It may not be the news you were hoping for, but it is confirmation that there is no 720p recording...yet ;)

I would look for this to be added in a near-term post-launch update.

Furthermore, for those of us in the root/ROM community, i would look for this to be enabled with the first batch of custom ROMs.

Maybe those are just the resolutions for the front facing camera? j/k j/k :D:D

Anon-- I'm just the resident court Jester wannabe - - a lurker who only chimes in on irrelevant items - - But I definitely want to thank you.

If necessary? When I was in College, I was a bouncer, at 6'5 and 300lbs, it wasn't difficult to understand.

I got your back, baby. You don't worry about a thing.

You've been nothing but absolutely diligent in your efforts to get us real, valuable data, and did so with the utmost regard for verification and keeping your sources secure/safe. Anyone who's got a problem with you, has a problem with all of us non-flaming trolls.

@Wood: EXACTLY!

@Kappy: Yeah, no doubt.

hey real quick why would people buy the phone thru verizon if there is an instant rebate in best buy? ?

The reason I would get it through VZW is because I can put up to $250 on my account and pay for it later, which it was my understanding that I can't do at BB. I don't have any ca$h or a credit card I can put a purchase on for another 5 or 6 weeks. :(

Besides, you can simply take an old, cheap pair of buds and cut all but about a foot off and use it for the same thing (and already 3.5mm). Assuming there is a speaker function option when plugged in, of course.

Many phones, radios, etc. will cut sound to the speakers when something is plugged into the 2.5/3.5mm jack, completing the circuit, so cutting up a pair of headphones to use only as an antenna may not work, but perhaps that remains to be seen with the Incredible until it comes out.

I still don't quite understand how NE2 works.... I've heard its based on the monthly plan cost, but then someone else on here said it wasn't. I've been with Verizon for 10+ years and am on a $39.99 individual plan currently and have been told I get $50 for NE2. Should I be getting $100?

Currently, $50 is the most you can get on NE2 if you became part of that program less than a year to year 1/2 ago, whenever it was they changed it. If you have a very low monthly plan, then it may be even less than $50.

Good question.

I am traveling to the U.S. Virgin Islands in a month and want to know if i am going to get whored with roaming charges.

Has anyone had experience travelling there with verizon?

I know that when I was in Costa Rica last summer on my Bberry Storm, I think my best bet was to use data. If memory serves, I called VZW ahead of time and turned on international data, which was for a fee...(20/mo? 30/mo? don't recall...). I also asked the agent on the phone if he could turn off the feature automatically, and he set some sort of personal or system reminder to take international data OFF my plan, and they only prorated the usage of unlimited data for the time I was gone. Really cool, and much cheaper.

Granted Costa Rica is NOT USVI, and their infrastructure might be different, but calls were something like 3/minute, and data would have raped me so usage without the international setup. I was really please, and just emailed everyone instead of texting. :)

Hope this is helpful.

I'm sure I'll still use the built in radio from time to time, but another alternative is to simply visit:

The Mobile Stream Center

...no antenna necessary.

yes ...oooh found what I'm looking for ...something like this
antenna01.jpg

FM Antenna - Listen to u'r Phone Radio without Earphones <- Nokia FM Arial antenna ....my friend works for Nokia so I'm asking him right now if he has an extra one for me ;) or if it will even be compatible - looks like 2.5mm jack

Neat, but that doesn't guarantee it'll work on the Inc. You'll also need software support for it. Some devices automatically route sound through the headphone port if it detects something is plugged in there, and they may not offer a way to override that setting.

Quoting myself is this like talking to myself?

Just read this as well:
"By extending your contract, you may qualify for a discounted price, depending on when you last purchased a new phone at a discounted price, and your contract term.
- Customers on a one-year contract may upgrade at a discounted price after 10 months.
- Customers on a two-year contract may upgrade at a discounted price after just 20 months.
Plus, if you're currently enrolled in our New Every Two program*, you will be eligible for an additional discount with a two-year contract extension."

Do we know what this Additional Discount is? I assume this is cause the NE2 program changed but they want to me signup for 2 more years, when actually I think 1yr might be a better idea at this point because of LTE phones coming.

It's been years since I've gotten NE2 (because I get a yearly upgrade), but if you don't mind forfeiting your extra $50 (or whatever you get) off, I'm willing to bet they'd approve you for early upgrade so you can get 2-year pricing.

hmmmmmm $50 is not painfull paying full retail is very painful.

No Offense meant, but I was on the chat channel for a while last night and you can't get a word in or follow a conversation on there. There was way too many people posting that made it almost impossible to follow one thought.

I'm sure it was just me though! :D

This has been my experience as well. If you are upgrading the primary line, they will definitely give you an "early upgrade". You just lose the additional NE2 discount, but you will get the 2-yr discounted contract price. Like nunyabizness, I am never patient enough to wait for my $100 NE2 discount....

Other stuff like 720p video capture :D

Doubtful, given that the release packet shows this:

vidl.png

These are standard RCA plugs. You will be getting no high-def goodness out of these - at least not to whatever display you are connecting to. You could potentially record video at 720p and have it restricted to the phone, but given that the phone has TV out functionality, this seems unlikely. I know people have said that we might get 720p recording with a firmware upgrade, and they may be right. BUT if we want to send 720p video to an external display, it will not be by firmware update only. VZW will also have to release a hardware upgrade - that is, a cable with one end being a 3.5mm headphone jack and one end being either composite video or HDMI (the latter of these two options seems particularly unlikely).

For now, the cables shown above have us sitting on 480, people. And unless I missed it, these were the only cables capable of AV transmission.

Be happy we have TV Out. That fact alone automatically makes the Incredible superior to 99% of devices out there.:D

no offense taken.. it's calmed down since last night. :) come back!

Would the tv out work without the cables via bluetooth if your tv had bluetooth built in? I don't even know if TVs have that yet. Just a thought.

Beware, I posted this earlier, but it's worth posting again. I received this reply from a Verizon CSR:

"Please keep in mind, that the intent of the New Every Two Program was to provide tenured customers with additional credit toward the promotional prices when cell phone prices were higher than they are today. Since the average cost of cell phones are lower today than they were three to ten years ago, the program is subject to be phased out since we are providing more rebates and now offer free phones per online promotions on select phones."

If you're going to go with the 2 year contract just to get the NE2 discount, know that it might be phased out before too long.

Yeah, if the phone could at some point record 720p, you'd have to then copy that video to a PC or something that could then output at that res.
It'll still be interesting to see if someone can do a rom or firmware update that will allow it. :)
