***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

The most common argument Bionic fans are using to defend it against Prime, Vigor is that "if you wait for something better coming later, you will have to wait forever". Funny thing is they are the same folks who ignored verizon sales people trying to sell them Charge, Revo, DX2 for several months with the same argument while waiting on Bionic.

It's true something better is always in future. But to me difference between Bionic and Prime far outweighs a few months of waiting and I don't think anything drastically better is coming in 2~3 months after prime. Phones like SGS3 won't be here until summer next year and I can't wait that long.

Agreed. Although I do think quad-core phones will be here by next summer, along with second gen LTE chipsets (Krait, 28 nm), all of which will greatly improve battery life and thinness of devices, I don't think apps or roms will fully utilize more than 2 cores for at least a couple of years, and I can live with battery issues if there are extended batteries available.

ICS, HD screen, and buttonless design will be more than enough to get me through 2 years, and will most likely last me long enough to wait if nothing I like is available at my next upgrade date.

On the previous topic of the droidguy's weird rumor, this is a comment from his website.
Somebody needed hits on their site, and got it by resorting to flat out lies. Gee, looks like a Nexus S? Wow, what a shocker that Nexus would keep to the same type of design that Samsung did before. How about the metal vs. plastic body? How about screen res? How about screen size? How about color, trim, accents, shape, slope of device, battery size, ANYTHING WE DIDN'T ALREADY KNOW!!

And what did we get from you? Oh, it has a power button and a volume rocker? HOLY CRAP that's a scoop!

BS liars. Am never reading droidguy again, and am going to totally trash you on the 18 forums I belong to. You screwed the pooch on this one, pal! :-(
Harsh! Given that this commenter is from 18 forums, who here wrote it? :p

It doesn't come across as something Chief would say, and it wasn't me!

Edit: Sandroidfan was the first one here to call BS on Droidguy (#923). Hmmm, my gray cells are working. Come on, Sandroidfan, it's ok. You can tell us. ;)

Glad I wasn't the only one who saw through the load of crap. This is what I was talking about in another thread. The more coverage these guys get the more it encourages others to do the same. Now we are getting wild tales of clandestine meetings in hotels between perfect strangers showing off unreleased phones. What's next? The Prime being spotted in Area 51......

^No not I, for TWO reasons:

(a) 18 Forums? EIGHTEEN? Sorry, even I have more of a life than that! I couldn't keep up with that many forums, anyway.

(b) Life is too short to deal with A-holes. I would not that much waste time or mental energy on anyone who "screwed the pooch". Move on. :)

(a): You got that right! This is the only forum I belong to, and it's more than enough.

(b): I, on the other hand, do have the time to waste on any a-holes who engage in pooch-screwing as I wish, given my boring line of work sitting in front of a computer all day. But I usually prefer a more subtle attack, rather than full-frontal.

But if it DOES come out next month with Gingerbread, I'll still be happy to retire this OG Droid with dignity.

The proper OG Droid funeral.

Quad core, 2nd gen LTE next summer, huh? Hmm... (Steven things this over.) ;)

My OG Droid does deserve an awesome funeral pyre like that. Unfortunately, I can't afford it. I will most likely take it out behind the shed and, well, you know.

I'd prefer this method...

Well, you can burn or launch yours if you like: since she is in such pristine condition (gold camera button and all), my beloved Droid will be decommissioned, cleaned, put in her original box and retired to my memory chest. And in my sunset years I will take her out and show my grandkids the phone that started the Android revolution.

By then they'll be saying "Cell phones? What are those? You mean people didn't always have these chips in their heads?"

@P3Droid
P3Droid
If what im hearing is true then I may cross the nexus prime off my christmas list.

My response to P3: Buzz Kill.

The G1 WAS the first Android phone, I grant you; but the real revolution and popularity of Android didn't happen until the Motorola Droid.

@Steven: WTH did P3Droid hear? Why is it coming off his list???

That HTC Vigor is looking sharp.

If Prime isn't out in mid-November, I might very well cave in and get this. I don't consider it settling as much as I did the Bionic.

Warning , just a bit of OT here:

You know it's funny. I have seen several "the Vigor looks great" type comments since this "leaked" pic. To me it's just another black slab. When I see some new phones with continued uninspired design by manufacturers nowadays, it makes me wonder why the comments about their looks are so favorable.

It's not that the pic of the supposed Vigor (or others) look bad, they don't - they look fine. IMO, most of the new designs however don't look "great" "inspired", "sharp", or much else to me. Again they are not bad, but from the comments they generate one would think differently.

While I a going down this OT road, I will mention again my apprehension about how usable a UI without physical or capacitive buttons can possibly be on a small display. I really anticipate usability issues, as well as wasted screen real estate. I know it works well for Honeycomb, I just don't want part of an already small 4" or 4.5 " display taken up by "buttons" that don't need to be there ..

That said I will be waiting, and probably buying the Prime since it still sounds great in spite of my concerns.

What's wrong with "just another monster phone"? I've had an OG Droid for nearly 2 years. I haven't had my FIRST monster phone yet! TouchWiz, crapware, whatever... bring it on!

Also from p3: Im pouring out this drink for the vzw nexus prime rip.

This is terrible news. P3Droid seems to be connected. He knew the SCH-i515 model number before anyone else.

I just hung up with my sister and she has no idea; she hasn't heard anything.

But I suppose we can

reads to me like he's simply commenting. I don't see any rumor or innuendo in this. When he does post rumors he really pushes the envelope. He's simply commenting in my opinion.

This doesn't seem like a simple comment:

This sounds like either Prime is dead in the water or it's going to bloated. Either way, disappointing.

Hmm... that's weird mine isn't showing up. I upgraded last on the release of the Incredible, which was either May or June of 2010... thus I assume my 1-year upgrade would be available around that time. I was granted a special "early upgrade" because it was my first android phone, but my actual yearly upgrade was available soon after that.

Man, I can't keep up with this thread lol. I got my last upgrade in July 2010, so if I have one now, I'd think you would too. Worth checking!

To people saying the physical button could be for safe mode: we already have tablets without physical buttons, and power + volume doesn't seem to be an issue there.

As far as it not being stock Android... well I'd prefer if it was, but I'll take it either way. My drop dead date for choosing a new phone is Christmas (because otherwise there *is* always something better eventually), and I still don't see there being a better option that the Prime out there, bloatware or no.
