***Official G-Nex first impressions thread*** Love it? Hate it?

can you guys tell me how you got your apps from you old phone on to the gnex without downloading them all again from the market? i thought they were all backed up?

also, can you turn off the key stroke vibrate in the SMS app and on the lock screen?

To turn off vibrate go into the language and keyboard in the settings and un-check vibrate, then go into sound in the settings and turn off the vibrate there too.

appreciate it. any way to do the same for the lock screen?

how did you transfer your apps?

EDIT: there is no language and keyboard selection on the nexus. its "language and input" and there is no option for turning off the key stroke vibrate..

IMO I think before we post, we should mention what phone we've upgraded from. As this has a large effect on how we feel about the GNEX.

Upgraded from: Droid X

I love the phone. Honestly i havent put in much time with it( got it in my hand by 1030). But the screen, feel, and function of this baby has all lived up to my hype. The 4g has been spotty here at my job, but it has never been that great for any employees, at&t or verizon.

But one thing i noticed...what happended to that "unlock" bootloader icon when u boot the phone up.. did my Verizon wireless CSR already bypass that when activating my phone? And unlocking the bootloader doesnt necessarily mean its rooted... right?

OK, so I ran into some major complications getting my phone this morning. I made post dated changes to my account that ended up giving everyone headaches. In the end I received the exact same phone that they activated for me last Friday. Lol

So far I love everything about the phone except the reception. This was my one and only concern and it turns out that my concerns were justified. I'm getting pretty weak signal in place I was getting amazing signal on the Rezound. We are talking -102 dBm and 38 asu vs -79 dBm and 8 asu here. This is a huge difference. My Fascinate was recently corrected with the update to Gingerbread and I'm hoping that an update will fix this as well.

Beyond that, the phone is simply amazing. Fast, smooth, powerful, beautiful and a whole bunch of other adjectives that are good.

EDIT: See my new impressions here

I love my Nexus more than I love my own children!! (Just kidding! I dont have children, lol) Quick question though.... Is there ANY way that anyone can think of to save game data without rooting? I don't care if it's risky, expensive, whatever.... Just really need it done, so I'm desperate. Thanks in advance!

Love the phone but I am not impressed by signal strength. Much worse than my rent-a-rezound was.

Are you telling that by dB number in setting or signal bar? It might have no bearing on actual reception if you don't experience dropped calls, data loss and can browse web fast enough.

dB number and the fact that it won't hold an LTE signal. I am well aware that the little pictures at the top of my screen mean nothing :)

Have you done speed test of LTE on both phone? Is Gnex slower than Rezound?

Yup. Not hard to determine when the Gnex struggles to hold an LTE signal in the same place I had a strong LTE signal on the Rezound. My LTE speeds are borderline 3g right now (2+ up).

Long time lurker here. I just upgraded from from my OG Droid and I can't help but feel a little bit let down.

Let me explain. I've been waiting for this phone to come out for a while as have most of you on this forum. I was expecting this phone to blow my OG out of the water in all areas, but it just doesn't. Let me break it down:

Screen: GN. Amazing, huge, vibrant. No complaints here.
Graphics: GN. Dual core processor + hardware acceleration makes for some pretty 3D rendering.
"Smoothness": GN. Smooth as silk, especially compared to my jumpy, laggy Droid.
Reception: OG. -91 dB vs -109 dB side by side. Also the Wifi and GPS signals seem to be stronger as well.
Build Quality: OG. Feels better in the hand. Only requires one hand to use and I never worried about dropping it like I do with the GN.
UI: Draw. (ICS vs. Gingerbread via CM7) I'm honestly not in love with ICS yet. Maybe I'll get used to it, but I really hate what they did with folders. They limit you to 16 items in a folder. I want to put all my games in one folder but I have more than 16. All the other differences seem pretty cosmetic.

I'm having other issues that are just frustrating. I can't get Visual Voicemail to work. I wanted to test the phone by using WatchESPN (which my OG can't handle) but I can't seem to get that working either. Flash, Swype and other apps that I would like to use don't work for this phone yet. These issues will likely get resolved over time, but I've waited so long for this phone and I guess I'm tired of waiting.

Sorry to rain on the parade. Rant over.

yupt .. completely agree. that was also my main concern ... and one of the reasons why the rezound was so attractive. will do more testing at home.

beyond that .. it is ALL good.

so ... we shall see . . .

I can say that my signal is weak, I can't break 10mpbs download (hover in the 7-7.7 range), my upload is around 10 though.

