Actually you'd be surprised at how many dumb phones come this way now..
Yes, and I am not surprised by it. I had read sometime last year that a lot of cell providers and phone manufacturers got together and agreed on starting to use MicroUSB as the standard charging port.
If you think about it, it makes sense. Soon nearly everyone would have a MicroUSB charger, and they would no longer have to include one with every phone. It would save them possibly $5 per phone, maybe more. Of course they wouldn't lower the cost of the phone, and would get people to pay $20-$30 for a new charger once theirs wears out.
Not all manufacturers agreed to it though, one that did not agree was Apple - but why would they. They've always done things their own way. Plus how could they then sell their high priced proprietary accessories.
