***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I wonder how many would purchase the phone outright if they offered it. I know when Google first launched the N1 you could only purchase it through them. It probably was not the best rout to take for them, but it was nice to skip the carriers. Since I paid full price for my N1 I would gladly do the same now and deal with the bugs to bypass this migraine that Verizon is causing.

Just a thought because sometimes people are willing to pay more for less stress.

Eek :eek:

ok was 1st on this one BB

Cause I was lookin for the pic I posted. :D

Yes, I think that's part of the curriculum in most health classes now.

"How to beam responsibly."

Make sure you both have screen protectors.

I know, I know, all the kids say only one needs it, but trust me, you don't want that nasty scratch always there, reminding you of that stupid Beam session you wish you could take back.

LMAO!!!!

I was NOT being dirty!

But I like the way you think ;)

If it can be misconstrued in some gutter-ish way, I'll find it.

I'd like to add my own considered insight below this quoted thread:

Please allow me to pinch hit here, Steven may choose to say more later (or not).

Inside sources typically have their jobs on the line if caught.

For that reason, we always shy away from any public discussions of vetting.

Also, when reading any insider info, there are a number of factors for readers to consider, vetting is just one - but it all comes down to credibility.

When bringing insider info forward, be it staff or any member - or having self-claimed insiders come forward on their own - AndroidForums.com has an official policy on this, I'll paraphrase it to remove staff references, however, the paraphrasing is dead accurate:

The information and claims are laid open to our community. We expect the wisdom of the community working together to determine the final truth. If you accept or reject a source's credibility, that is your protected right here at AF. Just don't hate about it and don't engage in arguments about credibility or vetting - that it makes it personal and is not about issues. :)

