Can someone expand to me what the big deal is about have a good bench mark on this PHONE?

This device is a PHONE and apps that are used in the phone relatated area. This device is NOT a gameboy,etc...:p

That was the problem with Android devices. They think that the specs and feature list alone will make a phone great.

I am just glad Google is focusing on the user experience with ICS. I will finally have a device that will make the iPhone users genuinely jealous :)

Sadly this is looking more and more like a viable option for me as well. I say "sadly" because I have invested so much time and energy into the Nexus lol.

I guess the good thing about this wait is that I can sit back and re-evaluate the situation. Note is going to be much more desirable spec wise for me and I don't mind the wait. Don't particularly want to wait any longer but thats no excuse :)

Leaning towards the Note (Spec wise it's a no brainer)

Using the Dell Streak as a measuring stick, the Note is just a mini-tablet. Too big to use as a phone. I've noticed that 4.3" has become the mainstream ceiling for screen diagonal at WVGA aspect ratio. At this point, the only push has been 4.5" with a narrower bezel or 4.65" in a different aspect ratio, both cases not impacting phone width.

@ CK, is the Note confirmed in the US? For some reason I thought it was not going to be available here...At any rate, just caught up reading through quickly and only had one observation. Regarding Krait, or any other more advanced hardware, my concern with waiting would be that implementation of that tech doesn't mean VZ will even carry it. We've been behind in the quality and specs of phones over and over again, so there's no reason for me to believe that it would be any different in Q1 or Q2 2012. Sure, inevitably someone with better hardware will come to VZ, but I'm in the rooted group and quite frankly the unlocked bootloader / debloated phone with that amazing screen is why I want the Nexus. I believe there will be more devs working on this phone than any other for quite some time, much as it was for the OG. Here's to hoping PE, Bugless, UD, Chevy and all the others come running...

Good morning guys and gals,

So with NFC tech incorporated in the battery (this is an assumption based on NFC labeling on the battery) could this potentially mean that future phones could "add-on" NFC functionality by simply buying a NFC-enabled battery? If so, we could potentially see more NFC-capable phones in the near future than we would have otherwise--that is if people see it as useful/cool/iPhone-beating.

If it was going to be a Verizon exclusive or released on Verizon first somebody at the event would have broke that story by now. Don't you think?

Nope, an exclusive agreement would and should be announced by the company that has made and will pay for the exclusive agreement, that being Verizon, not by the company who sold the exclusive agreement...Samsung/Google.

I don't know anything right now except that we have 2 confirmed carriers and none of them are in the US.

And yet Samsung has stated the Nexus would be released in the US in November, that carrier has yet to announce it to the public, but we all know who that carrier will be....although some still struggle with the announcement not being made according to there own requirements.

Relax, there is time for this to happen...and it will...before Nov. 10th:D

I find myself in a strange mood today, as it's very rainy out and I'm coming off of yesterday's high. We had a great party in the IRC chat and I thoroughly enjoyed it!!! Thank you guys.

However, I'm sad that our source is leaving us, but I certainly understand that. Secondly, I'm asking myself if the hardware specs of this phone will last me 18 months. Can I hold out? Source says "new phones in the pipeline." I guess I need time to digest.

I'll be around all day. Stepping out for another cup of coffee to pick me up.

Steven

Any reason for leaving? Was he too exposed?

Is there any solid info on which device will get 32gb etc. ?
I think I will be happy with 32gb.

PS, I member my first hard drive of 20mb and I thought that was a lot.:D

i gotta say, the hardware specs on the GNex are nice, but not other-wordly. also, the phone itself is like CK said yesterday - kinda Fisher-Pricey, and sorta meh. but, in the end, i think the OS is gonna tip the scales for me. i just hope the device ends up having a nice sturdy feel to it.

and, the thought of VZW maybe "beefing it up" a little before release (as hinted by Panda) holds some added and unknown intrigue. anxiously awaiting VZW's announcement!

My question is if Samsung and Google had held the event in San Diego, if we would already know it was for sure a Verizon exclusive. I know its a what if, but interesting to think about none the less.

Because if people could remove it at will, then the bloatware wouldn't be as valuable to the companies sponsoring them. Why do you think that TiVo took out the "skip commercials" feature early on? Sponsors got pissed because people suddenly had the option to not see them there. So now we're forced to continue to view them, even if it's at double or triple speed. Sponsors want us to be forced to see them. Verizon is happy to oblige, for the right price.

My last comment. I understand the TiVo deal, you have to "go through" the commercials to get to the next part of the show. That's different than crap that is just sitting on your phone that might be a few out of 30, 40, 50 apps that you browse through.

All I know is that the bloatware and the pigheaded insistance behind it makes me want to pee in someone's Cheerios.

