Quick question: do I have to currently have a sprint account to preorder the Evo at Best Buy? I'm on ATT right now, but will be canceling that and signing up for Sprint as soon as the Evo is out. Wondering if I can still preorder and just do the whole carrier switch when the Evo is actually released.

Yes you can preorder the phone before switching and then have them port your number over to Sprint, if you wish to keep the same number that is.

People are so quick to jump. Once I get a handle on what I'm looking at, I'll have a better idea. Everyone is calling Hess a liar, but if he did say we wouldn't pay more for 4g service then he wouldn't be lying if plans dropped by $10 and the Premium Data charge gets added in. Maybe as the time approaches they then go public with the price decrease. With the eventual shift of premium phones to 4g, they're still getting the same money per month from their premium customers in the long run, no?

And I also think the $10 charge shows up separately so it is not included in one's discount calculation.

Bingo. That's what I asked many posts ago. The fact the $10 might very well NOT be discounted. SO...who knows for certain?!

I doubt it. Your only chance might be to get the phone and then during the 30 day return period call, ask for retention, and threaten to cancel unless you get a credit because it's cheaper w/ TMobile or something. Seems like alot of work and a little shady though.

Why? I intend to do the same thing as a new customer. Not going to quote other carriers' prices. Simply going to ask for the same credit every other existing customer seems to be receiving. (non 4G area)

Right?

Omg your right.

You know what, I'll represent you on this. We need to escalate this matter to a higher place.

It's high time we show them we mean business. Don't lose that receipt. It's important evidence. Ok ?

I'll represent you on this. . . . . . . .

The EVO data pricing is a segway into the additional cost for Wimax among other improvements..

Sprint is spending Billions on 3g and 4g improvements, they want to recoup the money..

Wimax will cost less than LTE to build out..

I can't wait to see what Verizon and ATT are going to charge for their 4g services..

If you guys think Sprint is bending you over stick with ATT and Verizon and post back when 4g rolls out on the other networks with pricing..

Yeah the fees suck but for the eventual coverage, features and comparison to what it will cost on other networks it will be a steal..

There is nothing to compare it to right now because. Sprint is the only network that has it..

Trying doing the price comparisons when the other networks finally get 4g services..

I agree. Also, when I'm talking with some of my friends who have iPhones, some of them think that the soon to be released iPhone "4G" will give them 4G speeds like the htc EVO 4G is getting. I have to politely inform them that the iPhone "4G" is just the "4th Generation" iPhone and has nothing to do with, and should not be confused with, 4G WiMax that Sprint is launching with the EVO.

I'm just patiently/impatiently waiting for the EVO 4G.

That has been my pet peeve since the "leaked" photos of the new iPhone was released. Even worse when so called, professional bloggers called it the iPhone 4G...it is not 4G under technical terms.

And trust me AT&T and Verizon will rape their customers when they finally have 4G services.

Hell look at the Kin being released on Verizon, and the MANDATORY $30 Data add on fee to use it. Dont feel like finding the link for it again. But Verizon's spin on it is, that the Kin will be giving users date advancement that justifies the price...sound familiar?

30, compared to the 10 for the EVO, we are getting a steal, for a far better phone.

Man...that was soooo easy. Just got off the phone with sprint and they will discount my monthly plan by $10 once I get the EVO. I went on sprint chat and they couldn't do the $10 monthly credit for 24 months and they confirmed that yes i should call retention department. The rep in retention knew what was going on. He said he had done like 40 so far. I pre-ordered the EVO this morning from Best Buy so when I go to pick it up the sprint rep said all they have to do is activate the phone and I am all good!!! Hopefully this will all go through without a hitch

I will be paying the same as right now with my junk BB pearl and getting more value. Bring on the EVOlution

do you think there's any way a new customer can do something like this? like say i was ready to buy the EVO but when this new phantom charge came out that i'll probably go in another direction now? cuz THAT'D be sweet

i like it. this is what i'll try. i have no shame in shadyness.

another question (semi off topic).

i have 1 coworker who has a pre with sprint. she doesn't get 3G in a lot of the places in our work building. is there a chance that its just the radio/receiver/whatever in her phone, and that the EVO's will be better and i'll be able to get 3G? or is that just a sign about sprints coverage in this building? if it affects 3G, i hope it doesn't affect 4G in the building

If she is getting a signal It's odd that she can't get 3g, I would have the phone checked out..

Note: it could also be a tower issue

The EVO may get better reception than the Pre..

4g Building penetration right now is not as good as 3g but they are working on a fix for that it may or may not work..

Another thing could be that the PRL on the PRE needed to be updated. After every OS update, you need to update Network settings and PRL, just in case.

PRL, although not 100% sure, was to check for new tower signals to get more strength.

Hopefully, the EVO has a strong 3G radio since it is also WiMax.

I will be ok with getting spotty 4G signals, depending on where im at, as long as Im getting great 3G.

Just a general question, which goes along with how Sprint might advertise the EVO....but has any one seen any oommercials for the Droid Incredible?

I only watch sports, but all I ever see is the regular Droid commercials, the new buy one get one free ones.....ive yet to see an Incredible commercial.

Has there been any particular reason to that? Is it slighty due to them still trying to push the Droid or the fact that the EVO spec wise beats it every way?

I've had the Pre since day one and I always felt the radio was crappy. On Precentral forums others have complained about it as well.
