I don't like to think of it like that.

CM team just has adds a commentary to the rampant Android fanboyism is the world, they just stir up the pot so people have stuff to talk about.

I know. I think my calling them out as worthless lying weasels was more a reaction of having fallen for their trolling than anything else. They seem to be a fun bunch. Not exactly believable when they speak, but CM does great work.

Yes that phone is super thin. Wow. I didn't see too many animations requiring a lot of power. But the transitions where very fast and seemed to be flawless.

I'm not interested in the RAZR for lots of reasons, but I must admit I'm impressed with the thinness shown in the Engadget comparison photos.

I really have the feeling that we know very little about this phone now. That's why there are so many conflicting "confirmed" specs of this phone. Now, if this thing docks into a tablet, keyboard, and a TV, I will sell my kidney on the black market to have it. Although, I will assume that shaking the phone to charge it, while convenient, would gather a few stares and spark a ton of jokes. Has anyone else seen the MAD TV skit about the flashlights you shake to charge? It's all I can think about right now, lol.

This means Verizon won't ever allow an unlocked bootloader from anyone, basically, regardless of Moto's "promises".

Gives me an uneasy feeling about the Galnexusaurus. I suppose we will see tonight.

The "carrier permitting" thing has always seemed like Moto's way of deflecting the blame for their own decisions. If VZW were really so adamant about this, HTC, Samsung, and Sony would be in bigger trouble. Maybe Verizon prefers locked bootloaders, and that's why Moto gets favoured treatment, but a locked bootloader clearly isn't a firm requirement to get onto Verizon's network the way Moto would have us believe.

I just finished watching it! That phone is so freaking thin, it's unbelievable. And the animations and transitions were pretty fast. iPhone and Bionic sure are looking rather long in the tooth.

Agreed, but it gives us hope now that the super-thinness of the prime (from the pictures we've seen) is true. I remember about a hundred pages ago in this thread there was a lot of speculation that they couldn't fit a current LTE chip and a respectable battery in there and still have the phone be super-thin. So, if Motorola can do it... :D

Before weird cyanogenmod rumors were being spread around Lee Johnston had an interesting post on the ways ICS could help make the Nexus a very fast device, even if the specs stay with the rumors.

Its definitely worth a read if you are getting worried about the announcement tonight.

Thanks!

I've taken the liberty of quoting it:

Let's talk mobile phone specs for a minute shall we?

I see a lot of my friends and followers are already starting to think negatively about the rumored specs of the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone.
Well let me explain for a minute why the specs are more than enough for the task at hand.

Android 4.0 (or Ice Cream Sandwhich if you will) has 3 major software enhancements that will make a 1.2ghz dual core phone seem like it's a 3ghz phone running Gingerbread. Here's why:

1) Hardware Acceleration - this version of Android is the first Handset version that has the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) in use throughout the operating system. Previously all handset versions of Android had access to the GPU but only through calls to OpenGL in applications and games. Android 4.0 brings native Hardware Acceleration to all parts of the OS. This will make a HUGE difference.
Ever wonder why your iPhone loving friends have a super smooth OS even on a lowly single core cpu on an iPhone4? That's right, Hardware Acceeration has been in all of ios for a while now. You do NOT need a monster CPU when you have a GPU helping you out.

2) Dual Core Support - Previous handset versions of Android did not truly support dual cores. Android 4.0 will allow an application to run multiple threads split over the cores. This will make a big big difference in Application feel and performance.

3) Garbage Collection - One of the best features of Java can also be it's worst. Garbage Collection. For those of you that aren't programmers let me explain. Garbage Collection is when Java (which all Android apps are written in) frees up memory for you. On ios the programmer is responsible for freeing up used memory when it's no longer needed, Java does this for you. It sends in the Garbage Collectors. This is great but on older versions of Android you could tell when it was happening sometimes... Those freezes and pauses you see in apps sometimes for no apparent reason? Yepp that's garbage collection.
Android 4.0 will allow the Garbage Collector to run on a different core from your Application. Again this will make a big difference in performance.

So all in all these big big behind the scenes changes to Android 4.0 will make a huge difference int he feel of Android on your phone.

It will also slow down this constant need for faster and faster phones... I think the average person should be more than happy with a dual core Nexus phone.

But what do I know right? ;)

Tonight we will all be able to see what Google has been up to and what they have in store for us.

Seems promising! :)

Some real information probably leaked so they leaked a bunch of fake information to throw us off.

Anyone watch the video of the Razr on Engadget? Anyone notice the Apple fanboy states their Iphone was looking a little less sexy now? Is he going to get fired for saying that? I can't wait for what we hear tonight!

Actually Engadget has been much less Apple fanboyish since Josh Topolsky, Paul Miller, and Nilay Patel left to create the verge (which is another great site). Tim Stevens and the other Engadget guy covering the iphone 4s launch even admitted they were the only to bloggers there with android phones.

At least we know the Razr info:

qHD super amoled

1gb ram

4460 chipset

Custom LTE to fit the thin size (how much $ did they throw at that?)

Tough build

Cloud friendly Motocast

16gb, but micro sd and sim ports on side of device

Locked bootloader (bleh, but have seen no need for custom kernel or rom on the D3)

Webtop (bleh X2)

Now just need the Nexus real info to compare :) I wonder if Sammy have gone custom for LTE, or same chip as previous device?

I know the 4460 chipset has been said before, but is there a source you guys are getting your info from? I've always thought it was an overclocked 4430. I'm often wrong, and this probably isn't an exception, but can you provide a link?
