***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Yes Sprint Nexus S 4G is the only phone that will do it, but it is not because they have an exclusive partnership, but because they are the only carrier who has an agreement with Google to allow it. Google has stated publically that Wallet is currently only available in the US. That is why the unlocked phones don't have access to it. They also don't have agreements with AT&T and Verizon, which is why the Nexus S on AT&T and the GNex do not currently have it either. If that changes, those phones will get it. There are negotiations ongoing about it. Another thing about it, from what I have read, Google has not released the API to have access to the secure element. So even if Verizon wanted to use Isis on the phone, they wouldn't be able to without Google's help. I wouldn't be surprised if Google is holding it back, unless Verizon agrees to allow Wallet, or pay them out of the Isis revenues. So there is that possibility too.

Also in the friendliest terms, I request you don't modify a quote of mine to prove your point. I feel it is not a fair thing to do in an exchange of ideas. Thanks.

Your points hold no merit though. It's not available in all of the US. It's only available on Sprint in the US. Those are two HUGE differences. Like I said, and you seem to keep ignoring, you can buy an unlocked, United States model Nexus S, and Google Wallet won't be on it, nor will you be able to find or use Google Wallet without hacking, even though the GSM Nexus S has an NFC chip and has no problem with running the application. And you ask how is it a Sprint exclusive? Well let me respond to your question with another question, why would Google block its own application on its own phone if it wasn't? No carrier in the US has ANY control over the unlocked GSM Nexus S. The bottom line is, Google has some sort of agreement with Sprint because they are holding back functionality themselves on their own device.

Everybody, including yourself, hopped on the Verizon bashing bandwagon to explain why "they" are holding back Google Wallet and why "they" are delaying the phone because of it. I'm simply pointing out the flaws in this line of thinking. Verizon isn't blocking anything. Either Google, or Sprint, or an already previously written agreement between the two, is. All of that nonsense about Verizon violating spectrum rules by blocking something is just that, nonsense. And that was my original point, that everyone who is stating that it is a "100 percent fact, no doubt" (IE, you) that Google Wallet is the hold up is completely wrong, and is spreading false information to others here in the process. Verizon's statement that they are negotiating simply means that they WANT Google Wallet support and are in talks with Google to provide it down the road, maybe.

I'll state this all one more time in the simplest possible terms. Verizon isn't blocking Google Wallet. They are not "stripping" ICS of any functionality since it is not coded into ICS. Google Wallet is not a part of the AOSP. As of this moment, Google Wallet is a Sprint-only function. Verizon isn't violating spectrum rules by not including it, and as such, it is not the cause of the delay. Period.

Ok I've been reading this thread and pretended to know what you all are talking about, but I'm not sure I follow anymore:

What do you all consider to be the difference between a "corporate" store, "retail" store, and "third-party" store. I think I get the "third-party" concept, but not sure about the other two. I want to know which one I generally go to haha.

Well my new hope based on the current set of rumors is for a Monday announcement and pre-order with the release being Thursday.

I want to order online anyway because I hate dealing with corporate store sales people and I want to avoid the activation fee. Hopefully pre-orders will ship early and people can get them as early as Wednesday or on Thursday at least.

Thank you very much. I will certainly look into that film and I WILL need a tissue as I am the most sensitive, BIGGEST BABY on the planet. My wife jokes that I am more of a woman than she is at times. I'm not certain why I am the way I am...could be genetic, could be I was essentially raised by my sisters after my mom passed when I was seven and dad had to work like a slave...for crying out loud I even do a "typically women's job" as a first grade teacher, haha. I can tell you this and I'm not afraid to say it and receive the "not manly" backlash, but I've learned the value of life, the sorrow of loss and treasure EVERY SECOND with my daughter and already tear up thinking of her being any older than she is. Thank you all for your kind words and we'll have a blast tonight!

Sorry to be so off topic.
You and I are similar. You have my (cyber) respect. ;)

Ok I called five radio shacks today and a non corporate store. Of the three that had stock, two radio shacks said they could sell them on sunday the 11th! The other said call back in an hour. Wtf!? Im gonna freak out if I can get one on sunday!! Why does it seem like verizon is saying 15th and radio shack and some best buys are saying sunday?

OK So I have only been following this thread since this morning, but believe me when I say I spent all day catching up.

I'm not already a VZW customer. My husband is, but he's on a dumbphone, and I'm on Virgin Mobile. I'd been toying around with the idea of switching to TMO now that they have this $30 deal for prepaid, but once I heard about Verizon's double data promotion, I figured only ~$10 more for 4GB on LTE was definitely worth it. (my samsung intercept was pulling 0.31 Mbps on 3G when I checked it this morning...)

But now as the Nexus date keeps getting pushed back again and again, it looks like I might be pushed back out of the realm of "definitely worth it."

Basically, I'm keeping calm. I don't need the phone today, though that would have been nice. If it comes out before the double data promotion ends, then I will become part of the Verizon family. If not, I'll buy the HSPA+ model (or maybe the SGSII) to use on TMO, and I'll still be off contract which will be nice. And I'll continue trying to convince my husband that it's dumb he pays so much more when I get the same amount of minutes he does + unlimited data + unlimited texts.

So basically it's in Verizon's court. If I can get the Galaxy Nexus with double data (or unlimited would be better!) then I will, and my husband will renew his contract as well. Otherwise I won't be coming to Verizon at all.

