Official MetroPCS BYOD discussion thread

I'd much rather be supporting t mobile and spending my money there instead of att so hopefully by the end of the year they will pick up that 600 band for indoors and also spread out the lte some more.

What's new in these woods?

The auction isn't until next summer, but the war has already begun. I really hope Sprint and T-Mobile come out big winners in this auction because they need this spectrum. AT&T and Verizon only want it to prevent Sprint and T-Mobile from having it. :banghead:

So is this the only option for improving indoor coverage?

T mobile has made some great progress and I firmly believe they lookout for their customers more so than others. But the Achilles heel is indoor coverage. Speaking as a whole in general and not just personally. Some can make it work but some steer away because of it. I really wanna see them fix that and become an even bigger contender.

It's either that or dramatically increase tower density. Building penetration is much better with lower frequencies, that's just simply a fact. If I recall correctly, I believe the 600MHz spectrum is part of the UHF television spectrum that would pick up channels 21-51 if you used a UHF compatible set of TV antennas. So this is quite a premium piece of spectrum which is why it's so valued.

Getting used to the S3 but I miss the nexus. Aosp S3 ain't bad though.

Att so far is good. I don't have to run outside when the phone rings so that's a plus. Lol.

Good deal I think the same way I also support the tmobile/metro deal, know they are working on making things better that's for sure. Looking forward to the note 3 I won't buy it but I'm curious on what it will bring :)

So I can buy a gsm galaxy s4 and it will work with Metro pcs here, I know it will work in Europe where they are gsm. Iam hovering at the computer ready to buy. I know the dealers here in Clermont have the galaxy s4, but I was under the impression it was only cdma. Am I being a bit thick here?

Sprint doesn't need it as they have 800 already, just rather they have it than the other 2

True, T-Mobile needs it desperately though.

Well, I really hope they get it. They've been full steam ahead for the past year or so, so if they keep the same mentality and understand what fixing their Achilles heel will do, then they'll get it at all costs.

Either way I can't complain. With all the pre paid options and various prices, there's something to suit everyone's needs all the while saving a hell of a lot of money. But it's nice knowing improvements can be made across the board.

I hope TMobile gets it. The others don't need it. I just hope Dish doesn't swoop in and get it. They've been going after spectrum like crazy and just sitting on it.

Dish isn't looking to take all the costs on building the network the type of network with the type of spectrum it would be very expensive... The costs would be higher than the one with the 2400MHz spectrum in the chart below for various reasons. That's why they're looking to combine with a company with already existing towers.

I wouldn't mind it at all if they kept Legere (current tmo CEO) in charge

So Legere + Dish & Tmo capital + Dish & Tmo spectrum = Wireless Heaven

If I were to purchase Nexus 4 from Google Play Store and BYOD to MPCS where would I go for Root and ROMs?

The nexus 4 section here is pathetic. Not as bad as the S3 747 section though.

Xda is gonna be your best option. For all things root, skip softs toolkit can't be beat. For roms, aosp roms are basically all the same. It just depends on the little extra features you prefer. So instead of wasting time trying out roms that are basically all the same, find one that has the extra features you like and roll with it. And then try out various kernels and see which one offers up the best battery life and performance. I always used Francos. Great kernels and an amazing app to go with them.

Hope this helps. Feel free to pm me if you have any further questions about your N4. :)

Actually I was using the Nexus 4 as an example of what to do if I went the BYOD route. Another question is:
Would I be able to tell the difference with a phone with HSPA+/Lte

Depends on what you're doing. Download speeds between HSPA+42 and LTE are very comparable, so you probably won't notice much there. The real differences are in upload speeds, latency, and battery life.

As for the Nexus 4 section, it's not very developer active, but we do have a couple of smarter people who help out and it's certainly more alive than a lot of sections. But I have a feeling that once the Nexus 5 comes out, a lot are going to to jump ship.

Since the note is finally come out in possibly october and they say it has these new bands etc...is it safe to just get it for tmobile for the byod plan? Will everything work correctly as it should..like wifi calling etc..? And all of the antennas work? G,2G,hspa+,lte?

I realize this is a bit late but yes the S4 is GSM Not CDMA, at least the metro/tmo/att versions are.

I am not familiar with tmo lte coverage in your city but as long as you have strong signal hspa + is faster then metro lte.

As long as it can get att lte then I'm all in. Now that I've tasted it, my t mobile days are long gone.

If I bought one from AT&T (only seller in my city) can I have it unlocked and turned on through my Metro PCS account/number? Thanks.
