For all those that are still clinging to a release tomorrow:

It is not happening. I know it's hard to accept, but just relax and get comfortable with it. There is something seriously wrong going on with the release of this phone and it's not just that the 4G network went down, or that Verizon is pissed their date was leaked. No, there is something really preventing this phone from coming out, and we may never know what it is. At this point, I also have serious doubts about next week. No one knows what the hell is going on with this phone, except for a select group of people very high up at Verizon, so don't believe any rumor or leaked document you see/hear. Until Verizon says so, this phone DOES NOT EXIST. Verizon has until the end of the year, and I don't see any indication that they're in any rush to get this phone out the door. So I'd say, just assume it's coming out on the 31st, and if it comes before that, then so be it.

Also, there is NOTHING to prevent them from pushing it into next year. I don't care what their original press release says about "later this year". That is not a contract that is upheld by the law. That was a press release, and no more. This phone will come out when it comes out. Verizon doesn't care about you. I'm sorry to be such a downer.

Mornin' Debbie

Well, y'all have brought me out of lurkdom. For the past couple of months, I haven't read magazines or books at night, but I have been reading posts! I usually only have a chance to catch up at night so you can imagine how much I've been reading. I've stayed up too late way too many nights hoping to get some information. I definitely got a warm and fuzzy feeling last night after reading about y'all pitching in to get Steve a phone. How sweet!

Anyhow, I've been calling Verizon a few times a week and I always get the same response ... No release date but you can sign up on the mailing list and you'll be the first to know blah blah. This morning at 9:00 on the dot I called my local store and the girl said the date had been pushed back but she wouldn't say anymore. I asked her pushed back from when and she didn't know. She did say to check back after 1:00. I will definitely be calling back but I'm not holding breath that I'll get any info. My store is in a podunk town so I will be surprised if they know anything. I guess I should be happy they at least knew the phone exists.

Anyhow, I've enjoyed reading the past months. BTW, for the ones complaining about their current phone. I doubt anyone has one worse than mine. I have an LG ALLY that is so slooooooooooooowww and I swear since I decided to get the SGN it has been giving me even more problems.

With that name, you're obviously from the New Orleans area. Glad to see someone around my hood!

Side note: anyone hear anything about what today's meeting was about?

My wife and I still have an appointment to get our GNexes tomorrow at 9AM. We haven't gotten a call from our CSR yet to cancel, but I imagine it's coming sometime today. I'm afraid to even call and ask because I know what the answer will be. :(

Not to throw cold water on you, but I bet it doesn't come out tomorrow and I bet your CSR never calls to cancel. Call before you go to save yourself both a disappointment and wasted time.

Quoted for truth.

I think the most encouraging development has been the store shipments being received. That suggests to me that the phone is more likely to launch this year than next. But the fact that we literally do not have a single word from Verizon about this phone other than the press release is just crazy. I'm trying to theorize what might be going on. Maybe it's an ongoing spat with Google about things like Google Wallet. Maybe they're holding it back to try to boost abysmal RAZR sales.

No one knows anything at this point. But by far the most likely bet is no phone release tomorrow. (Although maybe a couple people here and there will get one if the stores don't ge the memo).

I called 611 on my way to work this morning to inquire about getting the 3G-to-4G $100 discount for the Midwest. It was granted to me no questions asked (I live in central IN). I mentioned that I planned on getting the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, "if it ever comes out" and the CSR laughed.

After processing my request, she voluntarily checked to see the status of the release date for the SGN, and put me on hold for a few minutes. She said that on yesterday, it was the 9th, but that another e-mail was sent out declaring the release date undefined.

I know a lot of rumors have been swirling about whether the SGN is going to be released tomorrow or not, but at least from my phone call, it doesn't sound like there is a release date yet #whatelseisnew.

But do take advantage of that discount. It is super easy to get! Just note the criteria listed in the first paragraph.

Cheers!!

It makes no sense to push this into next year. By then, there will be the push for newer, better phones. The Nexus will be outdated. People may not want it anymore. Again, that is lost revenue/profit. I also mentioned Christmas shopping the biggest sales season of the year. No one would miss out on that. Also if there is something dreadfully wrong with the phone, you share the information with your consumers. You do not keep them in the dark. I can understand if Google is pissed, because they are potentially losing revenue right now. Verizon needs to take Public Relations lessons from the late Steve Jobs. He kept us, the consumers and the shareholders in the loop, and that's part of the reason for Apple's success.

Here is what I think (for today). The meeting today was originally going to be about the GNex release, but with the delay, (and the requisite beating that Verizon is taking in the tech blog/press) they are going to be instituting a no tolerance policy for violating NDAs, or disseminating info prior to the corporate office specifically stating its ok. They are making examples of a few notorious leakers (P3 and PP being two). This would also explain why The Source has gone quiet, they are afraid to leak anything anymore. They took off any and all info of this phone from their site, to prevent us from even getting hints that something is happening. It will now all roll out the moment the press release is actually released. All to prevent any more bad press.

Can you give details on the 3G to 4G discount?

I got it. Eff all the rumor ville from humorville. I think this "delay" is directly related to the shit verizon is trying to pull on the google wallet.

Why? I believe this was a high selling point for google. And that they feel it is going to be big in the coming year(s) so for big red to potentially disable/block or whatever they're doing is not suiting well with google.

Isn't google looking into the idea that what vzw is doing is illegal? And supposedly in discussions with this as we speak? Logic tells me if i'm google , i'm not launching a damn thing until i settle this last minute surprise verizon is pulling.

Does this make sense? Or has there been an update on that dilemma that i may have missed

I wonder if VZW has ever heard of the Barbra Streisand effect?

They are getting dangerously close to triggering it :P

Yeah, except . . . I held it in my hand yesterday at my local Verizon corporate store. I had NO issues other than 4G being upgraded on towers nationwide and it was not working on ANY phone. Nothing is "seriously" wrong with the phone.

When and if tomorrow comes with no release you can rest assured it will be out by Tuesday. Stock is in the back rooms. Relax. Don't worry, be happy. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case.
I don't think Verizon realizes that it's really hard to get even more bad press at this point

Unfortunately I think there's a lot of truth in what you're saying. It reminds me of the conversation I had with a salesguy at a new VZW store (non-corporate) that opened up near me.

He mentioned he had spoken to a friend of his that works at Google and he told him it's delayed until January. Frankly I don't think there's any reason to put less credibility in that rumor than any of the other 1,000s we've read here.
