***Official "I will have my Droid X in my hands at such and such date" thread***

So now I'm suspicious that it's a step down from the Incredible.
No flash
No text reflow in the browser (I hate that about the iphone)
What's wrong with the copy/paste? I missed that.
Does it smart dial from the dialer, like search by name?
Encrypted boot loader.
Broken BT? Maybe just with your device or vehicle.
I wonder what other cool stuff is missing vs the Incredible. I don't mean wallpapers and crap but real functionality.

I skimmed thru this thread as I've been away for a few days, but when did we find out that the bootloader was locked?

Have you tried the phone outside on a sunny day; if so is it easy to use or does the screen completely wash out?

I.,e if you went to the park on a bright sunny day could you comfortably read web pages or gps ?

This review suggest the device is almost unusable in bright light but I thought other reviews said it was ok.

...

Can I ask you how you think the Droid X's screen's brightness and clarity will compare to the Galaxy S' Super AMOLED? I know it's hard to say without having a Galaxy S in your hand but based off what Galaxy S videos you have seen on youtube.....and if you could let us know how much brighter if any is it than the Incredible's regular AMOLED screen.

Thanks!

Hello everyone - a future Android user newb here. I have preordered the X but now I'm planning on accessories to get.

I know I want the car mount but does anyone know if that car mount will come with a car charger? If it does not, then would car chargers for the Droid 1 be compatible with the X? It would be nice to buy one of those cheaper Droid 1 car chargers to use with the X's Car mount..... unless of course the car mount already comes with one. Airmaxx23, perhaps you already know this?

Thanks everyone - I'll be checking this site very often with my new droid!

The droid and droid x both use the same charger and as far as I know the car mounts do not come with a charger.

is this even a serious statement, have you not read any of the other posts, seriously, this is only a step up. i am not listing the improvements again...

This is a concern for me; I suspect the review is incorrect because I tried an Evo for a weekend (friends) and had no trouble outside; but then again my current (non data) cell phone I cannot read the screen in bright sun light which is very annoying.

This might help somewhat:
AppleInsider | Apple's iPhone 4 Retina Display places first in lab tests

The test results, published by PJ Jacobowitz of PC Mag, compared Apple's iPhone 4 with the Motorola Droid X, HTC Droid Incredible and HTC EVO...

I just got to work and went outside in the bright sun to try it with the sun in front of me and then behind me. With the brightness turned up it looks pretty good, definitely not unusable at all.

What phone can you comfortably read on in direct sunlight? Heck I can't comfortably read the web on a phone in a dark room.:o

I did install the test just now. i never ran it on my Dinc so i really dont have anything to compare to but i will say the response seems spot on, i cant imagine it being any faster. there was no unnecessary delay or trailing of the blue dot. when i got the blue and red dot close they never crossed signals or screwed up like the N1 did at times. very happy with the resutls

again, i personally am very picky when it comes to phones. i almost returned the N1 after coming from the iphone because it did not orig meet my expectations. This phone FAR EXCEEDS my expectations coming from the Dinc. everyone i have shown it to has been thuroughly impressed, except my wife who does not like the design. the screen clarity is the most commented aspect, along with the size, which may not be for everyone, it is BIG. You will not be disappointed

I'm very happy to hear these results, thanks for doing that test! I think that literally the only way that this phone could disappoint me (and possibly make me consider a different phone) is if the bootloader is indeed encrypted.

I agree that an encrypted bootloader would suck, and I know that moto has "said" that they will lock up newer phones. I'm just asking who confirmed that the bootloader was encrypted on the X?

I really really really want to know if it is encrypted too. This is a pretty huge deal to a lot of people. We need our custom ROM fix!

Thanks! So if I'm walking around I can use the gps to find the right directions :)

(don't laugh; I live in boston which is pedestrian heaven; my daily range is over 5 miles; and making a wrong turn can be very costly with regards to time and distance when on foot and tired)

I just got to work and went outside in the bright sun to try it with the sun in front of me and then behind me. With the brightness turned up it looks pretty good, definitely not unusable at all.

Sorry if I missed it, but have you tested the HDMI? Can you confirm it will not play AVI via HDMI and only content created on the device itself? And my AVI I really mean a DIVX movie.

Thanks for the confirmation. I went to my neighborhood BB west of Boston and saw the car mount for the Droid 1 and it does come with a charger... hopefully it is the same with the X!

Hmm...my wife's Motorola car mount did not come with a charger for her Droid.

Just going down MY list of items. Primarily bigger screen and better battery. I didn't have signal issues. I didn't have speed issues. I didn't have readability issues outside. I did have durability issues (not mentioned). I'm hoping the X will be built sturdier than the Inc. so it will last more than a month before overheating or breaking from the first low fall. This is our experience buying a few of the Incs.

Don't get me wrong. I appreciate your review and anything better is a bonus. It's just not fun to trade one good thing for another. It's better to have both.

This must be the copy/paste issue:
so you are saying you can select text in the browser just by holding down on the screen, because that sure does not work for me in the browser. i can do it in texts and emails but not in the browser

Not a biggie, but no copy paste at all would be a biggie.
