Root **Official** Droid X encrypted bootloader and efuse thread

If you do not get it, it isn't for you...
So you don't either?

I think there should be an amendment to the "creed."

"I am a hacker if I find something I can't hack I won't cry about it I'll simply try harder for I am a hacker and I am smarter than those that seek to keep me out. I am a hacker therefore I hack and hack and hack until it's hacked but I will not bitch that I am somehow owed the ability to gain access for I am a hacker!!" DEATH To encryption!! :D

I agree with you no where does it say that devices need to be open. Thats not the point. We aren't angry that someone broke the rules.

The point is that we don't want encrypted phones, we feel that the technological world is better with unencrypted bootloaders than one where it (among other things) is. In principle we have a problem with it, so In principle I will argue against it and not support it.

I'm not looking for phones that are easy to hack I'm looking for ones where we don't have to! This isn't Android specific, or phone specific for that matter.

No I cannot be happy with whatever I get because If I don't fight for an open environment it won't happen. I mean that too; if the bootloader is encrypted I will not buy one

You are NEVER going to get a BIG corp. to be totally open.

Yes the world is a better place with unencrypted phones unfortunately the carriers sees them as a way to make money and they don't like it when you can hack the phone and bypass their revenue stream.
They don't like people bricking their phones and then returning them becasue they, for some unknown reason, suddenly stopped powering up. These things cost them money.

Hasn't every android phone been locked to some degree? I'm assuming you didn't buy those either based on the principles you stated above, right? :rolleyes:If you bought any android phone that you had to hack then I find it hard to believe in what you are claiming. (that you are fighting for a totally open phone) and I'm more inclined to think you're just unhappy this one won't be as easy to hack.

And I've said it myself if you don't like the encrypted bootloader then don't buy the phone simple really. The people claiming they should be able to do what they want with "their phone" are nuts. Why? because Moto makes a "product", In this case it may have an encrypted bootloader that can't be hacked but it's still their product until you buy it. If you decide to buy it you will have to deal with what you get.

nuff said

The bottom line is:
If you don't like their product don't buy it and if you do then you have to deal with what you get.

Agree if i were a hacker i would want a challenge like this because if you are able to crack it you are the first and will be known for cracking tough bootloaders and im sure there is lots of money available for people like that. Maybe with these particular companies

It's not all about "hacking"....

First of all, there's a lot of confusion on people's thoughts of what the term hacking means, in this thread.

Some understand that it simply means modifying software in order to perform tasks that the original developer did not intend. Others don't seem to follow that logic, or aren't really familiar with what the real meaning of hacking is.

The short and sweet concerns for me, as they apply to the Droid X, are that I would prefer having the most control over how the software controls the phone; from things as simple as modifying the theme to suit my needs, to upgrading the ROM, if such a time arises that it would benefit my use of the device.

This thread may be jumping the gun a bit, but it also informed me (a first time Android buyer), that there may be reasons for me to go with the Incredible over the Droid X. With the foreknowledge that I've acquired by reading what some may consider pure conjecture, I at least am going into my purchase options with a better understanding of what is for sure (the Incredible being a known entity), what may be (the possibility of a long, or non-existent, hack for the Droid X), and what is purely speculative (that nobody publicly seems to be sharing the answers yet).

The fact that this thread exists, however, has given me a reason to consider options other than the Droid X, as backup alternatives, because as a first time Android buyer I assumed all Android phones were relatively "open".

Thanks,

Great job organizing the OP. Just an FYI, I tried a few of the links and I am getting page not found.

Thanks man, I appreciate that.

As for the links.... *Face-palm* I'm not sure what I did at first, but they were all misbehaving lol. Thanks for point that out, it should be resolved now :)

It just sucks, the Fascinate looks like a$$ and so does its UI lol. And Samsung phones suck too.

I'd rather get the X and root it at least.

i know how you feel. it looks like an i touch, but theres cases for that. i take it as a minor mishap while focusing on the components of the device

What do you mean?

in the simplest terms.

the older your software the better chances of rooting......most devices launch with flaws and cracks in the softwares security. Over time these cracks are sealed through updates, blocking us owners of the device

I'm not surprised by this at all. Expect the Droid 2 to follow the same pattern as the Droid X.

That being said I'm still going to get one. Samsung phones are junk IMO.

Oh yeah of course :)

Yeah this won't stop me from getting the X for now...we do have 30 days to return it afterall...maybe that Twitter guy will find something or at least prove he rooted it.

dont update your X's no matter how tempting it may be!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As an Eris owner I agree 100%. You can always upgrade to the new version if that is what gets rooted but you may not be able to downgrade to get to a rootable version. In short stay at the earliest possible software version until root gets figured out.

actually, i would say this applies to all android phones.

that may be the bottom line of your opinion. I still think the x is an amazing phone. It comes to the market at a great time, with a great set of tools.

You cant deny the galaxy s though. Yes we all know the hardware is amazing, but tied down by touchwiz. Custom roms will fix that right away;) so, my point is that this hardware should have root and custom roms WAAAAAAAAAAY before the X and droid 2. Thats my bottom line.

great thing to have a choice.

Still waiting on a reply from the Twitter guy Stephen to see if custom roms are still possible or if it's hopeless... I'll let you know what he says.

Problem with staying older is that 2.2 is just too important. Past that I can see holding out on updates but 2.2 will be a must have.