My biggest gripe right now is some games presenting some lag (WWF, HWF), I haven't tested all of my games just those two and the screen lags when I first open it and I actually had a freeze and almost had to force close it. I'm assuming this will be fixed when devs update for the Nexus device, figure they should have done this before release though.

Also all live wallpapers make the phone too laggy, I haven't found one that doesn't effect the phone so I stuck with a normal wallpaper.

I absolutely LOVE the glass. Redefines the word "smooth" and wipes clean with glance, I swear.
I absolutely LOVE the way the phone looks with the screen off...the black monolithic first impression that falls away upon closer inspection to the cool irridescence buried inside. Freaking sci-fi pr0n.

I'm still coming to terms with the ergonomics but it's not bad, just different. Still wish the power button was higher up or on top. I think being a lefty exaggerates this. Putting the phone to sleep with my right hand works fine, but in my left the volume button falls right under my thumb.

I like the weight. It just enough to be reassuring.

Hopefully the paint holds up. If not, I'm good with an airbrush.

Some of the tweaks in ICS are brilliant. (Read "about damn time"). I especially like the app switching that now properly maintains data once focus is lost..like when switching between the browser and phandroid app cutting and pasting image links...or similar. Being able switch orientation without losing the keyboard is also nice.

I just got my GNex yesterday, unlocked and on T-Mobile! This contraption is soooo fast, it's such a difference from my old Nexus One.

I have only one complaint and it is strictly a visual thing: I find the default system font, Roboto, *boring*. It really kinda sucks. I am disappointed that they abandoned the Droid font, but they had their reasons as explained here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/114892667463719782631/posts/Cd19zBRYon2

Unfortunately, I am not impessed with Roboto, it just doesn't have enough character(pun intended). It doesn't seem to have enough "meat on it's bones".

Other than that, I am loving ICS, the speed, folders, and the ridiculously beautiful screen!

Have fun everyone!

I love it so far, such an upgrade. From an OG Droid.. 4G is amazing. I had about a 5 minute drive from the Verizon store to a coffee shop I was stopping in and it downloaded and installed dozens of apps I've bough recently in that span. Crazy.

One thing I'm a bit worried about is the headphone jack, mine seems to make random soft popping sounds when I'm using the UI and such, it seems its right before the tiny 4.0 interaction sounds.. so not sure if it's a bug or something wrong with the jack.

I was the first one to get it at my store, we had a line of 10+ people, bigger than the guy activating my phone thought.

Anyway as far as the phone goes I love it. Face unlock works almost perfectly, I have unlocked the phone probably 40 times now and have only had to use my pattern 3 times. Only issue is it doesn't work sideways, so when it's in my car dock I have to use the pattern, not a big deal though.

Camera is nice but the pictures uploaded to Google+ were smaller than expected.

Screen is beautiful but I have seen some image retention from one game, was only there for a split second. I also see some straight lines that are slightly darker than the rest of the screen, these aren't visible most of the time, and hard to notice when they are. I have seen them in Google+ and Facebook's app. If anyone else has noticed this could you please let me know otherwise I may have to exchange it within the 14 days...

I love this phone though, it's going to be hard to let it go 2 years from now.

I have the same question with apps transferring, but I'm not sure if it is a nexus issue. Every time previously when I have factory reset my device or set up a new one the market only recognizes about 1/3 of the apps I had previously installed. This is a pain because I have to remember, then find each app in the market that I had on my previous device. Any ideas? I was under the impression that all apps that were installed should be recognized when I open up the market on my new device.

After playing with it all morning I am more than happy with the GN. I am coming from a rooted, ROM'ed Thunderbolt with an extended battery. So far the battery on the GN seems a little weak (I'm at 83% after 2 hours since I unplugged), which is to be expected from a LTE device, I will need to get an extended battery for sure.

The screen is fantastic, couldn't ask for more. I'm finding everything to be insanely fast and smooth, even with live wallpapers. My reception has been really good, although I'm judging it against a TB which had TERRIBLE reception. I just ran three Speed tests and got download speeds of: 18, 15 and 14 and upload speeds of 15, 13 and 13 so I can't complain about the LTE speed in the least.

ICS is fantastic so far, the GMail and browser upgrades are wonderful, and I really like the way you can kill programs.

All in all I can not say enough good things about the phone. (haven't tested the camera though)

I must be one of the few that isn't completely enamoured with the screen. I like it. It's adequate. I just don't LOVE it. The pentile isn't a concern and the resolution is excellent...I guess I'm just not a AMOLED guy. The off-axis color shift irritates me and the low-brightness noise/linen-effect/sparkle irritates me. Nothing I can't get used to, but I never had to "get used to" anything WRT to the OG Droid screen. It was nearly faultless, frankly.
