Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Well I hope it's not a weak radio, HTC phones have been having some issues with stuff like that lately (N1 and Incredible) so hopefully the Evo isn't another phone that has network problems. The N1 had that issue and still does for many dropping 3G and going to edge and the incredible has issues showing it's only getting like 1 or 2 bars when other phones in the same spot get full bars.
Could you list a phone that has been released in the last 6 months that has a great radio?

...First I can not type two day, broke my hand. So bear with me...

Sorry to hear 'bout your hand, River, but just think how great it will be to have an EVO with voice-to-text! (Although, I'm not sure if that works for internet since I'm an Android newb).

Not sure anyone cares or follows Phonedog.com but he stated Rumor is June 6th release and $199.99 on contract, $599.99 no contract.

Does that make it ok to release another one that has a bad radio? if this is what has happened here HTC needs to step up and put better equipment in their phones. If it's something that just gives us better service and better battery life then that's great but HTC's last 2 big releases have had issues with that. I'm sure you are aware google has stopped trying to find software fixes for the N1 on tmobile because it's a hardware problem, some tried to blame it on Tmobile but all of the other phones that I've seen tested next to the N1 worked just fine in the same spots where the N1 struggled to pick up a signal.

How many dropped calls have you had with your EVO? Relax the phone hasn't been released yet, ROI said it may be problem, no one that does have the phone has mentioned any problem with calls. I'm sure when the phone does come out there will be something to complain about, just not yet

Keep in mind that "bars" might not always indicate quality of service...if I have 2 bars and you 5 - but we can both make a clear call, and it doesn't drop, it's not a problem for me.

I was just hoping someone knew a phone with really good reception.

So I could search for the mw of it, to compare to the evo radio.

I was thinking it was not the first time the radio was used and hoping to find it again in the records.

Oh I understand that but it just seems odd that their last 2 big releases have had issues with reception either dropping to edge or the "bars" thing on the incredible. I know the bars thing is kinda iffy being that you can still do fine with voice on 1 bar but it can also slow down ur data speeds from what I'm told. I do know when I tried the hero at the sprint store the call quality was actually worse than on my crappy instinct so it kinda made me worry a bit about HTC phones, it sounded really hollow and "tinny" and even though the instinct has that issue as well the Hero I tried was worse. I really really hope the Evo is great at everything it does, I just don't want to be all hyped for a phone then get it and find out the call quality is blah.

K cool, and I didn't mean for that to sound rude if it did either, I read it again and could see how it could be taken that way so I apologize if it was.

I'm sure your understanding of all this is much greater than mine, so if you find the info you are looking for and can compare it and get a good idea of what's going on let us all know :)

Pyro~

I just think your knowledge is spot on and how refreshing it is to converse with someone out side my JET team. I want to first thank you on my ability to explain little about cell phone processors. I still would like to go on the record that I am a PC processors engineer and doing the best I can to put the pieces together.

First, let me give you uber kudos, cuz you are correct, with regard to the die size of a Snapdragon processor .45 nanometers! (Those that care, same die size of a Nvidia 285 GPU)

The Snapdragon processor has built in DSP (Digital Signal Processor), 3g radio, built in Wifi, and for EVO exclusive 720p codec, 3d GPU, and GPS processor, and a host of other stuff.

I make processors that just do computing and when I look under a microscope with all that stuff listed above...I am truly amazed...I look at it (Not Snapdragon, something similar) and all fits on on your pinkie nail!!!

Back to your post...I am impressed with you knowledge and you are correct. THe total die size of a Snapdragon processor is about .45nm, including all the stuff listed above. The .13nm would be the Snapdragon core CPU micro architecture. I was only able to find Samsung Humminbird core process specs using .35nm process technology and that is rather large for today standards, witch is the equal, to Intel p III microprocessors chip (ca.1997)

I guess to finish you question. Further die size has nothing to do with the ability to transfer data. to certain extent. Die size is more in the ability to transfer...(Okies Jocks hit me) electrons. If you have one metal layer (Copper (Cu)) or what ever your processor is made out of. That electron has to travels to whatever transistor that is going to in order to give a (Yes/No) signal. Then let

um...I'm on Sprint and I DO have a SIM card ... FWIW

Dave
if you have a world phone then your special. sprint has 2 kind of phones. regular CDMA and WCDMA which does GSM by swapping the radio signal with a push of a button using the program on your phone. evo however is only going to be CDMA. no GSM sim card slot, which means, it's not a world phone

some sprint phones that do international roaming do both GSM and CDMA and thus have a sim card, although reports say that the evo does not do international roaming.
i don't think this is right... without sim card you can still roam, but with simcard you can purchase a prepaid to use when your out of the country...

my 2 yr old HTC Diamond on windows mobile can roam in japan, hong kong, and etc. it does not have a sim card

I hate to think this but I have a feeling the evo will have it's "special plan" not even the Everything or simply everything is gonna do it. As long is it is the same price plan then I am good - but if they try to raise the price plan for the EVO.......then I am done with Sprint!! Hello T-mobile and the HD2!

hey, that didn't stop AT&T and the iphone....

lol, good bye...
t-mo service sucks. worst than ATT

Ok so isotropic radiation. Great subject, especially on percoset lol.

So our phones can tan now?

Sorry River, I had a broken wrist not to long ago, but the pain killers are.....great!

Back on topic, are there any links you care to share on this subject? I would think there are more variables than erip? Signal to noise maybe?

uhmm... so my question is, what happen to bluescreen and rebella? house got raided? we haven't heard from them since their leak! gosh, this is getting exciting. i do a page refresh every so often to see if there's news. my refresh button will probably die before anything on my computer

I have the HTC Desire that was released in Europe and I am using it on T-Mobile USA and my radio is fine.
