***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I highly recommend the TPU Case from Samsung Galaxy Nexus : TPU-CASES.COM, - All TPU Cases Shipped Free in the USA. I purchased one for my Droid Bionic, and it blows away any other case I've tried. And they are extremely inexpensive (how can you go wrong for < $10?).

I have no association with the company - I only know about them because I was searching everywhere for a decent look/feel case for my bionic with the extended battery. Someone pointed out TPU-Cases over on XDA.

Anyway, I've already ordered mine in anticipation of Verizon releasing the phone. I spoke with the owner of TPU because I wanted to make sure that their cases account for the additional thickness of the LTE GNex. He told me that it was actually molded for the LTE version, but also fits nicely on the GSM version.

This looks pretty good, I might grab one. Anyone seen anything with a kickstand by chance?

I know replacement parts are expensive, but isn't it a slap in the customers face when a part costs more than buying a new one.

Also serves as a good reminder of how much we might be paying for our toys if it weren't for armies of robots and cheap labor. :( Should have seen how much Sony techs in Laredo, TX wanted to charge me to replace a transformer in a clock radio.

...This is the first (and last) off-topic thread in the Galaxy Nexus forum. Once the GNex finally makes its appearance on Verizon normal service will be resumed. There's a whole Lounge sub-area for non-technical chitchat.

Not to worry, some room full of geniuses at Google is already ankle-deep into hashing out next year's device. There'll be a Nexus 4S pre-release thread before the shine wears off our new phones -- just (hopefully) not as protracted as this.

Yeah, but we will have the last laugh once this thing finally hits on Verizon. The LTE is going to be blazing fast on this beauty!!
If you haven't used LTE, you're in for a ride! If the GN is at least as fast as my Bionic, I'll be thrilled. Even 3G speeds are faster than my Droid (RAM and processor probably make a huge difference)

So long as the battery isn't equally fast!
Most of the pre-release leaks have said battery life has been fine. If it can get me through the day away from the charger, I'll be happy. I'm finding myself just plugging it in when I get to work for now so I don't have to worry about it.

And for that, it's my first multi-quote! :):o
And, I thank this thread for showing me how to do it. First search on AF came here! I'll be adding a much older thanks to this post...

One more reason why we have some of the best Mods and Guides than any other forum. :D

LCD is just so awful, and the difference is even more dramatic when compared side by side with AMOLED.

What I find most mind boggling is iPhone 4/S users going crazy about their screens... Even a Galaxy S 800x480 screen looks better, AMOLED *IS* that good. Can't wait to see the denial when I pull out a Nexus and compare them side by side.

Has anyone checked with a Verizon store to see if they will honor the Living Social voucher if you already have a discount (NE2, Loyalty, % off accessories, etc...)????

That would be my worry. Not being able to combine that with other offers. You can always make multiple purchases I guess if they don't allow you to combine them.

And that's why "thanks" are worthless..

People give them out like candy in this thread.

Just as dumb as milestone posts now. Good job guy.

Does it REALLY devalue all of our thanks or just 3vil's? I never really thought about it but my "God Bless You" when someone sneezes is probably worthless too.

I was going to buy mine, except they don't take Paypal. I don't know that site, and it seems like one big marketing ploy. They won't be getting my card info. $25 isn't that serious.

After looking at it more closely - I thought the exact same thing. I am going to pass :):)

It's funny - the only step in the process I took was putting in my Gmail address (no other information), and within 30 minutes I got a gmail message saying "Someone in your family has died, and your are the sole inheritor, blah, blah, blah". It is an obvious inheritance scam, but I thought the coincidence was odd to say the least. I've never gotten anything like that in the past.

I've read wayyyy too much of this thread to never post in it, so...

I was using a BlackBerry Tour up until April or so when I got so frustrated with the trackball sticking that I bought a used Droid on eBay. I knew there were much better phones available, but I decided to get it since it was cheap (and I knew I wouldn't have it for a long time) and it wasn't locked down. Since then I've been waiting for another Android phone that gave me the ability to do what I want with it and was instantly sold on the Galaxy Nexus. I just wish the damn thing would be released already...

Anyways, I have a few questions.

  1. I'm on a family plan with Verizon, but my line is not the primary number. Both lines are eligible for an upgrade, but the primary line also has a $100 credit on it. Do you think Verizon will allow me to use that credit to upgrade my line? My name is listed as an account manager so I don't think that should be an issue. The website would have allowed me to swap upgrades before, but that's no longer an option since both are upgradable.

  2. If Verizon does allow us to pre-order, is it possible to do that over the phone? I would rather unbox it myself but I know if I order online there's no way I can use that $100 credit.

  3. I guess nobody can really answer without getting an LTE model, but what are the best cases for this phone? Ideally I would get a hard, very thin case that would be mostly used to protect against scratches. I definitely don't want anything bulky -- one of my co-workers just got an iPhone 4S and has a case that makes it like two inches thick which is pretty ridiculous.

  4. Are there any screen protectors that allow you to remove/re-apply them easily? I had one on my BlackBerry that I put on a little bit crooked and it always drove me crazy.

Thanks!

P.S. I'm glad the scottyg on this forum isn't a pain. There was one with a similar username on another forum I visit that made me borderline homicidal. ;)

same one

it may be the same as the ne2, but i don't think so. it came as "coupon" attached to a VZW mailer...

I see a lot of people talk about loyalty credit on top of NE2. I have one of those cards too, but I would tend to think they are just NE2. Look at the bottom right of the coupon and see it says "NE2#." Mine says "NE25", thus meaning "New Every 2, $50"

sorry if this has been addressed. I am just speculating that it is the same, as other have too.

So a couple thoughts I figured I'd share with all you late nighters.

First, just played with my cousins 4s and I have to say the camera is pretty impressive. Goes to further the idea that MP aren't the end all because we took a couple of the same pictures and his pictures looked great and the ones from my incredible look like garbage (8MP garbage mind you :D).

Second, with that being said, in looking at some of the pictures posted online from the SGN, I'm not sure the camera can hold its own against the 4S... I really really wanted it to be as good, but sadly it just doesn't seem like it's the same quality of sensor as the fruit companies product.

And finally (sorry I know this is long, but if I don't post it now I'll fall asleep and forget) once this phone does come out, where does everyone go once they close this thread?? I still want to hang out with everyone and nerd out over our different experiences and mods.

We go to ALL of the other GNex threads - depending on what concerns, issues, questions, you may have. :)

Some people think this is the only thread, but there are dozens of others :D

Good morning, Nexlings! I won't be in here much today; got some family stuff going on. Wish the weather in Chicago would cooperate, but at least the cold has been kept at bay for the most part.

Hope you all have a great day! Will check in from time to time in case anything amazing happens, which I highly doubt.

That's kinda what my guess was; I called it a "reminder." I was thinking of calling the phone number on it, just to be sure... it's not very nice of them changing the "name" of the discount.

What's creepier to me is the other little numbers, on the bottom left, they happen to be the first three of my social security number, on mine.