Weren't activation fees debunked a few days ago?

I'm going to enjoy me weekend with the family and try to not obsess over this awesome phone. I have faith that it will be here Thursday if not before.

For some reason after owning it for just a 1/2 hour...I have more of a peace about it, I have held it I know it's real it's coming in a few days. Let's get crazy excited about it Monday as there will be more substantial leaks next week.

16 days until Christmas...:D

Please check private messages, thanks! :)

Afternoon! Busy, busy, busy....
So nothing really new other than a new date or three....
With all the grumbling, confusion around the Gn, aren't we missing something here. The Droid 4 (and possibly the white RazR were supposed to have launched yesterday too right?....what happened to those??

For all the people who say they are getting GN's activated, how is it possible? I just got off the phone with a radioshack who says they have them in stock but even if he tried to sell me one all of the ESN's are blocked. If you went through corporate they would easily deny activation as well- they would spot the ESN like bacon on a cake.

Eh. In all seriousness, I'm torn between getting this or the Prime. The first one to drop gets my money. The other one will just have to wait.

i planned on getting both but i can see why you could only get one, these things are getting too 'spensive.

you'll get your nexus first though ;)

I guarantee

Nice, I just bought myself a 91Z TT w/ 76k miles.

My buddy called me this morning and said he could sell me one, but if he got caught, they'd be fined by VZW $700 per phone. It's not worth it, I'll just hold off now.

Thats awesome man. Congrats, enjoy the hell out of it.

I just preordered the Prime last night, it popped up on Newegg so i did it before it went away again.
Still plan on getting the GNEX though. [/QUOTE]
Argh! I've been looking everywhere to see if I can pre-order it and be done with this whole fiasco.
Argh!!

Put some dough away. You're a lawyer, you should be good!

That's what everyone says. But you must also realize I have a wife and also expensive vacation tastes. Government lawyers don't make as much as everyone thinks they do.

I thought about becoming a defense attorney for the extra dough, but I can't stomach the thought of having to defend slime balls 24/7.

So does anyone think that we have a shot at a weekend release? I know it's a pipe dream but I'm just hoping.

I'm returning my Bionic tonight because it sucks, constantly dropping 4G and lagging.

Not telling you to not return it but you do know about the huge update coming out for it, don't ya? it's in "soak test" right now. you guys should have end of next week. I guess it's massive and fixes a bunch of stuff.

but there isn't a device on the planet i wouldn't trade for my G-nex. So don't let me spoil it for you. Just saying, thats all.....

They won't announce it until the last possible second. Esp at this time of year when every day counts for holiday sales. They can't afford to have an announcement then two days go by with no sales b/c ppl are holding out.

I've been thinking, why doesn't Google form it's own carrier network. They have software, so the programming of phones shouldn't be an issue. They bought Motorola, so they have the manufacturing issue sorted out with that. Then we won't have to worry about waiting for people like Verizon or AT&T. Updates would be directly through Google, and devices would be sold directly from Google. They have the capital, the technology and the other means to do it. So why not?

Yes I know about the update but I have my heart set on the G-Nex now. It's no big deal, I'm just a pretty impatient person that's all. I can deal with an old phone for a while longer.

I think we need more people to pay for a Premium membership if we're going to be able to support every one and all these posts. I feel like we have more and more lurkers coming out of hiding every day. And the number of posts on this thread is mind boggling, over 74k and counting! UNBELIEVABLE! Everyone needs to sit back and give themselves a round of applause.

.... and then start pinging on Verizon again to see if we can't get some more information out of them. :)

Well that's a new one...so you're saying the conspiracy theory is that Rob and Phases are responsible for the delays so they can drum up more business for Phandroid and AF? :D

(Obviously I'm just kidding...well hopefully it's obvious).

People have speculated its in the works. No confirmation from Google though that I'm aware of.

Well guys and gals, it is officially time for me to get off the Galaxy Nexus train. This is my stop. This week was my cut-off. A while ago, when we were all told the end of November, I told myself something. I told myself if it wasn't out by this week in December I would wait a few more weeks for CES instead and go from there. I've come to terms with it and accept my decision. :(

Launching a phone almost 2 months after announcing it is ridiculous and unacceptable to me. In these times, you have to get your product out very quickly before you get passed up by your competition (see Bionic launch). Razr announced 10-18 and on-sale 11-11. Rezound announced 11-3 and on-sale 11-14. This is how it should be done. Heck, the Razr might be in two colors by the time the Nexus launches. I guess having Samsung, Google, and Verizon all in the same room is just too many people in the kitchen and too many hands on the pie.

As I hang around in this forum and watch this thing unfold, maybe all your excitement once you all get your hands on one will change my mind.

Go to nowinstock.com and sign up for their e-mail alerts. I would only use websites like newegg and amazon because they have best return policies. Bestbuy is only 14 days. I don't trust the other guys.

Good man but aren't your family/gadget needs more important than slime balls. Just pick the good cases!

I thanked your post but I wanted to make extra note of this. I have heard mention of people saying an update need to come out to allow Google Wallet on the phone and that is simply not true.

The Google Wallet app is just like any other app. If you cannot download it from the market (see it at all from the Market app) then obviously the developer didn't check your device in the "Compatible Devices column" and that is probably what Google, the dev on the app, did. By far not a reason to delay the phone.

Personally who really cares, about swiping their phone to pay anyway. Is it that much of a hassle to swipe your card?