I'm with Han on this one. I'm jumping off the train at the Nexus station because:

(a) It's an awesome and (virtually) future-proof device.
(b) My OG Droid will NOT wait until next year to retire.
(c) Verizon may never allow this again. They want way too much control.

This may be the best shot ever at getting an unlocked, bloatware-free, top-of-the-line Nexus device on Big Red. My only hope is that so many people jump on Nexus and forsake RAZR that Verizon gets the message that we will put our money where we will, not where they want us to... and start allowing more super-awesome phones like this in the future.

But the assumption is Verizon would allow it to be unlocked and discounted with contract. Has that been mentioned by VZW? Seems VZW is doing everything they can to influence OEMs to lock the devices down due to repair cost concerns when people mess their devices up and unauthorized tethering.

Would people be interested also if it is only 16gb version? Seems respecfully a lot of assumptions on the model version and its firmware security with VZW.

A lot of thinking to do in these next couple days. I really like the Nexus. It's going to be a great phone. I find myself being impressed but unimpressed all at the same time.

Impressed with 4.0 and the phones capabilities/openess but VERY unimpressed with it's specs and aesthetics. 2 years is quite a long time and while 4.0 is the major draw here for me I know there is some better hardware/4.0 handsets right around the corner.

I'd essentially just be pulling the trigger because of ICS and thats some weak sauce.

I understand that there will always be something better right around the corner. Thats the nature of the game but for me purchasing a 2 year handset is something I don't take lightly. I'm going to sit back for a bit and see how I feel about everything. I'm luckily in no rush to buy, even though I REALLY want a new device.

The hype is over and now it's time to settle in and marinate :)

The only reason that the GNex will be a great phone is because it will be the only device to get software updates and fine tuned for the next 6 months.:)

yes, glbenchmark, and quadrant.

whats so hard to believe? the sgx540 is from 4 years ago. 2007. the resolution of this device has 2.4x the number of pixels thus it needs to work even harder. an overclock doesnt help it that much.

Get a PSP. Why do so many people complain about high-end gaming on a phone? It's bonkers. What game in the next year or two is going to even stress this GPU? Probably 1 maybe 2?

I dont know about you but id much rather play video games on a PSP Vita than a phone. That's just me. Call me crazy.

I think that we're focusing too much on specs and not enough on the experience. Of course it's what geeks do, but if the phone is smooth and does everything you want it to do, what improvement are you hoping with "better" specs.

Quoted. For. Truth.

Specs do not tell the whole story. They rarely tell half of the story. Properly optimized software can make average hardware perform admirably. Need proof? Look no further than vearly every Apple device released in recent memory. I do not really care for iOS, but I was the owner of an iPhone 4 for 8 months. The hardware wasn't bleeding edge, but the software coupled with it made it function and run better than any phone I've ever used. My 13 inch MacBook pro (Rest in Peace) performed better than WIndows PC's that had far and away better specs on paper. I have no interest in getting into a pissing contest with anyone over specs. Specs do not matter when the software isn't optimized to utilize it.

I commend Google for finally making an attempt to polish up the OS. From what I can tell, it looks pretty well executed. Looking forward to the new improvements, both visually and internally, that ICS will bring.

My thinking is that if it was going to be locked down and/or bloated, it would not be called a Nexus. The announcement last night mentioned a U.S. partner with LTE. The Samsung website and screen shots of the promos during the unveiling revealed the words Verizon Wireless. It has turned up as the "Galaxy Nexus" in Verizon's Cellebrite systems. If it was called the "Samsung Prime", I'd be worried. But everything indicates it will retain the Nexus name. Locking it down and bloating it would be equivalent to smearing V crap all over the iPhone. Nexus is Android's baby, just like iPhone is Apple's. It's just not happening.

. . . .

I'd essentially just be pulling the trigger because of ICS and thats some weak sauce.. . . . .

Throw in direct-from-Google updates and the best dev support on the planet, and that sauce gets a little stronger. ;)

I don't get it either. Playing Madden 12 or Modern Warfare on a 4" screen with the little players/soldiers about half an inch high doesn't appeal to me. :p

Couldn't agree more. The reason iPhones give such a great user experience is because the software is married to the hardware. They're literally made for each other. Specs suck in comparison to other phones (512MB RAM??), but it's smooth and silky. No lag, no freezes.

Ice Cream Sandwich and Galnexusaurus, too, were made for each other. It's like Romeo and Juliet, but without the blood at the end!

Well I just ready some bad news:

British online retailer Clove is the first to offer up SIM-free UK pricing for the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which was unveiled yesterday in Hong Kong. On its official blog, Clove says that it's "confirmed" the price at
