***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

couldn't they just not make it available with stock you would have to download seperately or is that still not enough control for vzw

Well if you don't link a card to it I am pretty sure it won't do anything. So for those who don't like the idea, just don't link a card.

I despise NFC payments. Horrible horrible horrible idea. How in the world is this any easier then just taking a damn card out and swiping it. Lazy lazy people I swear. I wonder what they will charge merchants to be able to accept NFC payments. Just another method to steal money without providing a real service while invading our privacy by selling our recorded spending habbits to the highest bidder.

This debacle with Verizon wanting to get in on the theivery causing them to butt heads with google is only flaming my hatrid for the technology!

Ill bite.

While I agree with Hans right above me that it is a bit gimmicky until more banks sighn up, I have a few things to say.

1) Google lets you use a generic Google card, meaning that if a place accepts good payments, you fund this virtual card and then use it to pay. This means really anyone can use it, just with a sort of middleman.

2) Even if taking out a card is equally easier, there is redundancy. I forget my wallet sometimes (maybe once or twice a quarter...not too bad). When I do that, I do not eat lunch or anything because I have no money. Now, if my phone was a makeshift wallet (again, we need more people signed on as both banks and merchants to make this real), then I would not have to worry. Redundant systems rarely fail redundantly, so it would be an in-case of emergency deal at worst.

3) I think using my phone to pay is easier than a card. There is a person in my college who, when he charges something, holds the card and stares it down until the ultra-slow machine gets authorization from the bank. Now, if I did not know him, it would freak me out that some guy was staring at my credit card number--a number I work hard to keep secret. For me to use my phone is easier and more secure (in a physical, NOT digital, sense).

not to come off as rude or change the subject, but they don't force you to use it. i can see benefits in it. say i forget my wallet or lose my wallet but i have my phone. i can still have a means to buy something that i might need.

You are exactly right! They don't force me to use it, and I certainly will not use it. That is why I could care less if the tech is in this phone.

Forcing me to use it is not why this is bothering me so much. The fact that stupid political battles like this always end up very BAD for us, the consumer. In this case, the negative impact for us is limited selection of devices if we want to stay with a particular carrier. For example, Verizon is backing Isis. The new Galaxy S 4 comes out and it is a google wallet device (ie, not Isis). Verizon refuses to allow the device to be made for its network.

We already have fragmented technologies (CDMA and GSM) and frequencies (diff bands on CDMA and GSM) here in the US causing this same issue.... we don't need more crap like this to reduce our device selection for a given carrier.

Steven58: If its not too early for me to be rattling the cage do you think you can ask the source about
*the 3rd vs the 10th (I would imagine your source can pull up the latest MAP list)
and
*about the ISIS story. Specifically was there infighting between Google and VZW over Wallet/ISIS on the phone? Dont ask If this has caused delays in the launch because honestly like its been discussed I dont think its going to stop the launch or delay the launch at this point. (so not dates but was there just fighting over wallet period)

Again thanks to you and the source and for going out of his way. <3 to you both.

If we needed expert qualifications to comment in this thread, it'd be mighty quiet. We're just a buncha doofuses curious about when our precious phone's coming out and babbling about it 'cuz we have nothing better to do on a Friday evening or whatever it is now in the EU.
Dude I am not a doofuses. I'm a flapass.

That would also mean you don't have a drivers' license with you. Which means you are driving illegally. Which means you can be arrested and subject to fines and/or impounding depending on your state or municipality. Which means you are a criminal.

Conclusion: Only criminals use Google Wallet.

Does anyone here really want to associate themselves with such?
lol:D
I must admit that google wallet doesn't seem to be that great only because of how limited the choice in payment methods. I happen to not have a citi mastercard.

I tend to think of our beloved Hans this way.

darn it! I accidentally deleted my picture and rant. . .ok, to sum up, I’m Han Solo, not Hans!

No offense, NKK, because you're like the 10th person to do it, but. . .

Dammit people I'm not Swedish. It's Han. Not Hans. Not Hands. Not Ha. Not Hansel. Han frakking Solo.

Otherwise, NKK, your post was awesome. I agree with your points, except that I feel if I use Google Wallet, Google will be able to track a lot more of my life than just my Google searches. I don't like giving up that much info.

Just my opinion, of course.

exactly!! Furthermore... look how long credit cards have been around. Yes I can use my credit/debit nearly everywhere now, but it still has not killed cash. There are many small vendors that can't afford the fee's associated with accepting credit card payments, and I don't blame them. This tech will never replace having your wallet, so you still will have to carry both.

I find it hillarious that so many consumers cant see the wool being pulled over their eyes. The consumer really isnt gaining anything from this, its just another method for them to charge for something to the merchant making small business harder.

I'm sure to you it's not only acceptable, but a bonus. :p

lol glad someone was paying attention when i said i'm a family man :p

anyway getting back on track before earlymon and steven come in and grab us by our ears. whats the going thought on possible facial recognition software? not many people seemed excited about that.

that might be cool to unlock your phone, have it scan your face.

Not that I'd be able to ever set it up. I can hear my wife now: "Why do you have your phone locked?"

Never going to happen.

Google should just play hard ball and say that if VZW doesn't let them have vanilla Nexus on their network, they will not allow any VZW to carry the latest Android versions.

+1. But that is the intended use of it. if i'm correct. someone leaked the galaxy nexus's system app list and one of them was called FaceLock.apk . so it might be a facial recognition lock or it could be something with facebook for all i know. but i can dream.

Edit: Annnnd linkage

Just tell her "it's not locked it just only lights up when I'm around." :D

I know were trying to make it to 9k posts and I'm trying to make it to 24k posts, but we're a bit afield here. Please keep it on or near topic. Don't make me stop this car!