The basic idea where a mod is concerned is don't trust us if we say it because we're staff - treat us per normal as members here like yourself (QFT: we are members first and just volunteers doing a temporary job on staff) and use your own judgement to place your trust.

~~~~~~~~~
Having completed the staff statements, here are my personal views.
  • Steven is no one's fool, he's a mondo good guy
  • Clearly, Admin (Phases) has sufficient trust to back Steven's play on this thread
  • Clearly, the site owner (Rob) has sufficient trust to accept Steven's source for Phandroid articles
  • Corporations can, have and will vet quislings to torpedo us - quasi-sources whose sole purpose is to spread disinformation
  • Corporations can, have and will distribute disinfo or bent information so they can track and fire employees leaking information
  • In every corporation, there is one person high enough up to make a final determination on things like a release date (with support from those below handling the various components of logistics for the release)
    • That guy is the one whose head we want into
    • Information changes - No plan survives engagement with the enemy
    • A fully credible insider's information is only valid for the time he gives it - information changes
Steven's no fool. ;)
Hope this helps! :)
PS -
Quoted for truth!
What he said. :p
I would. To be guaranteed it works directly from Google - they twisted at the mere thought.
The reason why Verizon has not announced anything regarding this phone and the rest of the world is releasing it is pretty obvious
1) They are bloating the phone - Although Apple and the iPhone get perfect treatment, updates from apple, no pre-installed verizon apps whatsoever, they couldn't care less about Google. They see the money in the iPhone and giving Apple what they want, and the decision is made.
2) They are desperately trying to sell the Droid RAZR. Verizon and Motorola have always had a good relationship, and this particular phone furthers both the Droid and the RAZR brand names.
What they want is for people to cave, to give in and say "I'm getting a RAZR". It is a more profitable device for them and their brand. Honestly, I would not be the least bit surprised to see the released date pushed way past December 8th. From their perspective, we are all a flock of potential RAZR owners. The longer they hold onto the Nexus, the more people will jump off the Nexus bandwagon.
That is all true, but while it may not be lucrative this go around, Verizon risks never having a Google flagship phone on its network again. The next time, they may need it. Google and whatever manufacturers it chooses are not going to be pushed around again and again by a carrier, no matter how good their network is. I fully believe the higher ups at Verizon realize this, but they really are in a no win situation considering HTC and Motorola released two high end phones in the same month already.
On a side note, those of you who are trying to defend VZW in saying they have done nothing wrong... *Sigh*. Correct, they have not yet broken any promises. But that does not mean they shouldn't be held to a higher standard. When they are the exclusive carrier of a phone announced months ago, and the rest of the world is receiving it, it is just abusive to do what Verizon is doing. Not a lie, not illegal, but definitely abusive and shameless.
I think it's safe to say there is no need to specify you are speaking "on a side note" when you post here. :D
So on happier topics, when we do get the GNex, what is the first thing you are going to do with it.
Make a phone call, browse web, pictures, use it to iron your wrinkely shirt after waiting in front of the store for 3 days?
I am going to use the camera,especially the pornographic setting...............what? Oh its a panaramic setting. I ll play Angry Birds on it then.
ROFLM-non-Nexus-havin'-AO!
My Darling Bride couldn't work Beam! Sad to say this, and I love her and all, but methinks a Jitterbug would confound her. She's technologically declined, to say the least :p
Same with my lady. She's been rocking a Samsung Intensity for close on two years now, and had the classic LG Voyager before that. :rolleyes:
2) They are desperately trying to sell the Droid RAZR. Verizon and Motorola have always had a good relationship, and this particular phone furthers both the Droid and the RAZR brand names.
Before the Atrix, I might not have had much issue with your line of thought. Verizon essentially saved Motorola Mobility with the Droid, and Motorola saved Verizon's sales year by giving them a legitimate smart phone that people weren't embarrassed to carry, or did not want/couldn't switch to AT&T for an iPhone.
There is no loyalty in big business. It turned out that the Atrix was awful, but at the time, Motorola essentially gave an extremely technically superior phone to Verizon's chief competitor who had shown zero love for Android, Motorola, or open systems.
I thought at this point, the RAZR sales point and bloatware has been dismissed.
Verizon is installing a total of 2 apps to the phone, and in the future, even iPhones will get these apps as well.
If RAZR sales were so important, they never would have released the Rezound 3 days later.
So I take from this you are not going to be picking up your GNex this week as earlier reported
Never said I was...said it was reported in these forums it would be available today.
The rep lead me to believe they had them in back, now I'm thinking maybe she did this just to prevent me from returning the Razr. I am probably returning it tonight and going with AT&T.
The idea that VZW could fix everything by just being "more transparent" sounds nice, but it just isn't realistic. For two reasons.
First, it wouldn't actually help anything. I guarantee that if they put out a press release explaining the reasons for the delay, there would immediately be responses from people saying "I call BS. They're just delaying it because they want to sell more RAZRs" or whatever. We've already seen that reaction to the e-mail responses some people have gotten. So why bother?
Second, no corporation works that way. You don't voluntarily announce that one of your products is faulty and then explain exactly what's wrong with it. Especially since the vast majority of Verizon's customers are NOT all that concerned about the Nexus (most customers won't know about it until it's available). Why tell people in advance: "We've got this great new phone coming, but it's got problems!" Far better to just wait until you have a product that works, and then announce it to the world.
It's also unrealistic to say "I don't care if there are bugs! Just release it and fix the bugs later!" In saying that, you're forgetting that customer service is a HUGE expense for a company like Verizon. Each and every customer-service call they receive costs them a certain number of dollars. Developing and pushing out an OTA costs money. Fixing the problems that inevitably arise when an OTA fails on somebody's device costs money. It would be foolish and irresonsible for Verizon to knowingly release a device that has bugs.
Verizon's official position has always been:
- We're going to release the Galaxy Nexus before the end of the year.
- We'll let you know when it's ready.
I don't see where in there they have lied, jerked anybody around, played games, or behaved in any way unethically. It appears to me that they are acting like a responsible publicly-traded corporation should act.
thank you for typing exactly what many of us actually think. the people complaining are really a slight few compared to VZW entire customer base. This whole "i gotta have it now, if not i am pissed and it is everyone elses fault" attitude is exactly what is wrong with our economy. People have no patience and want things now at the cost of everyone else.....housing crunch anyone.....its the bankers fault...i want a bigger house now...just shows how our society really is.
I do think it sucks that we have to wait but the phone will be better, service better, bugs less....how bout you get a phone today and it does not work....then how pissed are you
