my facebook, emails, etc- yes. I dont care what the processor is, i dont care if the phone sprouted legs and did back flips. I dont care. It does what i want it to do and thats all that matters. And to all the Eris "haters" who are gonna jump to the incredible or another phone, i really want to know where you are getting the money to do this, cause in this economy to be jumping to the "next best phone" every 6 months your probably gonna go broke, but if you happy with "the greatest phone in the world" go for it. But i guarantee that what ever phone you jump to you'll be bashing it again in 6 months just like the eris. So go get your new phone and let those that have this very affordable entry-level android phone alone.

I got this email from VZW Customer Service a few days ago.

"Verizon Wireless plans to offer software upgrades on the HTC Droid Eris throughout the life of the device. There will be an operating system upgrade that will be released very soon which provides the additional benefits of Google Maps Navigation (Beta). There is already a non-approved version online which we discourage users from obtaining since this can void your warranty."

I call for a screen shot of that email...

April 29 is the new rumor date according to HTC Forums. We shall see.

dude....

"i spoke to verizon yesterday and eris is to get 2.1 on the 29th. its going OTA as soon as the incredible is liv, which is the 29th"

come on, just another guy, who "talked to a rep"

lol

The 29th would be convenient, because I'm jumping to the Incredible. If I can say that the Eris runs 2.1 in my eBay posting, I might get more cash. If you criticize me for getting the Incredible, that's like criticizing someone with the MyTouch3G for jumping ship to the Nexus One. The Incredible should have been called the Eris 2. Just look at the model numbers: ADR6200 => ADR6300.

I talked to a guy at the verizon store today about the supposed shipping screw up for the Incredible, he said he called every store around and they didn't have any. But as I was walking out he said, "Oh, but the 2.1 update is coming out the 29th!", and proceeded to show me his Eris running what he claimed to be the release version of 2.1. Who knows, this might be legit!

I would consider the Legend the Eris 2.

If we're going to be technical here, the Legend is the successor to the Hero and the Droid Incredible is the successor to the Droid Eris. Although the internals of a Droid Eris are similar to the Hero's, I don't think the Legend is the proper successor.

I think the Incredible is more powerful than the Legend and/or has more features so....

I'm pretty sure the Legend is the successor to both the Hero and the Eris, and the Incredible is way more powerful than the legend. I don't even think the Legend is as powerful as the Droid, I could be wrong though about that last part. The Droid Eris is the Hero, just here in America or CDMA verison, they are almost the exact same phones.

Well, it can only be concluded then, that, besides the Farlkle wife, Ferd Berfel was also messing with Mrs. Droid.

quick question, apologies if this is obvious (noob). what happens to us that have flashed/ rooted to the 2.1 available in these forums, when 2.1 is actually released in an update, 29th possibly ?
will our phones update to the official version?

question what if you have already installed 2.1 root will the phone take the official OTA uodate from VZW ?

There is a path to return rooted devices to 1.5 in a thread in this Eris forum.

Once you do that the OTA is more likely to come to your phone than if you don't, although it has not been stated with certainty, by anyone with authority to know, that the 2.1 leakers and rooters are not eligible to receive the official update.

I really hope these rumors are true. If no word arrives on the 29th I am going to take the plunge and go for root.

So far I've been a 'Friscan' and withheld from upgrading but...I really want that Navigation :)

You are better off rooting now and using a 2.1 ROM. That way you can roll back when the OTA comes and use the official one. But root is generally better than anything an OTA can offer. Usually, devs take the new firmware and integrate it into a custom ROM, much like the 2.1 root ROM is now.

I think in the slight chance that 2.1 leak users don't get the OTA, I'm sure someone will figure out how though.
